  1. Is it better (from a judging perspective) for a performer to run 'em over or move out of the way (potentially moving out of the drill form)?
  2. Maybe DCI should just kick BD out. The irony would be so rich that Stravinsky himself would be grinning ear to ear.
  3. Does anyone have any good tips for parking locations at Allentown? Last year I was left with little choice but to park on the street in a (ahem) not-so-great section of town. I realize there aren't many choices, but if anyone has any sweet spots their willing to share, I would be most grateful. Thank you.
  4. That's what I'm betting based on my views on FN.
  5. Right, but I thought BD also went on Friday (i.e. BD v. Cadets at the top).
  6. I'm going to DCI East on Friday, but not Saturday. I could have sworn that, earlier this season, Blue Devils were slated to perform on Friday night. But the DCI East page indicates that BD will be on Saturday night. Anyone know what's going on here? I was really looking forward to seeing BD live this year. Thanks.
  7. Dumb question, as I have never seen SCV live: what is the Vanguard yell?
  8. Nope. But your show (and others your year) is what got me into drum corps.
  9. So, I'm sorry to be a stick in the mud, but I have a problem. I don't love any of this year's shows. I've watched what's available on the Fan Network and, frankly, I'm disappointed. Is there something wrong with me or something wrong with DCI? The best show of the bunch is Phantom, but even that feels . . . different. With the exception of SCV, it seems like everyone is taking a turn toward Weird Town, where BD Is the mayor. This is a town where everyone must have obtrusive props and electronics of you're penalized. This is not to say the members aren't putting forth a great effort and executing well, but it's more a reflection of the designers and the "adults in the room." What in the world is happening? The music selection/arrangement is perhaps the biggest disappointment for me. Sure, there are some great moments, but the overall entertainment value is suffering. I feel like I"m hearing and watching a modern dance ensemble rather than drum corps. I really, really help this is just a passing fad because, if not, I don't know how much longer I can stick around. Please help. /rant over.
  10. Same problem here. I'm guessing it's on a time delay to coincide with when all the DCI @ the Cinema shows end.
  11. Agreed. Maybe it was just a bad performance, but nothing Hopkins said during his speech came true. The drill for Medea better be insanely good or they'll be left empty-handed come finals.
  12. How is the music? I hope they do a much better job than Boston in 2011.
  13. Cool, thanks. Glassmen should have done this last year for their closer.
  14. Today could be the day, my friend. Mine is scheduled to arrive today. It looks like we're in similar geographic areas, so I wouldn't be surprised if yours showed up today or tomorrow. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you!
  15. Ah, but that's not how they label it. DCI labels it "World Championships" or some such. This little tricky move is how they cover themselves. For instance, take last year's Phantom show, "Juliet." At the finals performance, Juliet takes the sword and puts it through her chest. But if you're watching the standard multi-cam shot, she simply hangs the sword over her throat, suggesting that she's about to commit suicide. But if you switch to the high-cam shot, you'll see that she does actually "kill herself" (you'll also get a better idea of the long, thunderous ovation the fans gave Phantom). Why did DCI do this? I suspect the close-up shot of Juliet "killing" herself is a bit odd/corny, as you would clearly see her shoving the sword in between her arm and chest. So they spliced in the semi-finals shot, which looks better, albeit not as dramatic.
  16. I haven't yet received the DVD, but from the Fan Network videos, the most glaring edits I found are: --Blue Devils (the "Heeeyyyaaayyyayyy...everybody!" chant at the very beginning of their show and near the end is muted) --Cadets (a few seconds of voiceover before Jingle Bells and, separately, the large chunk of voiceover before the final push (beginning with Angels We Have Heard on High)) From the CD product info page, it looks like only the Cadets' edits are included.
  17. Based on the corps listed in your signature, I think you'll get them this week if not early next week. There was a small snafu with my order, but from what I heard from customer service, they're really pushing out the pre-orders.
  18. Yes, but that involves a different copyright (i.e. synch). Based on what's listed on the audio info page, I suspect that BD will not be muted on the CD.
  19. Jealous. I don't know what they're waiting for ....
  20. The cd info page only mentions the audio edits for the Cadets, no BD. I would assume the APD have the same edits, since its essentially the same recording in a different format.
  21. About a week or so those who pre-ordered DCI's audio or video products of the World Championships received an e-mail from DCI informing us that they expected the products to ship the week of November 12. Well, it's the week of November 12, and I'm impatient. Has anyone received notice that their products have shipped? I'm especially anxious because I have a multi-hour drive on Saturday and would love to blast the CDs.
  22. Hey all.... I'm looking for a video on YouTube that was of a corps in the tunnel after their finals performance. I once saw it on YouTube but now can't find it. I believe it was either Phantom or Cadets, but I just can't remember. And, if I remember correctly, I think it was produced by the corps itself as marketing for either auditioning purposes or the corps' tour DVD. I could be wrong on both accounts, but that's what I remember. Is anyone able to help me find this? Thanks a lot!
