  1. I was just checking out the pics. and saw that the Cabs guard had changed their uniforms. The psychedelic (ninja) uniforms they started the season with have been changed, for uniforms that totally blend in with the rest of the corps. They don't pop/ stand out, like the other unis. I'm not saying this is good or bad. I just hadn't figured out what the concept was behind the original uniforms. I would imagine the kids are probably happy to have their mouths uncovered. That couldn't have been comfortable.
  2. I really don't know how many miles exactly. I travel from Kent Island, Maryland in the Chesapeake Bay, to Totowa N.J. for rehearsals. It takes 5 hours. I could take an alternate route which only takes 3 and a half hours, but my car pool crew counts on me. It's cheaper for me in the long run.
  3. Still waiting patiently. lol Keeping busy in the mean time with the Cabs. alumni and the Rebels alumni. I've beaten the memorization problem to. I learned Cabs book in less than a month.
  4. Well, of course I meant crowd. Al tho, Scout Houses Queen Mother may have been in attendance. LOL Isn't she a hoot? I missed seeing her this year at G.A.S.. I look forward to seeing her at G.A.S., in Gettysburg next year.
  5. Lets also keep our fingers crossed for good weather. LOL Yea, I know, shut up Cindy! You're gonna jinks it. Well one rained out show, this season, was enough for me. I'm Jonesing to get out on the the field and perform.
  6. We were all extremely disappointed not to be able to perform for the crowd this past weekend. Me especially. It was to be my first field performance doing drill and playing my bari. It also came to our attention that during our warm up, we could be heard LOUD AND CLEAR down on the field, while Sac. was performing. We were all dismayed and upset, at hearing this news, of our interrupting their performance. In our defense, you could NOT hear one sound from the stadium. Absolutely nothing! Not one note from a horn or tap of a drum. Nada, Zip. I would like to extend my own apologies to Blessed Sacrament. I'm sure the corps feels as I do. Cabs. Alumni spent the day on the drill practice field in Totowa,N.J., and had a hairy time getting to the stadium for the show. That was some rain storm! Traffic stopped on the highway, due to the torrential downpour. The ride home was a bit hairy as well. Driving 35 m.p.h. for almost an hour. Just about drove me nuts. viability was bad. Going to bed Saturday night/ Sunday morning was full of nightmarish dreams of tail lights coming at me really fast. LOL Every time I closed my eyes, BAM! I died a thousand deaths that night. I ended up sleeping all day Sunday. Woke up at 1am and was up till it was time to go to work at 7am. I spent the time studying my music and drill book and watching t.v.. Well, what the heck was I suppose to do? Clean the house? Oh I don't think so. LOL I didn't get to see any of the show Saturday night, up till it rained. I did hear that the Bridgemen, took to the field, after I had left. Played for who ever was left in the stadium. In the rain! Way to go Bridgemen!
  7. My father would be so pleased to hear of a dca corps starting up in his old home town. If you are ever in need of music, please feel free to contact me. His scores are on file, at the Marine barracks, free of charge to start up corps. Or corps & schools, with serious financial difficulties. That was his parting gift to drum corps. Cindy Crawford
  8. As I recall, Bob was Air Force. He wasn't at 8th & Ist..
  9. I was in Wildwood this past weekend for the Elks parade. The weather was great. Sunday was ungodly. I was on the practice field. Sweating buckets. And loosing 5 pounds. LOL I'm looking forward to going back. I 'll be marching with The Cabs. Alumni. WooHoo!
  10. This is the exact reason I joined 4 years ago at the age of 47. My family doesn't get why I do this weird thing called drum corps. I never had the chance to march when I was younger. But I came to realize after loosing Dad. Life is to darn short. Make the most of it. But the one thing my family does agree on, is that they like me as I am now, better than how I was before drum corps. I'm happy! I'm motivated! I'm embracing life and pushing myself to learn new things! The way I see it, is I'm finally back where I was meant to be. In drum corps, back with my family.
  11. Thanks for the compliment Tom. We had a wonderful time performing Sat. night. We always look forward to performing at your show. Your whole staff run an outstanding show. The food was great. Thanks again. Cin
  12. Their "Moon River" is really great. Check it out. LOL At least they're playing their instruments in it.
  13. DCA finals weekend is likened to the Olympics and the Super bowl, by us drum corps nuts. But unlike the competitors in those other sports, we have to Pay to participate! Drum corps people, have worked tirelessly all year long to come to finals and compete the final time of the season. Why not give these hard working corps members, a well deserved treat and give them this one night of the year off, to observe or participate in I&E? For crying out loud! They've had all year long to get it right. If they haven't got it down by finals weekend...LOL. Just a thought. How about a poll?
  14. I will be performing w/ The Cabs. alumni. Even if I wasn't, I wouldn't miss this show. It is one of my favorite shows of the year. See ya all there.
  15. I saw this and was wondering what the conditions were at Maxwell Field. I found that new stands were constructed last year and seat over 900 people.
  16. This reminds me of a story my Dad told me. He was judging a corps, when he suddenly throws up his hands. Turns and walks off the field, shaking his head. People are franticly yelling at him, The shows not over yet! Dad turns, holds up the clip board and says."They used up all their points!" DOH! LOL
  17. How about finding an alumni corps to play with. They're full of people with years worth of experience. They don't have very big schedules for the most part.
  18. How about using a flat piece of rubber, like what's used to open jar lids. Along with a wrench. It should protect the threds.
  19. *hahaha very funny Rich. I feel that way about my bari sometimes. What a nuisance.
  20. You may already know this, but I have to say it anyway, just in case. *********Salt and Lemon juice.******************** Make a paste. The lemon is acidic and eats the tarnish. But you have to rinse it off well. The salt acts as an abrasive. To scour. But does not scratch. Rinse well constantly. But the process works quickly. No gloves. No stink. No tons of rags used. I cleaned a couple ,4 foot brass candle holders today , big mothers. Big around as my arm. Using one paper towel and a rag to rinse. In about 20 minutes. I wish my Baritone, was as easy to clean.
  21. You make a very good point. Back in the day the court systems use to tell kids, "Go to Juvenile hall or join a drum corps."To bad they don't do that anymore. Thanks to dci corps evolving to such a point, where the kid off the street can't join anymore.~hmph~ It's sickening, what was done to this equipment. It would have been one thing to steal it for profit, but to just destroy it like that? I wish you guys the best of luck resolving this.
  22. It was certainly a red letter day for me. Performing with the Cabs. alumni for the first time. Something I'd dreamed of doing since I was 9. It was a spectacular kick off of the 2008 season. The weather was perfect! This day was one I'd looked forward to with a bit of trepidation. You see I had only had a month to learn my music. Probably less. ~But I want to again share with all of you, my new method for memorization. It deserves repeating. I record the run thrus and while I play it back, I sing the fingering, like a lyric to a song, into another tape recorder. I've memorized 90% of the music inside a month. I listen to it while driving and working...~ But back to Harrisburg. I had a wonderful day. I was with the group that was with Fran and Barbara at the Hilton where we ate. The food there is wonderful. I had the Crab soup which was full of chunks of crab meat and had a rich, delicious broth. Outstanding. The best 've ever had. The Raspberry salad is also delicious.mmmm Food for thought for next year. Drum corps people everywhere! I can't tell you how cool it is to be able to walk up to a perfect stranger and carry on a conversation. I wasn't able to hear alot of the performances but what I did hear was great. Preparing for the show was like a religious experience. Putting on the uniform. What a feeling that was! My thoughts were of my father and how badly I wished he was there to see the performance. Walking out onto that stage with the Cabs. Alumni was a remarkable experience. I think the only thing that made me nervous was falling off the stage. LOL Looking at the stage, I was to the right. Right where everyone and their brother would be able to hear me! No room for mistakes in that position. LOL It goes by so fast! Much to fast! LOL As we played TAPS, I was close to tears. Dad is on my mind when ever I play this . I was surprised with my own performance. Played most of the music which pleased me a great deal. Now I'm looking forward to our drill camp next weekend. In Wildwood. I'll need all the good luck you can wish my way. LOL
  23. I had such a wonderful first experience performing with the Cabs. Alumni. I'm so greatful to them for allowing me the honor of performing with them. Boy! Did we get lucky with the weather or what? It was a glorious day. Couldn't have asked for better. The only unfortunate thing about performing at the Forum, is not being able to see all the other performances. As well as the mini-corps competition. The party afterwards at the Crowne Plaza was packed. Everyone had an outstanding time watching the winners of the mini-corps comp. The party lasted well into the morning. I don't think I fell asleep till about 4:30. It was great getting to know my new family.
  24. Hey! We all know what a hassle it is. Hauling all our drum corps gear, for an over niter, in one load.~ouch~ Even 1 block can be hard. Sometimes I embarrass myself, with all the stuff I pack. LOL I subscribe to the "be prepared philosophy". I've learned to whittle it down after 3 seasons. LOL
