  1. Oh, there's much more coming "from an effect standpoint". Not going to make any placement predictions, because I'm horrible at them, but I've heard "stuff" regarding additions to Cabs' show
  2. I know you were all dying of suspense - Made it before last call, after Cabs' encore! Hello Mr. Walker! Good night all - Let's do it again in a couple weeks :-)
  3. Cabs 84.50 Empire 83.90 Cabs took brass, guard, & visual. Empire drums.
  4. OMG that was sooooooooo freakin' wicked loud! Both Cabs corps, about 120 horns. And 35 rifles out front!
  5. I'm not really good at crowd guessing, but whatever the east grandstand holds, it was over 95% full :-). So Cabs Alumni just finished their opener.
  6. Yes, Fran- Home stretch. Bayonne's on. Cabs Alum then both Cabs corps before scores. We need to move it along - 11:40 last call in the town my hotel's in"
  7. OK, back on topic here - I predict: The Mrs. & I will thoroughly enjoy the great fish & chips sold by the local athletic boosters at the stadium. Many participants and fans will reminisce fondly over their days spent marching at the old Manning Bowl, even those who never actually did perform at Manning Bowl. Lots of people will stop at the Cabs' souvie tent and spend gobs of cash (or bring your credit cards!) Sunday morning, some of you who made predictions will be making excuses why you were wrong, and some of you will be gloating over being right. So here's hoping for safe travels for all, a great run by all the corps, and a full stadium
  8. Well, I don't know if a great tuba line is "better" :tongue:/> , but, yeah, they're crazy good, aren't they :worthy:/> ? And if #'s 9 & 10 are as good as I hear they are, my vote's same as yours (Well, it already is, but. . . ).
  9. Actually,Bucs all other "announced" captions. Cabs first in visual :smile:/> . Nice show by everbody last night - My "most improved" award since I last saw anybody in Bridgeport goes to, well, a tie between C2 and Cabs. Not going to do a review, as I'm obviously an unrepentent Cabs homer - Will say I really liked Hurricanes'show. If they could just get another half dozen or so each horns and guard, they could do alot more damage than many expect. Oh - Cabs & Cabs Alumni together on Flamingo? Total goosebumps :worthy:/> .
  10. My thoughts exactly - I was worried after reading the "mixed" perceptions online. Saw them in New Haven last night? My favorite BAC show in years! I even LIKED the gray. And people have ben saying the message or theme or whatever doesn't come across - The Mrs. & I TOTALLY got what they were conveying. Not gonna bag on another corps here, but I think I get where you're going about Phantom, too. I always, always, always love Phantom. My one viewing of them, last night? Very good corps, stunning guard, but I still really thought Bloo popped back out ahead of them.
  11. Alright, so I was in the middle of writing a full review of last night's New Haven show, then my computer just brought me back to the forum and lost everything I had typed already :thumbdown:/>/ . Good news for those interested in THIS thread, then, I guess, is I'll get right to 7th :tongue:/>/ . They were not only a pleasant surprise for me, having last seen them years ago in maybe their second year in existence, but the Mrs. & I, along with most of those around us, thought the were BY FAR the most enjoyable open class corps there. No knock on Spartans and Raiders, two excellent OC corps, but 7th seemed to have more, I don't know, "stuff", I guess? The brass book was modern and appropriately demanding, but still offered up plenty of melody. Hornline, while I didn't count exactly, seemed to number about three dozen, maybe a couple more, with five really strong tubas. Frankly, while they had the smallest hornline of the night, they were easily the loudest and clearest line of the three OCs, AND they seemed to my ears to be only amplifying the "traditional" pit instruments, instead of augmenting their horn line with electronics. Drum line high twenties, I think - Plenty of notes, pretty darned well performed, with the line featured nicely at a few spots. Guard numbered a few less than Raiders (high teens, I think),quite a bit less than Spartans 31, but was integrated into the show nicely, and seemed to this old horn player to be pretty accomplished. Overall, I guess I can see how they were behind Spartans a little last night, but I can definitely see that reversing, and maybe soon. Thanks, 7th, for one of the two unexpectedly enjoyable parts of last night's show (The other being Boston - Loved 'em, in spite of the mixed reviews here on the Planet that had me a little concerned). Good luck the rest of the summer!
  12. Just got home from the show. First thought? Bluecoats. Wow. Just wow. Reminded me of a modern Suncoast Sound. And I love their marching style. Biggest pleasant surprises? Boston, after all the mixed rreviews here, and 7th, by far the most enjoyable of the three open corps. Maybe I'll do an actual review tomorrow - I promised a proud dad the scoop on the corps his kid teaches. Last thought for tonight - If Crown & BD are really 2 to 3 points better than Cadets, I, well, I just can't imagine. . .
  13. Pshaw! (It was the name of the opener my first year in Cabs :winky:/> ) So any more Planet-eers going to BAC's long-distance home-show?
  14. Ok, I'll start the CT Drums thread - Why not? Really looking forward to Bloo. Nice night-by-night battle between them and Phantom, eh?
  15. Wow! With a little work, those birds could make a run at top 5!
  16. Amen on the beast of an opener! Improving nicely, too.
  17. So, Fran - What time do you pull into Bridgeort? Gonna be in the box or down on the field :tongue:/> ?
  18. Relax, Ray :tongue:/> . I'll see them in New Haven on Sunday, and I PROMISE I'll tell you all about them :thumbup:/> . I guess your kid don't tell you nuttin'?
  19. I hope you make it - I look forward to your next review!
