  1. Either things are subjective, or they're not. I'll wait while you make up your mind.
  2. The resenting excellence comment is in response to the poster also disliking the Patriots for being.. good? Clearly there's a pattern. Nothing wrong with cheering for the underdog, a lot of people do it. But when we get into the toxic mindset that a consistently excellent organization can only be consistently excellent because they are cheating or finessing the system, yes it comes across as bitter resentment of any organization that is consistently excellent. The Blue Devils are a marvel of consistent excellence much like the Patriots were, like UCLA basketball was, like the Boston Celtics, LA Lakers, and Golden State Warriors were, like the Yankees were, like UConn women's basketball were, like Alabama foot is, like Michael Phelps was, like Novak Djokovic was, etc etc. All of these organizations and people other than BD I am not a fan of, but I respect the hell out of their excellence and am in awe of them whenever I have been able to watch them.
  3. I didn’t realize they had switched media teams! I did notice them being less active
  4. If only there was an eyeroll reaction. And no, I am far from a Patriots fan. Seems like there are two types of people in this world, those who admire excellence and those who resent it
  5. Completely agree. I only singled out BD due to context. But yes, I see this happen for every corps. People don’t have trust in the judges despite the fact that they are quite literally at field level getting reads better than anyone in the stands or sitting at home ever could. And that’s not even mentioning the training and years of experience most of the panel had during championship week
  6. Is “more exciting” and “more interesting” a part of the sheets? Thinking a show was better designed and therefore should’ve been given more credit than it was is one thing and I respect your opinion on that even if I don’t necessarily agree. But thinking a corps is robbed because their show was more exciting and more interesting? Makes me question your judgment on who deserves to win what
  7. I think an audience voted award would be cool to have, even if it's not a part of the scoring/tabulations. Just to give corps even more encouragement to outdo each other on the entertainment factor and give the audience even more involvement in the activity. Sure, it might get memed on a little bit (similar to Mitch Trubisky winning the NVP on Monday Night Football with Nickelodeon), but would still be fun!
  8. Not sure about Flo, but I did watch a youtube video last night of their performance yesterday and noticed the balance between the soloists in the ballad and the rest of the ensemble was SIGNIFICANTLY better. I shouldn't have doubted BD would correct this, but it had been hampering my enjoyment of that movement until now
  9. The growth in visual design from the mid to late 2010s to now has been really fun to watch
  10. Oh man, that's going to be unpleasant for the rest of the season. Hoping he recovers quick, I'm rooting for him and the rest of the Mandarins!
  11. Sorry to hear that. I encourage you to just enjoy the shows that you enjoy at face value much like most others do who love the activity but may not necessarily like BD’s artistic inclination.
  12. Tell him to stay safe out there, Chief!
  13. When presented with actual data that does not align with your assertion that BD's excellence is bad for drum corps, you give up. Sounds about right. I would love to know what store you buy your strawmen from, since you've been throwing them around quite a bit in this thread. No one called you a hater, people just disagree with you. No need to play the victim
  14. Exactly. We are not stupid, we can read the words written on our screens. Just because something is written doesn’t make it true or universally agreed on. I posted this thread fully knowing there would be dissenters of the video
  15. Oh I understand why you think so. But attendance numbers disagree with you. In the span of BD’s most dominant run, we have seen historical attendance figures at prelims, semis, and a couple regionals We also have historic levels of audience engagement through streaming and the theater broadcast.
  16. That’s fine. We clearly watch drum corps in different ways. And that’s okay.
  17. Because the subject matter doesn’t matter to me. Has anyone heard of any of the source literature Bloo is using in their show this year and last year? I watch drum corps for the music and visuals. That is enough for me, and used to be enough for drum corps fans before the 2000s
  18. I disagree because I don’t liken BD’s shows to obscure Oscar award winning movies. It’s that simple
