  1. Overheard someone say that Crown seldom wins its home show. Gotta wonder why. Is it a case of being tougher on your own kid? Because it seems that some judges decided to flaunt last nights regional judges...just thinkin out loud...
  2. Abandon all hope gives me chills. Love this show! Gonna yell LIGHT US UP CROWN!
  3. There was a full panel At the Indianapolis show and Crown was only one 10th of a point behind Bloo right out of the gate. Given the opportunity to finish the show sometime around July 4 a full panel will kick on and you may see some serious placement changes
  4. I would think a full panel would actually favor Crown.
  5. The point spread was only 1.1 and that's with a torn Abandon All Hope tarp which btw, the crowd loved. Crown 's show has unlimited possibilities while Bluecoats can only get noisier.
  6. Seems to me that the folks who got you there last year deserve to march this year. The whole audition process should be examined and revised. Design teams who score well the previous year are not cut. Vets are a corps most valuable resource and should never be cut.
  7. There is a lot of talk about corps loyalty and branding success. One year, a certain corps may win accolades and congratulations on its season. Sales of merchandise rise and status is gained. Heads and egos inflate. It's audition season...and vets are cut. The very people who worked the hardest ... The ones who paid to be there... The ones who tolerated lack of sleep, attacks of corps flu, sunburns, rashes, howling techs, and still performed beyond expectations... Why would you EVER expect loyalty when you don't give it?
  8. Music I think is memorable: The music from "outer limits" The music from "American horror story" Anything by the Moody Blues
  9. It looked like the Crossmen tilted when Bluecoats score was announced. That was good sportsmanship and the epitome of COOL! I am now a Crossmen fan!
  10. Thank you Mr. Hopkins, for your explanation and I can respect your tradition. I can see the merit in it and yet, there is a missed opportunity to learn a life long skill. Leaving early looked bad - it made the Cadets look like sore losers when they actually medaled! But worse, it deprived the corps of the the skill of shedding their disappointments and rejoicing in their accomplishments. The Cadets were incredibly clean AND THEY MEDALLED! Learning to be respectful despite your personal feelings is a life skill. Every kid in the corps shares a common experience and each one knows how it feels to be the darling one day and the goat the next. They share the joys and the aches and the pains. Most of them have friends in every corps. Don't leave early next year. Teach them not to run. Instead, teach them to shed their disappointments and to rejoice. Because when the Cadets are the top dogs, the other corps will be able to rejoice with them.
  11. I could see BAC doing House of cards. Titanic would be good for Madison (a la New York Morning) Walking Dead sounds like it could be a good Cavies show. I'd like to see cadets do game of thrones.
  12. List a corps and what you would like to see them present
  13. Blue devils - fun to watch Crown - fun to listen to Cadets - crazy clean Cavaliers - thrill ride BAC - passion But my number one all time favorite had it all - Bluecoats - pure drum corps, fun to watch, fun to listen to, crazy clean, thrill ride, passion galore, and a new perspective
  14. Bluecoats rocked Lucas Oil tonight. Tilt is one of those shows that will live on. Thank you Bluecoats for creating a show that brought everyone to their feet! My ears are ringing from all the BLOOOing !
  15. The Bluecoats show moves you without American flags or fishnet stockings...and that's not easy.
  16. Some corps use sexy selling (this is a type of prop) Some corps ask you to stand by raising the flag (sadly, also a type of prop) Some corps don't ask you to stand but you do it anyways because they bloo you away. Which corps do YOU think I'm describing?
  17. As Americans, we are compelled to cheer for our country because we are proud to be Americans. But, there's a difference between asking an audience to stand up and cheer vs an audience standing up and cheering of their own volition. Cadets' show finale asks you to stand. Bluecoats show does not ask you to stand but you just can't help it because the show is THAT GOOD.
  18. As for SCV, why have props you don't use and a lamp you don't rub?
  19. Has no one noticed that Blue Devils guard portrays a woman getting slapped? The effect is softened because she is smiling. This is sexualized violence. This is not a show it would not promote as a good example of family entertainment. I am ashamed of the Blue Devils show.
  20. Ok describe each corp with one word: BD-bewildering Cadets-nostalgic Bluecoats-innovative Crown-unfocused ( why use trampolines at all?) SCV-replay
  21. I love them all but one corps has presented a show like no other - BLUECOATS because they took a chance. They tried something new- New music, new ideas, risks and change are exciting. The top shows all get similar scores for brass, percussion, guard and by this time of year, they all are rocking. But, as someone who has been watching shows for 5 years only: Blue Devils are following a formula of white props and the show looks like a continuation of the past few shows - you can predict the way their show is gonna look- it's a formula that has worked for years. Let's provoke people (teehee) and use white props. Ok- looks cool but have you taken any risks or did anything new? Nope. Cadets have a formula too - let's not provoke anyone at all and present a clean show that takes no chances and leaves nothing to the imagination. So, let's hide 3/4 of the corps behind a giant prop that looks like it was assembled from left over state fair booths and lets dress the guard in pajamas. And that is what I said... Crown starts their show by singing and chanting again (formula?). The 4 monstrous trampolines are a functional and visual design mistake - they are a distraction and would improve the show if they were removed. SCV - If one giant gray prop looks ok, 3 will make it better? Whaaaaat? No. Gorgeous costumes but no risks here and no excitement either. Yawn a roo. If DCI is a showcase of the very best and is meant to serve as an example of possibilities, TILT is the only show that qualifies. Thank you Bluecoats for creating a new perspective ( whoa! See what I did there?) and getting everyone out of their seats this year!
  22. Don't diss other corps. Most people in the corps have marched several different corps. Stay up beat and smile and appreciate the spirit and passion of every corps member. That said, speculate in a mature way.
  23. To Do List: Wear orange and TILT Paul Brown Tiger Stadium tomorrow night. (Go Left so we don't crash into each other)
