  1. Real MVP of this season appears to be the now former Crown guard staff. That unit is getting crushed on the sheets. And from my untrained eye, I can't understand why, or at least can't understand why the guard not being featured a ton just takes them down so many rungs.
  2. I'm sure it's water/bathroom break related. Show starts at 8 p.m. but when it's 100 during the day, it's still plenty hot in the evenings.
  3. I was at the theater last night. First time seeing the show NOT on a computer screen so that was pretty exciting. Love the show, think it has what it takes to win (but unfortunately don't think it will), but I do have a few quibbles. -Wish the son was dressed differently than the rest of the guard to distinguish him from the rest of them. -I wish there was something between the Crown set at the end and the last few bars. Right now, they're in the Crown set, we hear the *whistle* noise and they move into their last set. I wish there was a bit more transition there. I really enjoyed the interview with Klesch and found it interesting the design team knew they were going with the current ending all along. My questions for everyone are these: why not go with that from the beginning of the season? Why give the audience a solid ending that most enjoyed, only to put in one that some have rejected because they actually enjoyed the first one? Lastly, do you think the judges are affected by the change? I'm assuming most, if not all of them saw the first ending at some point and although they're supposed to be judging the product on the field in front of them, I wonder if any compare it to the old ending and ding the production as a whole just slightly? I understand going for a big GE bump at the end of the season. However, in the past--and last year is a great example--Crown's gone with a very obvious placeholder ending, making the new ending that much more impactful. This year was not the case and I wonder if it's costing them a bit in terms of audience and judge reception.
  4. Can confirm from a leaked post on Reddit. Percussion with a huge edge.
  5. Hit me up, too, Cappy. Just saw the new ending. I personally like it, although I wish the Crown didn't look so much like a sombrero.
  6. Just an absolutely perfect night last night. Great crowd, great weather, great shows. Really enjoyed everyone, including Guardians and Pioneer. That was the best I've seen from Pioneer to my limited DCI knowledge. Musically, I loved all the shows, but design and visual wise, I was meh on Troopers, Phantom and BK. Academy was hands down the crowd favorite and mine as well. Just a fun show that they're playing the heck out of. Personally, I find it easier to appreciate the lower tier corps when the top-5 or so aren't present. So I definitely broadened my scope as a fan last night. Great evening of drum corps all around!
  7. Hoping it doesn't get rained out as well. Looking promising, but who knows with Oklahoma weather. Blue Knights are at Choctaw HS.
  8. Someone said earlier Crown's percussion didn't have a great run tonight. Score definitely confirms that. They don't have to be first there, but they need to cut that 1.1 deficit in half.
  9. All black = awesome football uniforms, not DCI uniforms. Personally, not a fan.
  10. They'll yank the grass up as soon as the second game is done tonight. They'll work til it's done, so I'd bet on it looking like the normal Georgia Dome by Friday.
  11. Not surprising, either. Can't wait to see Cadets changes on Saturday.
  12. As noted in the Broken Arrow thread, Crown's score is now the highest so far this season.
  13. Bluecoats took the same two captions as last night- Vis. Analysis and Percussion. Crown took the rest and doubled the gap. Maybe time to be a touch concerned for BLOO.
  14. Open Class 1 Southwind 53.450 World Class 1 Carolina Crown 88.250 2 Bluecoats 87.450 3 The Cavaliers 82.250 4 Boston Crusaders 78.600 5 The Academy 75.900 6 Cascades 65.250 7 Pioneer 62.250
  15. Phantom percussion score. Eeeesh. Crown was performing at or above its book in five captions on Saturday, just two tonight. And both of those were at book level. Good sign for sure. http://recaps.competitionsuite.com/bc0ecf94-1d0b-4673-9187-6bcac4a116ab.htm
  16. 1 Carolina Crown 86.950 2 Bluecoats 86.500 3 Phantom Regiment 81.700 4 Madison Scouts 79.850 5 Boston Crusaders 78.050 6 Spirit of Atlanta 72.200 7 Cascades 65.350 8 Pioneer 61.650
  17. Yeah, the part after the ballad is the orchestral interlude leading into the big singing of Ode to Joy. So Crown is playing the full lead-in into the OtJ hit in the original symphony (although Crown is going considerably faster). I agree the closer needs some work, but as far as getting into OtJ, I'm not sure what else you do if the original music leading into it isn't working.
  18. Understand what you're saying, but no one said that in this thread. All comments I've seen were directed at BD's performance.
  19. I think it started with four (!!!) and it's up to six now. I think. Could be wrong. I agree with those that say there probably won't be an issue in a dome, but I think there would've been less of a chance for issues period if the guard hit the weight room.
  20. Stacy Toal rocks. Banner update for Crown: not much of an issue getting it up and over the corps, but a big gust caught it on the back third of the field and the guard members couldn't get it completely off the field. Actually covered the numbers on the far side at one spot. Didn't hinder anything, though. Overall, looked like a great run for Crown. Is it wrong to attribute a lot of the banner issues to the guard's physical strength? I mean, we're not having these problems if it's a few JJ Watts pulling it, right?
  21. No banner issues for Crown it looked like. Great to see. Such a cool thing when it works well.
  22. Shannon Brown is showing the whole show. At least until their battery dies. Haha
