  1. After last weekends success at DCA mini-corps, that may be sooner than you think. I hope that the seagull is safe.
  2. I am very sad at this news. I had the privilege to interview Maynard several times. He was always funny, friendly and ALWAYS took time out of the interview to stress the value of music education in the public schools. Ed Sargent was very good to make sure that I had plenty of time with Maynard because he enjoyed our talks and liked what we had done for him. My heartfelt sympathies to his family, friends and bandmates. Bless You, Maynard!
  3. It looks like this will get rid of the front/back pants and shakos and probably create a replacement budget for the new uniforms.
  4. Spirit- To me, it felt like the drive had been removed from "Ol' Man River" especially. It was a "nice" show, but I just didn't connect with Spirit the way that I wanted to. I wanted something more akin to classic '80's Spirit with at least part of this show's theme. I too wanted to see the Colts in 12th... Glassmen- This is one of my favorite years for the Gmen. The show was well designed, well executed. The deafness was a nice moment and really helped to drive things home. I am really pleased with the decision to let these guys play at both ends of the dynamic range, it's added a lot to their shows for the last 2 years.
  5. http://www.noamps.com/ A few of the proprietors are DCP members, they will probably respond to this thread shortly...
  6. Hey Matt, If you make it to the state fair, check out the model of the stadium in the exhibition building near the 38th St. Main gate. In addition to the model, there are some comparison charts between the RCA Dome and Lucas Oil Stadium. This thing is going to be massive. The model took something like 200 tubes of superglue to assemble. I picked up a brochure but didn't bring it with me to work this morning.
  7. If things are running that close to the out time, maybe finals should start 30 minutes earlier... Classy thing to do, Phantom, very Classy.
  8. There's also MEGABUS! Pretty cheap rates because they don't have a bus station, just scheduled stops at public lots. They hub out of Chicago, but have regular stops in Indy that go to and from Chicago and Cincy.
  9. I was referring to the link that you had posted about the sniper from the Muncie area-he's locked up. IPD does need to deal with the East side violence quickly. What's stranger to me than the Indy Star only having a small blurb today and the 2 or 3 minutes of footage of the announcement and Crown on the news last night is the fact that DCI hasn't posted the announcement on their website yet. I guess we are just a niche activity and in the grand scheme of things to most people, it's not much bigger than GenCon being here this week or Promise Keepers booking the dome for an event.
  10. They caught the kid, it was an isolated spree. I love living here too, Indy has the advantages of a big city but you still feel safe walking down the street.
  11. The Indiana State Fair has a couple of free stages and a daily parade, so standstills and the like would be naturals. It's about 5 miles from the new stadium site.
  12. At least we don't have serial snipers like Phoenix did recently... every major city has a spike from time to time. They've increased patrols despite the overtime from last weekend's Brickyard and this week's State Fair. The gangbangers will kill each other off by 2008.
  13. I prefer St. Elmo's or Sullivan's (), Nick-but Ruth's Chris is good too.
  14. There is also http://www.indydt.com IMAX Theatre Eiteljorg Museum NCAA Hall of Champions Childrens Museum of Indianapolis White River Gardens Indianapolis Zoo Indianapolis Museum of Art and this week starts The Indiana State Fair with Band Day tomorrow!
  15. The article says that if Lucas Oil Stadium isn't ready in time for finals in '08 that they will be held in Memorial Stadium at IU :) There have been numerous discussions and lots of planning in regards to the acoustics in the new stadium. I personally know 2 acoustic architectuaral consultants that were called in to help in the design process from an acoustic standpoint. They are looking to use this as a concert venue as well as the home for BOA and DCI finals and the acoustics in the "Hoosier/RCA Dome" were one of the main complaints from its opening. From what I've heard, that won't be a problem in the new stadium.
  16. I know that there has been a lot of discussion about DCI's offer to move to Indy. It looks like they are going to go through with it. Indy Star Article
  17. Not only is Memorial Stadium a great place to clean, but the angles to the press box and the box itself are very similar to Camp Randall. It's a good place to mimic what Crown is going to see later this week. Can't wait to hear them again on Thursday!
  18. *bump* You're pretty ok yourself, Eric. B)
  19. I'd much rather face a judge for acting and even failing than to 1. live with myself for doing nothing or 2. being judged when it really counted for not acting. I agree, this activity is full of good people. Best wishes to the photographer and a big "ATTABOY" to Curtis!
  20. For me, the music has to come first. It is the reason that corps move (music=motion). I think that what makes some of those standout shows memorable from a drill standpoint is that the GREAT drill writers (Zingali, Brubaker, etc) took great care to make the visual phrases match the musical phrases and took great pains to properly stage the right sections at the appropriate times. It's something that isn't always charted as well as it should be, but when every beat makes sense, it can only add to the overall impact of the performance.
  21. May Andy's journey home be as safe as he kept so many while they were in his care on the road. God Bless,
  22. I agree that Hop or any other director has the right to say whatever he wants. I also agree that not every judging panel is as good as every other. I don't see where Hop is bashing anyone, he's just being honest about where they got hurt on the sheets. That said, consider the NBA... If a coach comes out in a post-game press conference (or in Mark Cuban's case later on his blog) and says that the officiating s*cks, the league is quick to follow with a fine. Granted there's no rule in place to cover this, thank goodness, but most leagues have similar "save face" policies. I guess it's up to DCI and the members to police themselves.
