  1. Honestly, I think you are overthinking this. This is a show to simply enjoy. Good music, exciting visual and infectious energy. I have thought for the last three years that Bluecoats are the anti-depth of concept corps to which I say, hallleluja!
  2. Section 141, top row for me. I think it is the perfect union of visual and audio balance.
  3. The ballad is definitely one of those "you need to experience this live" moments. When everything clicks, it can bring you to tears. It just needs to be nailed to get the goosebumps.
  4. And now Bluecoats have three practice / travel days before meeting up with BD in Denver if I read the schedule right. Edit: My bad. They are competing in Casper in three days and then meet BD the next night in Denver.
  5. I like broccoli more than aspergillum unless you drench the aspergillum with butter.
  6. What a year! This is going to be so much fun from here to Indy!
  7. Holy cow! When was the last time BAC was within a point of Cadets? And beating them in guard! Way to go!
  8. Welcome Jim! I hope you will enjoy DCP. It is nice to have both you and your lovely wife here. I look forward to your contributions!
  9. Ditto. I honestly don't care if Bluecoats are 1st or 6th. If they have a great run and there are 5 other corps that are better then I will say, "Wasn't that a great drum corps year?"
  10. It was very strange. BC Fan/Alum: The ballad was a little off. Someone else: You are dissing Santa Clara! BC Fan/Alum: Wait ... what?
  11. Actually, if you look carefully at that clip above, you may notice that Spirit borrowed our podium. I am not sure why.
  12. It was a crazy year for us. We had a 55 in Altoona (an all time low for 27th) and ended up with an 87.5 at finals (it was still the tic era).
  13. Actually both! We were fifth, Spirit was fourth for both prelims and finals. We performed right before Spirit at finals.
  14. For the record, I have congratulated SCV on their well deserved win on three separate threads. I don't believe in excuse making. Observing Bluecoats are having rough runs is just that -- objective observations. Like I said above, for many Bluecoats fans, the rough runs are happening a bit too often ... we are hoping that the corps becomes more consistent. That takes nothing away from SCV's victory. They were the better corps last night.
  15. I would like to add that there are some people here who have seen the corps a lot from Spring Training through multiple ensemble rehearsals and multiple live shows in addition to live streams. Many of us have noticed that this years's corps hasn't been consistent as far as runs go. When some of us note the roughness in a run we are expressing concern because this is becoming a problem. We do not intend it a an explaination nor as an excuse. We want it fixed.
  16. At this point in the season, I have three concerns with Bluecoats show: 1. It seems from what I have seen or heard from others that the corps is not as consistent from one run to another as I would expect such a veteran corps to be. I am sure the staff is on it. 2. The electronic set-up has been problematic with various amps / speakers sometimes not working or mics not communicating with the mothership. I wonder if there is any consideration being given to simplifying the set-up. Perhaps fewer speakers or mics? It may not even be possible at this point, but I find myself holding my breath every show hoping everything works well. 3. The ballad. I am afraid the ballad needs some major surgery. The intended effect hasn't consistently worked. Perhaps it is time to rethink the whole concept? I know these observations aren't all rainbows and unicorns and I don't want to come off as a negative Nellie. I continue to be a big fan of the corps and this show but I hope these issues are at least being discussed. Knowing how creative and effective this staff is, I am sure I will be blown away by the final product.
  17. And when that happens, it is great for drum corps and it is great for the fans!
  18. Congratulations SCV! It is shaping up to be a wonderfully competitive season, and when that happens, it is great for us fans!
