  3. And I think there may be other Mainiacs you can ride down with.
  4. Allow me to recommend the Manchester NH Muchachos http://www.muchachos.org/ They have been hosting a show for a couple of years and are doing more field performances. Nice folks, good staff and growing.
  5. I miss my B-men family Had a blast, look forward to doing it again someday, best wishes to all and certainly encourage the fence sitters to get on board!
  6. I went to prelims, did not stay for finals. It had been about 10 years since I went to a show. Really enjoyed it. The organizers did a great job, Paul Cain (correct?) was excellent as usual and all the guards were wonderful. Sac World - Holy cow! From their entrance to the floor through the performance they oozed confidence and sell. I spoke to a member afterwards (a SCV '02 rook-out, yay!) and told her I got the feeling the members were expressing to the audience "you are so fortunate to be here seeing us perform." And I don't mean that with any arrogance, just a pure "we came to play" attitude. Alter Ego - A beautiful evocative program, excellent thematic presentation. I got it, from beginning to end. A physically impressive team (I love saying ‘team’ at pageantry events, it weirds people out =-0 ). Loved the floor, the uni's and the show design. Here on will get a little blurry for me, I took no notes and didn't intend to write a review. It did look like Shen's floor didn't work as planned. It's an engineering effort to be sure. Great show though. Trumbull or Norwalk with the sunburst floor; beautiful, artistic presentation, very moving. The guard with the giant wheel and wooden pikes? Show was busy, hard to know what to watch, dynamic performers and an intricate design but, maybe too much for me. With featured performers and other complicated work going on, I was somewhat whelmed. Tina Turner show? Hmmm, well, some rather intimate greetings between the members before the start . . really? Then their audio I think needs to be re-EQ'd, it was strident and tinny. I couldn't really hang in with the theme, found my mind wandering somewhat. Salem Blue, their work and choreography all flowed so beautifully, really enjoyed them. Who did the American River theme? For me, a great package; audio, floor design, choreography, equipment work, features, loved it. Another notable show for me was the horror-ish theme, the guard had on eye black, I thought they really sold this well. I felt transported and was actually creeped out a couple of times, nice =-) There was nothing I didn't like all day, I appreciate where the activity has come and appreciated all the guards efforts and supporters. I do wish the staff of the youngest Sac guard had not chosen to "Jon Benet" them quite so much. I plan to attend the Eastern Mass. championships in March. Thanks and good luck to all the guards!
  7. I had the unique privilege, especially for an "out of towner", to shake hands with and bend the ear of Mr. Fielder Saturday night at the legendary No. 1 Broadway in Los Gatos, CA. I talked to him about what I have seen and felt regarding my beloved red team. He was very cordial and accommodating and we were hitting similar notes throughout. I don't know anything about positions to be filled or left vacant but I know that the kids will come first. The alumni is active, the boosters are committed and the vets that I spoke with this summer were positive about the future. What GR and others built in the competitive band hotbed of NorCal will always be a much anticipated performance wherever they go. And now we don't have to wait for summer, we have comp guard season to look forward to.
  8. A little more show performed a little bit cleaner. Triple Q's don't win, clean double Q's do. But, again, nicely done. *raises a PBR to youse all*
  9. I bet they will be thinking about just that. Man, close at the top. Knowing how clean Star was, not being there but having seen them, big grats to Mass Brass!
  10. OK, when I was in Bmen '05-'06 I asked everyone about this, no one had an answer. That night in Denver, one of the Bridgemen shook my hand then opened his coat to reveal Champagne bottles in pockets sewn in the liner. I declined saying we really couldn't do that. Then, as I remember it, he said,"What about this?" He held out his closed fist, palm down. I held out my hand. When I looked he had dropped two units famously described by Jim Morrison of the doors. I thanked him and those went in my hat band for later. I wanted reunite with that guy, it was something I really hoped would have happened in my time in Bayonne. Maybe someday.
