  1. Yes, interesting indeed... http://www.dci.org/news/view.cfm?news_id=6...2f-0def4198c74b
  2. The problems, besides being grossly over blown by a few individuals with an agenda, were not caused by a single individual. That person just became a lightning rod in this situation because of their personality. He is the person responsible for enforcing rules and that makes him the bad guy in th eyes of people who don't want to follow them. The boss is always the bad guy.
  3. I bellieve I speak for all alumni when I say that I am proud to have you in the corps. The dedication you and your family have shown this corps is incredible. Thank you.
  4. I don't think we need more popular music in drum corps. Especially from the last 10 or 15 years. Most of it does not translate. It's hard to take a 3 or 4 piece rock song and fill out a full drum corps arrangement. It's even harder with hip-hop/ pop music which is basically a drum loop and a 4 second sample. There are certain genres that just don't work. There are exceptions, like say 'Hide and seek' by Imogen Heap (Personally, I thought Spirit's arrangement was a huge fail, but I have high expectations since that is probably my favorite song of all time) or maybe 'Black Parade' by MCR that have enough depth to support bigger arrangements In general however, you will either arrange them to death, in which case they are not recognizable (like the Bluecoats version of 'I'll be watching you') or tremendously weak. One of the few succesful examples I can think of is the Renegade's 'My Immortal' by Evanesence. As for Kansas specifically, I was underwhelmed by the Renegade's 'Dust in the Wind' (and Key Poulan is one of the best in the brass arranging game) We did 'Magnum Opus' as an indoor show a couple of years ago, but I don't think that would work nearly as well on the field. Anyway, here's hoping that they will make it work.
  5. I wrote a drum corps screen play when I was in college and the was one of the corps names I tossed around. But you can only play one song: Marching Season.
  6. I really can't tell which posts were sarcasm and which were not. I think the first post was at least 67.531% serious, but some of the replies weren't. At least some people had the common sense to get really ###### off about it.
  7. Am I the only person that doesn't have patches on his jacket?
  8. Is this going to be featuring the music of Insane Clown Posse?
  9. I was always really into Creatures (For a While) and it it had been out, don't tread on me would have been a great hype song. Me and some CR guys went to see them a couple years ago and Screamed 'Go Skyriders!' at Chad. He didn't hear us. Thank God.
  10. Mine was 'Every You, Every Me' by Placebo The Drumline listened to 'No Light' by Third Strike
  11. The blucoats incident is just one of MANY I witnessed or was told about from no less than 4 other corps. It seems that there is just a shift in general in the behavior of members. Now this could just be a fluke that all of this occured in the same year, unlike previous years where the incidents have been much more isolated, but I don't think it is. I think there is pressure on the administration of corps to have a more "cool" atmosphere and be more hands off disciplinary wise. Doing whatever it takes to attract more talent. Personally, I couldn't stand it. I don't care who you are or how good you are, you get s-faced on corps time and youre in for it. It's up to the corps to balance outside perception with competitive achievement. Unfortunately in this country we tend to react to events rather than spot trends and nip things in the bud. Hopefully, the behavior of members of those corps at finals this year will be the event that spurs those changes. No corps should have to feel like they are sacrificing talent because they have rules.
  12. Rhythm X did a velvet rope show 2 years ago. Pretty awesome. Their theatrics were legendary.
  13. I think this is great. I have a friend who got a keyboard spot at Crown this past season via a YouTube video.
  14. I didn't see any links to that thread here. I'm not in this forum a lot so maybe I just didn't see the topic, but if it has relevance to this subject I don't see why we shouldn't. I'm with MK on this, if these were isolated to specific people then those people should be punished. What's really missing here is the details. That would make all the difference.
  15. I don't think that we're talking about simply having sex and drinking. If that's the case I really doubt the whole band would have been suspended. They are talking about hazing, which involve dangerous amounts of drinking and some other type of sexual activity, maybe something forced, etc. I really doubt that a full band suspension would result if some people got caught doing their business on the bus or some 19 year olds got caught with a 40 of Old E. At this point with no details we're making assumptions. I really doubt that we're talking about the every day sex and drinking that is par for the college course.
  16. Personally, I wouldn't buy a ring like this, however I believe that the purpose of these rings is for large donors or sponsors of the corps. If you have that kind of money and make that kind of contirbution you deserve to be able to get a little recognition since you were a part of getting the corps where they were. Even though these are available on the website I don't think the intent of these rings is for the general public. I mean, how many every day phans have that kind of money throw down on a souvie?
  17. Okay, not to disect too much because this is marching band, not drum corps, where rehearsal time and experience level is much less (typically) you have annoying things like class and work interfering music. (How dare they?!) Anyway, Auburn was forgettable Clemson was good, nothing special Georgia was pretty tight, but not much else going on Florida about like Auburn LSU was fun albeit sloooooooooow. (Bonus points for the indiana jonesettes ) (Bonus points taken away for the slow motion pit viper.) USC's colorguard looks like a bunch of prudes following the pole dancers at LSU Texas definately the best musically. No frills, just good. Got my vote. A couple good bands, but not representitive of the best bands in the country by far. Those would include (IMHO) Penn State, Michigan, North Texas, Jasksonville State and UMASS.
  18. We had a concert bass come off the stand in 2003. We all just aired out the parts.
  19. I would love to see some stuff from candide. The overture, of course, and Make our garden grow.
  20. What?! Southwind is moving to Allentown because they joined YEA?! You heard it here first!
  21. ...And you also get firmware updates which ensure that you will be able to take advantage of all the newest blu-ray features. Not to mention that the load times on a PS3 are significantly shorter than stand alone players due to the insane processing power that they posess. That aside. There is no reason to buy a stand alone blu-ray player. The whole BR vs HDDVD battle was pointless because physical media is coming to an end. Digital delivery is the way of the future. My advice would be to get yourself a nice Home Theatre PC (Like this one or just turn your old PC into one when you upgrade like I am doing) and a good internet connection. In 3-5 years every piece of 1080p goodness will be available online through services like Netflix, iTunes, Amazon UnBox, Hulu, etc. If you really want something to hold over and don't wanna blow $400 on a PS3, you can buy an upscaling DVD player which will make regular DVDs look almost as good as BR and only costs between $60 and $100.
