  1. Please move this show to UNT's Apogee! why? I was late due to accidents/traffic on the highway. I spent over 30 minutes zooming around for a parking spot and eventually got super lucky by spotting an employee from the water park leaving. UNT has more than enough parking for this event. I'm sure Apogee is more expensive, but this show is ready for it. I was seating in premium seats right on the 50 and had a difficult time hearing the pit clearly because their sound shoots right into the wall. Further more, Collins stadium requires an ambulance sit right on the track with it engine running the ENTIRE time. I understand they want to be safe, but this is definitely overkill. You can hear the super loud engine growling through every drum corps. VIP opportunities. Many shows are now offering VIP box seating with food. Apogee is perfect for this.
  2. Or more if PR peaks early like I'm predicting.
  3. Yeah I know, I just have a strong hunch that phantom is going to peak early. I could be wrong, I admit, I really dislike PR's show this year so I could be biased. I wouldn't be surprised to see BS and maybe even Xmen catch them.
  4. Their content is lower in demand than most corps around them AND they aren't performing at the level of corps around them. Just look at the recaps... To be honest, this is probably the most immature sounding Cadets horn line I've ever heard in my 20 ish years of being in the activity. Don't get me wrong, I really enjoy Drew Shanefield's arrangements and this years Cadets is no exception, but I think the judges are spot on with this one.
  5. This show is great and should easily beat Phantom. I can't wait to see them in Texas. I can see this corps being the dark horse of the season; that's a beefy show.
  6. I really enjoyed Pacific Crest's drill this year. In term's of good old fashioned music + drill, PC is as straight forward as you can get now-a-days.
  7. BD would get more of their 'due respect' if their show wasn't so chop and bop... :P ...jk The high brass feature after the ballad is one of my favorite moments of the year from any show! Aside from that, I'm not too engaged.
  8. Exactly! AND THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN SNARE FEATURE RIGHT BY THE MICROPHONES
  9. I guess I meant what current young DCi fans now are going to complain about in the future compared to drum corps as it is now... but this response is still funny.
  10. I think it's new ppl bringing up the same topic every year and then DCP veterans slapping it out the same way. Based on AFD's average post, I didn't interpret his comment at all like you did, and that's fine.
  11. I really wonder what young DCI fans are going to be complaining about in 30 years...
  12. my answer to your question is those design qualities are more "effective" to the judging criteria... Packing more GE into the show opposed to spending time on transition. I'm not defending it, just my perspective.
  13. ahh, another 'haha you don't get it so I'm just gonna sit on my high horse and laugh at you lower specimen' post.
  14. I still feel optimistic. I really don't see Phantom's show holding it's weight to the end of the season. IMHO it's up there with the worst they've every put out. Don't get me wrong, IMO Crossmen's show is no classic either, but I think it has more meat than phantom.
  15. Today's society is constantly seeking to perfect everything. Be it a product, an experience, or a feeling; the only way to stick out from the bunch is make your thing newer and/or different. The pace at which we become dissatisfied with our thing is increasing constantly... meaning we are satisfied for shorter periods of time and that satisfaction time is getting exponentially shorter. I view DCI design to have many of the same characteristics... corps have always searched for the element that will set them apart and make their thing more effective than the others, just nowadays we're at a point where the satisfaction with good ideas does not last very long and to be the most effective a corps must have a new thing that makes judges take notice or rethink what is effective. I hope for the day when 'cool music + cool drill = cool show' IS the new thing that corps must do to be new. IMO we're on our way there already... BD show design reminds me of skit comedy while other corps may be a longer cohesive narrative, but that's not limited to only BD.
  16. My beef is that mic'ing the snare drum solo when they're 8 steps back from the front sideline is not a good musical decision whatsoever... I'm baffled about how phantom is getting away with such poor sound reinforcement decisions.. If we're going to allow all this crazy microphoning there should be a score that reflects proper use and musical use of the equipment...
  17. J. Davila really hurt the corps with such a low percussion score... I'm having a hard time believing there was THAT much of a spread from bones to blues stars.. Anybody at Minnesota can able to weigh in on the PR/BS/X match ups live? Anyone think that Bones performing before the intermission hurt them? I'm not a Phan at all this year of PR's show, would love to see Bones pass them...
  18. I've seen BK and PR both live multiple times now. TBH I'm surprised that PR is even close to BK. I have a feeling that will change come full panel time. Just an early guestimation...BK should lead the bottom top 6 while phantom will struggle to keep up. It'll be VERY interesting this Saturday when Xmen PE and blue stars see each other.
  19. As always for this time of the season.... can we get to a regional already and see how everyone stacks up?!?!
  20. From a high box I: - enjoy Academy more. - enjoy mandarins less. - really dig PC drill.
  21. Mandarins are definitely the surprise. Academy could be the dark horse.
