  1. I've seen the video, but would be tarred and feathered as a lowly "newby parent" if I revealed anything that they didn't want revealed. But as a parent of a MM, I couldn't be more excited for what they are bringing to the field this year. I'm also very impressed to see the wholesale changes they are making even now in the show between one night's video and the next. I know that's part of the process, but the speed at which they are modifying this show this early is impressive.
  2. I'm able now to log into my son's FB account to see their feedback videos. I share your excitement! And obviously won't be posting anything! :-)
  3. Saw this come through the Cavalier's newsfeed on FB. That's MY young man busting it for the Cavaliers!
  4. According to Matt Damon's movie, the potato farming immigrants of Mars call a day a "Sol". Or something like that.
  5. Awesome...now I know who you are on DrumCorpPlanet! At the very final "horn's down" is a nice shot of my brother! Great show!
  6. And for good measure...this company front in 1979:
  7. Yep...and then the final moments of "Let It Be Me" were off the decibel-chart too. Still hate that one baritone got a little over-aggressive in those final phrase...you can hear him/her on the tapes to this day. Might have cost them a medal. Finished 4th to Bridgemen by a hair after beating them in Prelims.
  8. Spirit of Atlanta in 1979 and 1980. I'll never forget when Spirit was asked to march halftime for Georgia Tech at the Tech-Alabama game ( because Tech students weren't even back in school yet). Alabama brought their "Million Dollar Band" with what looked like a million members. And...just a couple of weeks off of Finals, Spirit walked out onto the field behind them with 128 and just blew the paint off the pressbox. Good times.
  9. My wife and I were very impressed with the leadership, the medical team, etc. in the Parent's Symposium yesterday. You can tell they've done this once or twice.
  10. Watched the taped Parent's symposium ( or most of it) yesterday. We had to leave for an appointment...but thought we were close to the end...and never saw uniforms. Have to go back and re-watch the end.
  11. Yea...he doesn't even use Facebook...but evidently that's the way Cavs want him to submit videos and communicate with Staff, so he had to create an account. My son is 18 years old. They don't give a crap about Facebook! :-)
  12. ...my son is at camp right now in Rosemont. I logged into his Facebook to check what time camp breaks and in their members group they had posted a vid of their opening minute. All this to say, that as a Dad who has been taking him to Corps shows since he was 8 years old, I became a little overwhelmed. Gonna have to fire my housekeeper because it had to be the dust in the room that caused those couple of tears to leak out of my eyes. My boy is living a dream...and his old man is living it right along with him! p.s. Of course I can't share it. p.p.s. You're gonna love it.
  13. Interesting...my wife and I will be at Prelims/Quarters/Finals this year. We have been to DCI South for the last 11 years in the Georgia Dome, which is ( was) a Professional Sports stadium, and they have never had beer/wine vendors. For some reason, I though they were the "norm". Thanks for all the great responses!
  14. I'm just curious about this. I've been going to DCI shows since I was about 15, and not being of age, I don't even remember if beer or wine were sold at them. I know they aren't now. Last September, I went to the DCA Finals in Rochester, NY...and was pleasantly surprised that I could buy an ice cold beer and watch drum corps. Seems that it would be a huge revenue producer in large domes, etc. Just curious if anyone had any insight.
  15. He's been a Cavs fan since he was very young. He also auditioned with Coats and is a big Coats fan. Missed by 2 slots with Coats with "visual" being the Achilles heel as opposed to "Music" where he did quite well with Coats. For his first year to ever walk into a DCI audition, we were very pleased. The kid is a hard worker! And now that he's a Cav, I'm 99.98% sure he'll be a Cav for life. He's loyal like that.
  16. My kid is kinda used to that scenario. He marched Atlanta CV in DCA for the last two years. They finished 5th in DCA Finals in 2015 and 6th in 2016 when the top 3 were clearly defined and 4-8 were fighting for placement. I agree with all of your assessments above. Great organizations with great musicians. I do think from my up-close experience with auditions this year that you will find that Cavies have upgraded their brass line at audition, and I know from in-home experience that they are working like crazy on individual improvement week over week. I kinda see Drum Corps like golf. Go put up the best score you have in the bag. And if someone is better...kudos to them. :-)
  17. My son is a new addition to that Brass line this year. And I can't wait to see what the judges say about them! My heart says they are going to take a step up this year. My head says I'll know more when I see the first offering in the third week of June. :-)
  18. Spirit of Atlanta 1980 at Finals which also included: 27th Lancers 1980 Bridgemen 1980 Blue Devils 1980
  19. My kid is a newbie to the Cavs, and he is beyond excited about the show! As a parent, I'm pretty jacked, too!
  20. According to my son, some form of announcement that was intended for today has been moved to tomorrow. Unsure how detailed it will be, but hopefully plenty of "meat" in it.
  21. Enjoying the banter and educated guesses. I have a marching member in my home, heard the whole kit and kaboodle on a call he was on last night. It's going to be a fun year for the Cavaliers in 2017! And I do believe full announcements are coming in the next 24-48 hours if I eavesdropped correctly. If this is considered or perceived to be a "I know something you don't know" post, then moderators please delete it. It is intended to be a "I'm enjoying watching people speculate" post now that I've heard what's coming. And full details are coming very soon.
  22. My wife is a seamstress, and spent this entire last fall taking care of a 180-member marching band's uniforms ( with a team of Moms of course) so she might escape the food truck. I, on the other hand, would more than likely end up there myself. :-)
