  1. I don't know if anyone knew this, I might just be out of the loop but.... The main drum beat from Outkast's song "Spread" is identical to the beat at the end of SCV's 2004 Double Beat drum cadence. The Outkast cd "Speakerboxx/The Love Below" was released on September 23rd, 2003. The new version of SCV's double beat was written by Murray Gusseck for the 2004 drumline. Am I just way behind the times? Have any other cadences been written for other lines that contain these little quotes? Discuss.
  2. I had time to practice my french horn last summer. I kept it on the bus with me.
  3. Well, Dinkles look better than MTX when you try and wear them to formal functions in real life. :P
  4. That's why as a poor college kid, I couldn't afford to try out for Bluecoats as a backup corps. So if I don't make my first corps... I'm probably done for this year.
  5. At the first corps, they gave us charts, and you wrote your dot down off the chart. 2nd corps we had charts and coordinate sheets, but after the drill was learned, no one really used either. The best system I ever used was in high school with coordinate sheet only, and never dressing the form. No suprise that we learned drill faster and more accurately than either of those corps. After using charts, I've learned to hate them with a passion. But even more, is I hate when dots are "sprayed" on the ground as you learn the drill, which both of my corps did. You never learn the exact spot you're supposed to go to, you just rely on muscle memory, which will vary as the course of the season goes on. I refused to let someone spray my dot on the ground, and I chose to memorize it instead. I got sick of the heated arguments of me saying "I'm on my dot" and everyone else saying "get in the form". Even when we were "cleaning" drill, set by set. Charts yield little individual accountability. Man, I'm looking forward to next summer.
  6. I've done it the past 3 years. And yeah, if you have to miss a Dec. camp for corps X, don't tell them it's because you're auditioning for Corps Y. Nothing wrong with giving yourself options.
  7. In the info packet that the Cavaliers sent out, they said that member fees would be 100 dollars cheaper if they chose to go to Europe. Apparently it's cheaper than touring the US.
  8. I saw the show like 6 times over the summer. It took me about 3 viewings to get completly hooked on it. Yet, not one of those 6 times was even remotely close to what they pulled out on finals nights. That was just raw power and emotion, and I couldn't sit still. Hands down, my favorite Phantom show of all time. (and what a mellophone section)
  9. I remember a story my band director told, about how he was at some video store and asked for it, and instead the person mistakenly pulled up an adult film called "### Blasters" from behind the counter.
  10. Yeah, I think they were going to be at George Bush High School in the Houston Area, but they were cancelled for some reason.
  11. Denton, TX to Rosemont, IL = ~900 miles Houston, TX to New Jersey = ~1500 miles
  12. Well, I decided to chop away at my etude from back to front, learning 2-3 measures a day, and working on those measures to the end for about 30 minutes. It's working great so far, and I'm about 3/5 through it at a really high level. By the time auditions come around next month, I'll be solid.
  13. Man, that's like the complete opposite side of the spectrum. I don't think Sigur Ros would work too well, simply because it's... too simple. I think the music moves too slow, even for a ballad. But I do love the band.
  14. I'd rather see a Crossmen back in finals, than a Crossmen still in PA.
  15. From my experience, it's just a matter of adjusting the few sets going into the place where the music was cut, so that it can connect on to the drill following the cut music. Huge rewrites aren't always nescessary. It really depends on the situation.
  16. We claimed Madison for the greatest state ever. (frisbee dude is on the left, and I'm the tall guy)
  17. The only place I know of is wwbw.com, but they're out of stock until late October, and I need to start practicing for upcoming drum corps auditions. Anywhere else I could get one sooner?
  18. I left my old Mello 6 in a Crossmen mellophone case at a camp last year, and I never returned to retrieve it. The only place I know to purchase these from is wwbw.com, and they are out of stock until late October and I need to start practicing asap (we use frenchies at my school). Please send me an email at Aaronpowell2000@gmail.com if you can hook me up.
  19. One of my favorite memories of 2004 was doing the combined concert of us and Spirit's corps songs. Those Spirit kids rule.
