  1. I thought the time limit now was getting on and off the field in 18 minutes only. Theoretically, if you ran on and off the field the show itself could be almost 18 minutes. Is that true?
  2. Nothing. What I was saying is we can't just make the assumption that Blue Stars would have beaten Mandarins in drums, brass and guard. They haven't been judged by judges specific to those captions at the same show. And, the captions that Blue Stars did beat Mandarins, they were very close behind, so those could flip on any given night.
  3. We might be getting ahead of ourselves here. It's not out of the rhelm of possibility that the Mandarins would have beaten Blue Stars in Brass, Drums and Guard. They haven't been scored by those judges at the same show. The VP judge clearly stated that the Mandarins are on another level in that caption, so it's possible they would be in other non-judged captions as well.
  4. I don't really know how a partial panel impacts things, but from a historical perspective it doesn't seem to much. The only time I can think of when someone beat someone on a partial and never again was when Spirit beat Cavies in 2013. I thought, at the beginning of the season, Blue Stars were going to grab that 8th place spot. I still think their show is amazing and has so much potential. I thought the same thing with the Mandarins when I saw them at Stanford. It's going to be really interesting to see how these two, and Regiment, Crossmen, and BK, fare at the end of the season. It's been such a fun year. Happy for the Mandarins. That is a BIG accomplishment.
  5. Congrats Mandarins. That's a big deal. Loved them at Stanford. They have a killer show.
  6. Well, I don't think it's awful. Not by a long shot. How can it be awful with that hornline? For that reason alone I will always watch Crown. And, come on, even if they finish 6th that's a position a hell of a lot of groups would want to be in. I think it's frustrating because we expect so much out of Crown. I don't think Beast is up to the standards we've seen from Crown since pehaps 2007. I just think it has problems and I just don't get it. I don't understand the point of the white horns on the field when they do absolutely nothing with them, and why are they white? I don't get the point of the tetter-totter. I dont' get what lizard-like uniforms have to do with beast. If someone wants to elighten me, I am certainly open to it. When I think what "beast" means to be, I think loud, fast, aggressive, overpowering, terrifying, and awesome. I just don't get that nearly enough from this show. Again, I'm open to someone educating me on this, and perhaps I will see it in a new light afterwards, but for now I just don't get it, and I'm thinking the judges don't either. The fact that Bluecoats have steadily pulled away and their lead over BAC has completely evaporated doesn't bode well for Crown medalling. As of DCI Orlando, Crown is likely sitting in a tie for 5th place right now. Once groups start puling away and others start closing in, it's hard to reverse that. The reason people still think, like I do, that right now BD and SCV are the top 2 corps is because the only corps to beat BD is the 2017 runner up, and the only corps to beat SCV is the 2017 World Champion. Plus, BD hasn't finished outside of the top 2 since 2006. So, if you're BD that history bodes well for you, and if you're SCV it bodes very well for you. Until someone beats BD head-to-head I'm always going to think BD is ahead of them.
  7. True. We all love the same thing, and I think it's great. Sure is going to be sad next month when it is all over.
  8. Exactly. I have no hard feelings. We're all here because we share a common passion, and I only comment on the boards of corps I like the most.
  9. Crown IS one of my favorite corps, but I never said fire their whole design team. Unless you're BD you're not going to be nearly perfect every year. I comment on threads of corps I like, which is most of them these days. Vanguard is #1. 8th place or 1st, they will always be my #1.
  10. I don't want to fight with anyone. He's entitled to his/hers, I'm entitled to mine. The ignore button has been such a good friend to me since I've been here. More people need to use it and I need to use it more.
  11. I love it all. I just think how they fully incorporate the props into the visual production is great. They are just using them as framing tools, for example. I mean BD's prop - Jesus Christ, talk about taking cool to a new level. Last year I really started to love BD. They've become one of my favorites. It's like Star '93. It took me for ever to appreciate them. I'm finally appreciating BD. It's a good place to be.
  12. Dude, it's a discussion board. If you don't like what I have to say ABOUT CROWN'S SHOW then hit the ignore button. It's that simple. I haven't been negative about this corps all season. For the first couple weeks I said I felt this show was going to be like Inferno. Well it's not. I also countered someone who claimed their guard was so clean at the beginning of the season, because they weren't and they aren't. No one is. That's my opinion, and offering what I feel are the negatives about this show is not being negative or bashing them. If you don't like it - TOUGH! Hide me. **EDIT** I really wish I hadn't written this and had instead taken time to think before I responded. It would have been much gentler, less hostile and more mature. I don't need to be schooled by anyone on here, nor do I want to fight with anyone. The schooling I see on here just gets my goat. If you don't value what someone says ignore them. It is that simple. I do it all the time. I love Crown, and wish them the best, but I'll stand by my opinon of their show this year and where I think they are headed.
  13. Ok, "best designed" wasn't a good statement to make. When I saw Bluecoats for the first time in June 2016, I said to my friend I was with, "If they don't have any major execution problems they will win." Well, they did, and they won on design alone. Of course, they had the execution skills to back up the design, but Blue Devils and Crown had those execution skills as well in 2016. It came down to design - Bluecoats gave us something new and fresh. I feel the same way about Vanguard's show this year. It is so fresh, innovative, exciting, like nothing we've seen before, and there's so much going on without being destructive. It is a GE judges dream, IMO. When you're talking about the top groups they all have what it takes to put down a championship execution. Design takes it to another level. I think Vanguard has that other level this year, over anyone else I've seen, including BD. BD is just magnificant and I cannot image them placing lower than 2nd. The show just works so well, and of course the talent is there. You look back at years (2008, 2011, 2013, 2014, 2016 and 2017) and the champions differentiated themselves from the leading pack by giving us something new and exciting. In 2018, that's Vanguard IMO.
  14. The totally changed the closer last year musically and visually.
  15. There is a video of them playing the full closer at Stanford. A chunk is not on the field right now and it's the best chunk IMO so I hope that is planning on being added.
  16. To me they are killing it visually. I've watched videos of the show a few dozen times already and I always see something new. There is so much going on and it all works so well together. It's just so exciting, especially the guard book. I am not usually the biggest BD fan but I love their show this year too. Bay Area has the two best corps :)
  17. I LOVE SCV's uniforms. When I first saw them I was like WTF? Now I think they are just so cool, urban and different.
  18. I imagine a lot of the audience does not understand the story or concept of what anyone's doing this year. IMO it's gotten so out of control with concepts and storylines. I don't even bother learning what 90+% of shows are about. It's just not worth the time and energy. I did this year with SCV because the show is so #### cool I wanted to know more. To me, it is by far the best designed show of the year. It's exciting, fresh, innovative and we haven't seen it before. BD is great. They always are. I believe BD and SCV will be top 2 at finals. I hope to see SCV win since it's been so long. I do not believe at all Bluecoats are leading the pack. They are beating the current 5th and 6th place corps by 1.75 points. That's not an enormous margin. SCV and BD flip-flopped victories. SCV beat the 2017 Champion. Blue Devils beat the 2017 runner up. To me that carries a lot more weight than beating the corps that are 5th and 6th right now (and I don't care what anyone says, Cavaliers are ahead of both Crown and BAC right now). I think at season's end SCV, BD and Cavies will be the top 3.
  19. I agree with everything you said. When I watch Bluecoats and Crown today, I think this is the path Madison and Regiment should have taken. Nowadays, playing catch up doesn't seem to work - you have to be thinking about what comes next. SCV this year has out-modernized the modernizers. That's what staffs at these other corps need to be thinking.
  20. I too thought the same thing in 2014, but I enjoyed "OoTW" a lot more than I like "Beast." There's nothing "Beast" about this show that I can see. But we will see.
  21. I have the opposite opinion. I don't think Bluecoats show is that great. I think they are going to end up in 4th, behind Cavies, SCV and BD. I think SCV has the best designed show. It's innovative, fresh, exciting and something we haven't seen before. The top corps can all execute at championship level. I think SCV has the design that's going to appeal most to the judges and push them to 1st. I think BD is just too darn good to finish lower than 2nd, and I think Cavies have a killer show. I think right now BD and SCV would both beat Bluecoats head-to-head, which means Cavies are right there with Bloo. We'll see though. It's going to be an exciting finish.
  22. I agree. BD and SCV are the top two corps, and with Mandarins I am loving living in the Bay Area. Super exciting.
  23. I think Cavies are going to surprise people. I think the medals will be #1 SCV, #2 BD, #3 Cavies. At least right now. Until proven otherwise, I put BD above Bloo, which puts SCV above them, and Cavaliers above Crown/BAC based on spreads. I've been a fool too many times counting BD out :) It's been a fun season nonetheless and it's going to be fun to watch what happens down the stretch.
  24. Yeah, I get your point. I thought that show was pretty dull in the beginning of the season but by the end of the season it was my favorite Crown show ever. I think what the did in 2015 is a rarity now. It's going to be tough, but I don't know what they have planned. Not many changes, I see 6th. With changes, who knows?
