  1. And they're both angry with each other. Lol.
  2. I believe the judges would have to disgree. Lol. For what it's worth, I much prefer '88 over '89.
  3. I feel like I read a different account of things elsewhere, but who knows. Thank you for the post though, I love reading parts of what I would consider the history of modern drum corps.
  4. I honestly love Finale. I've tried Sibelius and Muse Score, and I just don't care for the layout or the pre-loaded sound fonts that they use. The only thing I don't like about Finale is their percussion sound fonts. Half of what they have listed doesn't have any sound to it, and half of what I want to use isn't listed even though they're pretty basic percussion. The battery notation also leaves a bit to be desired considering that half of what is labeled doesn't sound like what it's supposed to. I'd make my own sound font, but I honestly don't even know where to begin with that. I don't have any issues with the winds and strings though, most of those sound on point.
  5. A lot of the drill was complicated back in the 90s too with the run and gun and what I like to call "cookie cutter" drill (folding lines, something like the end of Crowns show this year, but I have no idea what the technical name is). I mean, I couldn't imagine writing Star of Indianas Cross to Cross on paper, which I believe I read somewhere at one point that it was written on a napkin? He really does seem so genuine and down to earth. I couldn't help but smile while watching that video. I may not have agreed with his work the last 2 years, but he has blown me away this year!
  6. Lol. I was born in the very beginning of the AOL era, so I'm pretty used to drill writing programs like Pyware, Envision, and Field Artist. I even found a super cheap one on the Mac App Store called Celestial Teapot for a grand total of $40. Pyware - $500 Envision - $450 Field Artist - $160 In comparison, it's not as flashy and is pretty basic, but for a college student wanting to dabble in the art of drill writing, it's great. Especially since Micro Marching doesn't use the actual measurements of a football field. Don't worry though, I remember writing music in high school with Finale Notepad on my Compaq desktop that weighed around 60 lbs and writing drill on my geometry graphing paper. I've since upgraded to Finale 25 and Celestial Teapot. I'd say those were simpler times, but it wasn't. Lol.
  7. I was thinking the same thing. He seems genuinely excited about the show and truly believes in it!
  8. I thought the audience wasn't supposed to be factored in? I mean, fan favorite isn't a caption...
  9. That actually really helped explain the concept! Last year it was kind of muddled when they tried to explain it, but this year it seems pretty cut and dry what they're trying to do!
  10. It was over by the apple orchards in the eastern part of the state in Chelan, Washington.
  11. Don't get me wrong, I think any time the Blue Devils place second it's a cause for celebration. 1. Blue Devils were knocked down. 2. A corps was strong enough to beat them. I have never been to finals, and I've only saw the video of Phantom and the Blue Devils from that year. ALTHOUGH, I have spoken to people who were there and said that the energy from the crowd fed the corps, and I've seen cases of this on multiple occasions not just in drum corps, but in marching band in general. If you're getting no feedback from the audience, you're gonna put on a lackluster performance. If the audience is eating you up, then you're gonna put on a hell of a performance. That being said, I stand by my post that the crowd won Phantom the championship. I'm not trying to take anything away from Phantom, but that's the way I see it.
  12. I'm not too worried about them being gassed out at the end of the show. Everyone is right now, and Crown has more on the field than some. Besides, the closer is so high energy in it's writing that even when they lose momentum the energy still shines through.
  13. I'm not being snarky, I'm speaking the truth. Lol. You harp on Crown so much I could never tell that you liked them.
  14. I mean, you could fool anyone with how much you harp on them. šŸ¤·
  15. I've always thought that Spartacus was overrated. The crowd is what won Phantom the championship that night. Take away the crowds enthusiasm and energy and you have a 4th place show.
  16. 1987 Vanguard 1988 Vanguard 1993 Star 2003 Cavaliers 2007 Cadets 2009 Crown 2010 Cavaliers 2012 Crown
  17. Which is why you come to the Crown thread, right? šŸ¤£
  18. With very little marching, what are the judges to judge but how the forms look? Thats how they are consistently top in Visual.
  19. I know, I heard Matt say that and was like "Uh oh, here we go. This is gonna be good." It's starting to show, but they need more of it. The good news is, there was a good crowd there, and they were VERY receptive to the show for just a rehearsal. That shows me that there is some promise once the uniforms are put on!
  20. Thanks for the heads up! I couldn't be there, but at least there's a video! šŸ˜
