  1. They are all the same. They are meant to look uniform. They mirror the show theme. They're thematic uniforms. End of story. #Next
  2. This. Year after year since Bluecoats decided to go all rogue in 2016. This thread might as well be nothing but CopyPasta.
  3. I've only seen the opener a week ago and there were no props, so I'm interested in seeing what they've added!
  4. Carolina Crown Santa Clara Vanguard Blue Devils Bluecoats Cavaliers Boston Crusaders Blue Knights Cadets Blue Stars Crossmen Mandarins Phantom Regiment The Academy Spirit of Atlanta Madison Scouts
  5. I'm already loving this show more than the last 2 combined, and I loved 2017 even with all its flaws. Crowns going to do some great things this summer!
  6. I feel like that's the same size as the Bass 5 we marched when I was in high school. It really doesn't look all that huge to me. If anything, Bass 1 looks smaller than a normal Bass 1. I'm also not a percussionist, so just ignore everything I just said. 🤣🤣🤣
  7. Have I developed dyslexia? I thought this was the Crown thread? It's certainly not the Phantom Regiment Memory Road thread...
  8. Yasss!!! My favorite schedule board is back!!!
  9. Then I guess you better turn around and walk away now, because like it or not pratically every show these days is dark and angry with a little sprinkle in between.
  10. I need information just as much as the next person, but what I have heard (which is very little at this point) it seems very promising. I just have to wait to see if my issues with design team have been fixed or not. I will say this, I'm loving what I'm hearing right now!
  11. Umm, I didn't say they had to medal either. Here's what it comes down to: The design staff needs to get their **** together to put a quality show on the field that one can enjoy from every aspect. While 2017 was cohesive, it did have its flaws and left people scratching their heads. Last year was even worse in that area. Also, if I were a "fair-weather" fan, I would've jumped ship last year, or 2014, or 2011, or I would've never became a fan of Crown at all because what won me over was an 8th place show. So please don't give me that bull.
  12. I'm not saying they have to win in order for me to keep supporting organization. Yes, 2017 medaled. I also didn't believe that there was a corps that was going to take that away from them. If last year is any inclination, Crown is a bit rocky (no pun intended). This year will be telling on how this design team is going to work together from here on out. Third times charm, right? This corps could medal or win with the talent they have, but it's going to come down on the design teams shoulders on how they do. I hope for the best, as Crown is and has been my favorite since 2006, but I'm not going to sugarcoat things to make myself feel better about this season either.
  13. Thats your opinion, and my opinion is that Sacktigs writing doesn't reflect what Crown has been trying to do for the past 2 years. As I said before, I'm giving it one more year. If it's not any better this year I'm not sure I can continue to support a team who can't work together and recognize their flaws.
  14. Agreed, hence sitting down together instead of in seperate offices behind emails. "Seeing what we're hearing" was the issue last year. We infact didn't see what we were hearing. We heard agressive music, but saw flowy drill. This was the point I was trying to make in the first place, too much contrast. It also happened in 2017 as well, but not to such a great extent as last year. Some of 2017 did actually work cohesively, which is more than I can say for 2018. Maybe Sacktig just doesn't do dark very well? Who knows, I just know I'm personally hoping for a better outcome this season. Otherwise I don't know how much longer I can continue to support this design staff.
  15. Thats not at all what I was talking about. Folks want to complain that music takes front seat in the Crown organization (specifically the brass writing). You say visual should come first, then music. What would happen then? This is what i meant by no section should come first, but rather should sit down together and round table discuss the options, ideas, etc. Then and ONLY then should a single note, stitch, dot, prop be placed. Cohesive, no divisive.
  16. Im not saying they need to talk on the phone or something, I'm saying before ANYTHING is done on either side, they need to sit down and round table the discussion. While music is versatile, sometimes its near impossible for a arranger to work with the visual designer to get a cohesive product on the field. Folks want to complain that one section reigns supreme over the other, so why not work together before anything is set anywhere?
  17. I disagree about visual staff leading, because then again you would be left with the visual team knowing what they want but the music team left scratching their heads. What needs to happen is they need to sit down and work together. "Heres what were envisioning..." "Okay, would this work with it?" Round table discussion design I think would work best. I'm not sure whats going on with the guard. In my opinion, they're still rebuilding. My only issues is even with the design team working together, I still don't think sacktigs writing works well with Kleschs arrangements.
  18. The drill was "pretty" and flowing. Honestly a more disgruntled, gritty, messy, and disconected drill package would have worked better. The most drill writing I've ever done is mess around on Micro Marching and the $40 program I bought from the App Store so I can't get down to specifics without sounding like an idiot, but to me the drill was too "symphonic" and too "pretty". I'm sure this makes absolutely zero sense though. Lol.
  19. Yes, I want progressive drill with a hint of traditional with the Crown set. A single set doesn't mean its not progressive. They're not as progressive as you would think, looking at the drill packages that surpassed them last year. Again, Sacktigs writing is very "symphonic" and I think its part of the reason their visual scores have suffered. Even if they marched as clean as they did in 2013/2016/2017, they still wouldn't have made it very far visually last year. The past two years have fallen flat drill wise in my opinion, and the visual design would have worked if the drill had conveyed what the design team was going for.
  20. I guess I'll be "boycotting" since they ripped away the one show I'm able to attend...not sure why since it always all but sold out, and since it seems DCI is money hungry these days... RIP NKY
  21. My biggest issue over the last 2 years has been the meshing of the music design with visual design, and what seems to me to be a somewhat "outdated" drill package. Music and visual will find a way to mesh (and ehen it does...😍😍😍), but the drill writing seems to be too symphonic rather than progressive, if that makes sense. Sacktig knows his stuff, but it just seems to be dated., and regardless of the drill writer PLEASE bring back the traditional Crown set. My heart aches not seeing it on the field anymore. Yeah, there are new crown sets, but its just not the same. It may not "fit the theme" as some people have argued, but curvy lines and boxes don't always fit themes either. Lol.
  22. Cleaner earlier doesn't exactly lead to winning later. It could also lead to peaking earlier. As karuna said, I also believe the design team is finally gelling. Cant speak for the visual aspect much yet, but it seems things are finally coming together again for Crown.
  23. No Kentucky show?! WHY?! The stadium is normally close to selling out! The one show I get to go to a year and there isn't one this year. GREAT! Just great. Thank you DCI...
