One of my concerns is that after corps start planning, it is determined that the event won't/can't happen. Planning takes money and to start now and get the ball rolling is still an expense. I'm sure there are some organizations who plan to attend who will be in much worse financial condition if the event is cancelled or so toned down that it generates no financial sense to continue.

DCI could also do with another Bill Cook.

2021 - Who's In and Who's out?

That's too bad. There are some sofas/couches that are built for social distancing. -

Thanks Found the following from ancient times here on DCP. Here is the show for those who are interested. It's an audio recording with associated show photos. -

Did Crunchy Frog originate from Lee Rudnicki? I think he was also associated with "Seven" or something like that. -

Listened to Madison Scouts '76 early season vs late season yesterday. All day I had the theme from Shaft going through my head - the earworm repeating over and over. To get rid of it I listened to Hotline Bling. Guess what was in my head this morning? I'm going to listen to "What Do You Do With a Drunken Sailor" now to get Hotline Bling out of my head. -

I don't know how accurate it is. Some of the other comments there are quite interesting.

Saw some commentary on FB DCP about bus requirements which will be a huge expense on it's own - 1 person per bench on a bus - max 26 members per bus?

I think there are significant differences between show styles when comparing '76 to '09. In addition, Phantom was still competing most of the time they were changing their show. There was no tour 1, break then tour 2 competition schedule as there was in '76. Edit: Just checked the show listings on fromthepressbox.com for '76 and Madison's last show at the beginning of the season July 3rd. The don't appear at another show on the listing until August 4th. I know that there are some shows that don't appear on the yearly contest results shown, but strangely enough there was also a show on July 31st in Madision, Wisconsin where they did not compete. -
So with all good intentions taken into account, how soon until these planned events unravel due to lack of participation?

I do appreciate the following statement: With considerable and unique challenges being faced by individual groups, often with widely differing state, regional and local public health requirements, each participating organization is encouraged to proceed in the best interest of their performers and their respective organizations—not only for 2021 but for the long-term as well.

Gutsy move in the opposite direction.... Phantom spending a good portion of 2009 rewriting their drill. I remember their early season performance before the rewrite started and think that had they kept most of the original drill they would have placed higher than 9th. Then again, if 2009 hadn't been the challenge it was I don't think they would have come out with something as good as 2010 and it's entrance from the tunnel opener. -

Was the contingency plan every used after that? That entire sequence in the show must have been thrilling to perform! -
To continue with the topic of drum corps... My city estimates that once the vaccine is distributed consumers will partake in "revenge spending" which will fuel local tourism after a very dismal year. I anticipate it won't just be tourism that will see revenge spending. Many other areas will see the same thing including entertainment. Perhaps this will lead to a successful DCI season in 2022 as fans return to the activity. One can only hope this is the case.

Here's some video of '69 Boston from VFW Nats clearly showing they aren't using bells. The soundtrack is from their show with the bells still in it so it's not from VFW Nats. Sorry that the sound and video are not in synch. -
