  1. Assuming the activity survives, I don't think there will be an area where A.I. won't have a place; judging, drill writing, music writing, teaching, literally everything.
  2. Nationals Squad (and 3rd baritones) notwithstanding, CYMBAL players used to be the place for the not as talented, or least experienced. Clearly not anymore! That girl's fall wasn't a big deal on the overall performance at all. I assume most of these young people march Drum Corps in the summer?
  3. Drum Corps + Nashville = Fun! Sign me up.
  4. Wow! Learn something new every day! I had assumed "WGI Winds" meant.......woodwind instruments only. I'm going to miss Drum Corps being performed on a football field.
  5. It was a tongue-in-cheek comment, but had any M&M judge witnessed someone tripping and falling under that system it would have been a penalty (tic/tick). I assume under the category of dropped or grounded equipment, but I don't know for sure as we never did either.
  6. If I only read Drum Corps Planet I would think SCV was like Lord of the Flies. I casually know one current marching member, a trumpet player whom I met because he works at my favorite Mexican food restaurant in Placenta CA (El Farolito). He's from Orange County, loves SCV, and was really looking forward to this year, which would have been his age-out. I've not seen him since the announcement and I feel awful for him. Yes, its anecdotal but I'm mentioning to perhaps provide a bit of balance.....?
  7. Looks like Giff Howarth shouldn't expect a Christmas card from RCC this year. How did a 7.2 penalty happen to that poor group from Texas? Someone didn't plug something in right resulting in a delay?
  8. Drum Corps has done a horrible job weeding those people out. One in particular is still celebrated.
  9. I have always found Drum Corps to be waaayyy ahead of society at-large in terms of both diversity-inclusion, and that was 50 years ago. We knew who the gay kids were and it didn't matter. Everyone obviously knew who the minority kids were too and that didn't matter either. And by equity, do you mean in the context of opportunity or results? I understand why you feel as you do. Drum Corps has been its own worst enemy, but I still believe it's a great activity for the young. Warts and all.
  10. I don't recall that, I just know we didn't do our best at VFW finals in 1971 and it was soooo hot I would have welcomed death. SCV deserved it that year, but not the next.
  11. Reggie Bush accepted payments from a wanna-be agent, and his parents free rent on a condo in San Diego. Matt Leinart had nothing to do with it & Pete Carroll was always going to return to the NFL where he's been for the past 13 years. You're unqualified to tell me what I can "honestly" have an opinion on. Right now I don't see any evidence of Santa Clara's "rampant cheating", "illegal payments", and "purposely bypassing the rules" (your words). They haven't submitting required audits, that's true, but I'm willing to give an icon corps a chance to explain why and make good before completely vilifying them as you do. This is a Drum Corps message board. If you want to argue more about my alma mater, meet over at fighton.com (I'm OCGreg).
  12. I don't see the parallel to those Trojan luminaries/USC Football and the Santa Clara Vanguard situation, but I do in the Anaheim Kingsmen. Fight On!
  13. As a mayor, I would imagine Lisa Gillmore's seat is ceremonial. Amy Lipshy, I don't know how long she's been there. I don't know either personally as they were there wayyy after me.
  14. Santa Clara was the clear favorite going into the 1972 season. However, they did a horrible show (by their standards) at Finals. It opened the door for us to win it.
  15. I'm going to say YES because they have two Trojans on their Board; Amy Lipshy (President) and Lisa Gillmore (Mayor of Santa Clara). We get things done.
  16. Hockey Dad, Both sections fall under the same statute (Title 11, Chapter 15 Admin of Supervision/Enforcement Fundraisers f/ Charitable Act CA). You approached me to say you saw no mention of a C&D. I pointed out and highlighted where the law does in 999.6 (a) 1 (from the beginning). And you're right. This has played out. God bless the Santa Clara Vanguard and those tying to make them whole.
  17. 999.6 (a) 1. (2) issue a cease and desist order against any person or entity for reasons specified in section 12591.1, subdivision (b), of the Government Code. Several pages back I apologized to the young Santa Clara alumna as I was wrong (snarky/rude), and she graciously accepted. I do change my position if I feel I'm wrong.
  18. It's clearly not a "winning strategy" to count on a COVID backlog. The easy thing to do would be to submit the required independent audits and pay a nominal fine. I quoted the statue already and I stand by my statement; unless they've received the C&D from the state they are not operating outside the law.
  19. No it does not. That webpage from the CA A.G. is a summary of what "delinquency" means and the consequences. Under Title 11 Law Division 1. CA Chapter 4, Sec. 314 (3) Regulations adopted pursuant to the Supervisor of Trustee's & Fundraiser for for Charitable Purposes Act states "Grounds for Issuance of Cease & Desist Order". SCV is considered "delinquent" by the CA A.G. However, there is still a legal procedure which includes receiving a C&D from the A.G. Until they get that they are still operating within the law, which includes soliciting donations (which they're doing). This is why I mentioned in an earlier post the state is backlogged due to COVID, which may buy them time to submit the past audits and make this all go away.
  20. Good morning. I already did that and if you or anyone else does not believe my opinion on the structure of VMAPA and it's current "delinquent" status - what it can/can't do, that's your choice. Yes, that was a snarky comment last night on my part to you and I do apologize for that.
