I don't get the best reads remotely from the desert here but I do remember thinking to myself, whoa yeah, they picked the right performer... assumed they were a guard member. 😉 If I peep a better read, I'll keep you updated.

Tears have already been reported because of this show, not just by me but on reddit too. That beats placement and scoring any day cause it means you touched audience's hearts. No other show has actually made me cry, not even close. This is why I hate that the activity still uses scoring to define itself. When SoA should be celebrating a triumphant return, the members are being understandably detracted by numbers. Continue to try to steer them away from this. Let the staff worry about placement. Let the members enjoy the show and time together so they can keep touching hearts. That's the real magic of the activity. Not stupid numbers.

Perhaps the folks talking about being carried haven't been in that position. It's largely about an unbalanced staff, so putting it on the members is kinda rough play. Sure there's some talent balancing among members, but that's not everything. Seriously, I loved being carried in the sense that I got to feel that constant glow coming off a champion line. But sadly, also had to live with the shame of not meeting that standard. It sucks cause members often take the blame. Hoping Cavies staff take that culpability and just let the members enjoy their summer. From what everyone's telling me, they are and that's beautiful. They so have nothing to be ashamed about.

Honestly watching one section from your corps kill it on your behalf is great. Even if you can't join them for any number of countless reasons that are probably out of your control as a member, you still take a bunch of pride in it. I lived vicariously through the 04 line and I was fine with it.

No way, they're doing it cause they can handle it already. One caption carrying a corps ain't so bad! ... says an old guard member who was def carried by an excellent drumline. In all seriousness, this is a staff issue, not a member issue IMHO.
