  1. Agreed, it isn't as strictly enforced. And call me an ###, but I full heartedly believe it should be if they go over while we are waiting because of technical difficulties.
  2. Truthfully, I think DCI has deviated away from timing in the most part. I believe its more you have this amount time from the moment you cross the line to the moment you leave the field. Shows starting before the announcement of the corps are pre-shows and are not judged. If you watch the contest coordinator, he will give a signal once judging has begun.
  3. In judging you walk a very fine line of not saying a designer's choice is right or wrong. We have to look at it in a way of do the design choices enhance what you are trying to tell us. No corps plays a straight tune anymore, they all deviate from the original source material. Particularly in GE, the judge has to decide given the choice of music and the design choice of arrangements, staging, effects, etc., is it portraying what you're trying to tell us overall.
  4. No. They do get lists of original repertoire and synopsis of the show that they are required to go through before judging, especially GE. Other than that, everything is judged in the moment.
  5. This is what happens as corps want to play newer music and todays artists are greedy. They’ve found ways to nickle and dime money out of people without actually having to work. (Sorry, I still believe in artists having to go out and tour to make money) That being said, there is simply no way DCI can keep up with licensure and fees. It’s way too time consuming and expensive.
  6. I'm just saying I'm not going to speculate until I see some evidence on this letter or corps complaining of issues. Honestly, if the reporter is direct quoting DCI I would suggest it's a poorly worded response from them. From what I've seen first hand he visited his daughter and was in the lot for one drumline and then was in the stands. ***EDIT** I do see the tweet from the reporter stating the attorney confirmed the letter, but that they are letting it go. I just truly don't think the recording and posting online is the way to go. It would open a rabbit hole in the activity that I don't truly think is a big deal. (Not saying he isn't a big deal just the overall act of recording a show and posting it since soooo many people do)
  7. Respectfully, I'm not suggesting to throw the hands up. I'm pointing out the fine line that exists for DCI in control of the Corps. So maybe the solution is to go to the individual Corps. Also, other than the tweets you have shared, I haven't seen the letter DCI sent. I can't know if it said for him to stop attending events. Also, I haven't seen any corps complain of him causing issues. And lastly, we really want to throw our hands up at "filming show and posting them online"? Half the stands would be empty if we banned every person that has done that.
  8. I'm just going to leave this here: Frankly, we are lucky enough to have any type of streaming at all. No, zip, zero, none, nothing, will ever compare to seeing a drum corps show live and honestly we need to stop expecting Flo to live up to that. Secondly, the marching arts is kind of a niche activity. It is not as big as baseball, football, basketball, etc etc etc. You can't expect FloSports to put tons of money into marching arts streaming when it's a niche market and they're only going to get so much money out of it.
  9. I've been avoiding putting in my two cents because frankly I didn't want the stress of it all. But, I've seen a lot of people talk about DCI not doing anything. I just want to bring back to light that DCI was founded because the Corps wanted to be in charge of themselves. Whether we agree or disagree with the current model, DCI has a fine line of control over the Corps. DCI is essentially solely in charge of the idea of a competition. Heck, even half the shows are run by the Corps themselves. Basically, what I'm getting at is maybe DCI can ban people from a DCI sanctioned event, but events that aren't technically run by DCI, I don't believe they would have control over. Whether one agrees or disagrees with the outcome, once probation is over, he becomes as free person again. As a collective, we can stop him from teaching in the activity, but I don't know if we can stop him from attending a paid ticketed event as a patron. And calling him out in public could lead to blowback and harassment issues. I'm sure there are a lot of you on here that would feel it's justified, but truly two wrongs don't make a right. I mean absolutely no disrespect in this post towards anyone. I just think we need to be clear minded, logical, and understand realities.
  10. When Boston did their Quixotic show in 2016, they had those giant windmill things. At an early season show in Pittsburgh, my friends and I were following Boston in the parking lot and each windmill was numbered in the back of them and we happened to be behind windmill number 12. Later that season at the Buffalo, NY show people were shouting names and especially one performer who had been local to the Buffalo area. I felt out of the loop so I stood up and screamed "Go windmill number 12!" It got quite the laughter from the crowd and a few smiles from the pit members on the field.
  11. This isn't the hypothetical offseason announcement I was thinking of... More likely a Cavaliers conspiracy theory to become reality.
  12. Definitely has to do with next year, but not so much it being about the show as it is about the Cavaliers' themselves.
  13. But for real, no legitimate guesses as to what the conspiracy is?
  14. While I understand the reason for the change, I think they could've definitely given Bluecoats a run for their money in GE in 2016 if they kept the old ending. It just worked better and was more impactful.
  15. To be fair, I still haven't figured out how Bluecoats took me on a trip without giving me something to actually have a trip. I'm still confused.
  16. So after rewatching a Cavaliers run from a week or so ago, I connected some dots and have a conspiracy theory about the Cavaliers. Clues are: “The time is now” “Now is the time” “Our time is now” Tons of brass licks referencing their 2011 XtroadinarY show Redoing the fight club with the same groove from 2002 And a voiceover before the ending that says “welcome to the final show”
