  1. retro uniforms yes, but you never see a baseball team playing with retro gloves, you know the ones with the 5 big fat fingers and a little leather patch between the thumb and forefinger. You tell the MLB players that on retro day they not only have to wear old uniform replicas but also have to use replicas of the old gloves and bats and see how many decide to go on strike.
  2. doesn't really matter what you programed, I would expect once the kids found out what they would be playing on you would have no members.
  3. and the actual donated amount is lower by about $2,200 since in a previous posting they stated they were able to sell off some unneeded equipment and that is part of the $10,500 raised if I understood correctly. so so the donated amount was only about $8,300 and if you divide that by the 134 you would see the average donation was about $62 which would mean only 25 people would need to make the current average donation to reach the $12,000 goal.
  4. 1988 Bluecoats right before the drum solo in Autumn Leaves. The soprano sextet is finishing up their part when the rifle line does a lay down toss. Well it was very windy that day and all of the rifles land out of reach of the members and bounce on the field. One of those rifles bounces up and smacks the left most soprano soloist in the side of the head while he is playing a high and loud note. You can see his helmet shift to the right and hear a little waiver in his note, but he keeps playing even though he was just whacked in the head. This can be seen on the video. and one from 1987 which most people probably wouldn't notice. right after one of the first horn hits in Autumn Leaves the bass line leans back and plays a triplet run that goes 1-2-1-2-4-3-2-1, Well it looks kinda funny how we lean back and are featured but the bottom two guys dont actually play anything. So they started air drumming to make it look like they play after 4 so it looks like the part goes 1-2-1-2-4-3(5)-2(6)-1. This can also be seen on the video.
  5. happens all the time when staff from upper corps will write for lower corps also. Even happens occasionally for members too in 1990 Amy Putnam, Marimba Player for Bluecoats, also wrote the Pit parts for Limited Edition.
  6. That's a classic ripped right from the Bridgemen's 1980 show I believe (they could have used it in other's as well). Good nods to classic Bridgemen visuals all throughout that show.
  7. In addition each year the corps crowns the top female and top male member of the corps. they get the title Miss Bush, & Mr. Wacker.
  8. In this same vein in 1994 Phantom Regiment the 4 tenor players slip behind the pit on the field and put down their drums, they then all pick up baritones and move through the drill unnoticed to the other side of the field where they slip behind a prop and pick up the wooden tenors. They then play those wood tenors and finish the section back over by the pit where they hold up the tenors to show they are solid wood then duck back down behind the pit and pick up their real tenors.
  9. I hope this all works out, but pulling in visual designers from a corps who they didn't get above 9th place and who placed below Bloo each year doesn't scream 'this is a step up' to me.
  10. If you could figure out a way to open a Casino (full table games & Slots) and have the corps funded solely by this casino you would never have to worry about money problems.
  11. I believe Glassmen still run their Bingo games and their annual Monte Carlo Night at their G-East Hall in Toledo.
  12. I'm not sure how much it brings in per year, but the Bluecoats have a healthy bingo operation which they run out of their new building in Canton.
  13. lots of corps have performed original works - as a matter of fact the middle tune "Ritual" in the Bluecoats show was written by Thrower and Rarick who are the corps brass and percussion writers. Also one of the pieces in their 2010 show was written by thrower as well.
  14. Actually lots of operas are performed with an updated or modern twist to them.
  15. Here were some options I saw a few years back by the guy who ended up designing their new uniform.
  16. a good bit of that stuff at the beginning was during pre-show an not during the actual show.
  17. actually I think your assumption that 2012 drum corps and 1975 drum look nothing alike. they are both groups marching on a field playing brass instruments, drums, and with other members using flags, rifles, sabres etc. There are also tympani, and mallet keyboard percussion instruments. there are differences yes, but at the heart the basic elements are the same.
  18. thought their show was kinda interesting and well done.
  19. the Bluecoats Corps Director told me yesterday that they had 47 not 52 age outs.
  20. yeah but sorry to hear they will be reviving their El Relampago show.
  21. in 1988 the bluecoats went pretty shaggy with the long hair and beards/unshaven look on most of the guys. in 1989 the corps implemented a clean shaven or cleanly groomed beard/mustache and short hair/hairnets under the helmets.
  22. And she is hot to boot. Love her on true blood and it's cool that she is a drum corps nut like the rest of us.
  23. I'm confused by your comment that crown nearly won with their triple crown show. In what universe is 6th place early winning?
