I just created this room, out of curiosity. It might be a good alternative. No downloading AIM required, runs right in your browser. Feel free to give it a try.

I certainly have heard of people losing their jobs. I haven't heard of anyone losing their spot in a corps.
If these incidents are true, are these organizations writing something in their contracts stating that posting on social media is grounds for removal from the corps?
You are claiming these incidents happened mid-season. What did the person in your corps post that got him sent home?
And what should or shouldn't be out here? It's drum corps. Not a classified branch of the US government.
I'm calling shenanigans on this, sorry. I honestly doubt that has ever happened, especially right before finals.
Even if it has, I doubt it's "many". Maybe one?
So, if the decline started sometime before the early 90s, Bbs, amps, and electronics can not be pointed at as the problem. So what led to the declining numbers back then?
The decline of the activity in the past several years has much more to do with the economy rather than the instrumentation on the field, in my opinion.
St. John's used to have a tradition that during the final run through of the season, all male members of the corps had to wear dresses.
I have photos. And they are not pretty.
EDIT: Here's one.
