  1. I'm not affiliated with The Cadets (or any other corps) but I was involved in the activity around the time in question. I don't think this was an isolated incident, and certainly not limited to The Cadets. I don't mean this as a justification by any means, but it was a different time and the organizations simply weren't governed by the same standards of today. Similarly, insurance: Today, most organizations would be pretty well covered if something happened. Did they have that in 1982, beyond what was legally mandated (i.e. vehicles and the like?) I'd be surprised. Those corps didn't have million dollar budgets back in the day. Many didn't even have professional management. If the corps had a staff of attorneys, they could probably find their way out of this jam. But their current insurance carrier isn't going to pick that up and defending a suit would probably run well into the 6 figures, at least. Knowing all this, rather than settle for something that would allow the corps to live on, the plaintiff opted to tank it. It's unfortunate but perhaps inevitable (given everything else that's come out, does anyone think this was an isolated incident?)
  2. I know it's going to sound like I hate America but please, make this stop! Bring on the Marines.
  3. I've seen shows held while electronic glitches get worked out. Has something changed or did it occur after they started their run?
  4. This. I'm not entirely anti-electronics, I just prefer it not be the central part of the show. That said, I feel terrible for Spirit but congratulations to them for overcoming the adversity. They'll laugh about it in 20 years 🙂
  5. I know they have a job to do but management needs to let them know this isn't a Taylor Swift concert. Ditto for mid-show seating etc.
  6. That's correct. I've seen scores announced a bit after 11 (I think it was a USBands show?) but no performances. Unless they cut INT I can't see how they fit Cascades.
  7. A friend at the show told me he loved it. Just lost something in the TV translation I guess
  8. I seem to recall JBC has an 11:00 curfew. There's a big retirement community next door and I'm not sure they're all DCI fans. It's funny, the community is a client of mine. First meeting, they asked if I found the place OK. I responded that I've been going to the stadium since I was a HS sophomore 😆
  9. My video is crap tonight. Thought it was just me (though other shows have been excellent.)
  10. That's when the football teams take the field. 😄
  11. It's all about the Benjamins. MB Stadium is probably several times more costly than this place. But geez, can't they use GT's stadium at least?
  12. Maybe it's a stadium lighting or a Flo thing but the Cavies look washed out on the wider camera angles. Not a reflection on the performance, just that it looked almost black and white at certain angles.
  13. There is a guy who announces (or used to, at least) the Cadets/US Bands shows. Really great voice, I think he actually worked on SXM. But there are some people who are just identified with an organization. Brandt is our version of the late Bob Sheppard of the Yankees: An icon. He should be allowed to stay on in a meaningful (perhaps reduced) capacity, even if Damp takes over primary announcing duties at some point. After all, it's a long day/weekend and Brandt is not 40 anymore. No wonder he's sounding fatigued. Someone mentioned him reading the scores...if he's amenable to that WHEN THE TIME COMES, having just read he's not retiring, it's a great idea. Unrelated aside: They mentioned that he's announced all 50 (well, 49) Finals. I thought there was a reason he missed Montreal. At least I recall a guy with a Quebecois accent saying "You may take the field for competition" on the recordings.
  14. Finals week coverage, while webcasted on Flo, is handled by Tom Blair and his team. They've been doing it for untold years and they have a bunch more cameras etc. at their disposal. So the production quality was there. There seemed to be some bandwidth/compression issues early on Friday and Bluecoats had major audio issues on Thursday night. Whose fault that is, who knows? Finals were almost perfect in terms of production and transmission quality. I might have had pixellation once in the entire show.
  15. I'd agree, and I already voted Boston Most Entertaining. I just think they had a better run last night.
  16. When Boston sang Con Te Partiro...just before the age of amps. Don't recall the year. But yeah, aside from that, nada.
