  1. For years I thought the last RCA Champs was 1977. Then found out out seven corps went to Niagra Falls and that was it. Thought the smaller corps died out but the 1978 RCA Champs had corps that lasted a few more years and some didn't become DCA members. Yeah good question.... I have same questions on ICA (International Corps Assoc) the lasted only a few years in the mid 80s. Only reason to remember ICA anymore was it was had Empire Statesmen and Steel City as members during their early years. Oh crap.... I just realized I competed at DCA, RCA and ICA Championships during my "career".
  2. And every weekend from Memorial Day to Labor Day for us. Season started with Mount Carmel/Danville exhibition until DCA. Lot of times someone tries to compare number of Sr corps between the 70s and today by using DCA Prelims counts. Have to remind them lot of corps went to RCA the weekend before then stayed home Labor Day.
  3. 'Zactly... Few weeks ago Loris was just a name in History of Drum Corps book to me. Now I find the group was one of the more unique corps ever created.
  4. Where's the latest Alumni list Gary? Thought it was going to be the usual 10 corps but Guelphs name keeps popping up when I talk to people.
  5. Dan as a fellow East Jr High band alumni (I was a year behind you :P), I'm posting this in a non-angry manner. I've looked at your posts on this thread and most of what I see are insults to people including myself. At this point I'm not even sure what position you are talking about. But by your (apparant) standards I'm a Non-Drum Corps Fan/non-decent civil minded/RAMD cesspool buddy anyway.
  6. Tell me about it. After looking at the 1977 scores I see Westshoremen beat Erie by two points at Prelims and lost to them by THREE points at Finals. First time we made Finals since 1970 so sure we left the better show on the Prelims field. Wonder if the T-Birds had a horrible Prelims and bounced back too. Totally forgot we came in 9th at Prelims...... Oh wow, just saw Southwind in the Prelims scores. They competed as the Yankee Rebels during the year so they would be able to compete at DCA shows as a full DCA member.
  7. Cool.. <writing reminder to start 2007 Memorial Day Parade thread on both Foums next year> What about 4th of July parades or does the touring season interfere? (Man am I out of touch with Jr corps today. )
  8. Here you go, sad part is only All Age and Alumni listed. Any Jrs do this anymore? http://www.drumcorpsplanet.com/forums//ind...topic=78639&hl=
  9. Hey you know the state, err commonwealth of PA only allows so many liquor licnses per county. Years ago my sister went to an auction at a restuarant/bar in the Burg that closed. Half the people there were bidding on the liquor license. Then someone looked out the window and said "OH #### HERE COMES THE G-MAN GUY!!!". Place cleared out REAL fast.... But the one on the Pike by the base would be perfect for a Dos stop. :)
  10. Can you say which one? Anyone walking around in those costumes has to be as nuts as us coprs people in parades. :P
  11. Did bunch o' RCA shows in 75-77 until Westshore got good enough for DCA membership. 1976 season almost all I saw was Hanover Lancers, Johnsonburg Diplomats and Hershey Chocolatier/York White Roses (merger corps). Hear Hersheys show so many times I can still play part of it in my head. Hershey came in last place every show in '76 until RCA Champs when they knocked off the Imperial Knights. 1977 was bunch of shows with Hanover and Johnsonburg except this time we were winning. Conversation from mid 1977 when we were doing both circuits: New corps member (NCM): Who are we competing against this weekend? Larry Hershman (LH): We're up against .. <list of DCA corps who royally kicked our butts> NCM: We're going to come in last!!! Why aren't we doing a RCA show we can win? LH (######): Because we can make more money coming in last at a DCA show than comng in first at an RCA show.
  12. LOL as El Rodeo is now a freaking chain in Central PA. Think the orignal was Colonial Park (few blocks from my folks old house) now there are two on the West Shore (one a mile from my current house :) in a converted Mr Donuts ). Man they even put one in Hanover not too long ago.
  13. I always pitied the poor slob who had to carry the sting bass. Was going to post this earlier but might have been flame bait so I waited. Just get the feeling that if I don't agree with everything going on in DC today, some people think I should sit outside the stadium in sack cloth and ashes screaming "UNCLEAN, UNCLEAN"....... :ramd: (Heh - just realized the name of the soapbox icon... :P :P :P )
  14. And Pagliacci was the song that finally knocked out Flamingo as Cabs after concert number. Think Flamingo was played since 1960..... Anyone else remember the old Rice Krispies commercial during this time that used Pagliacci. "No more Rice Krispies. We are out of Rice Krispies. No more snap.. crackle... pop". We used to sing it to ourselves when the Cabs were playing this on the field. ^0^ (don;t worry, they still waxed our sorry butts. :P )
  15. And what Drum Corps group gets to decide "What is Drum Corps"? Agree with Mistertoo on DCI, DCA, Alumnis all being "Drum Corps" but different in so many ways. To that I add Div II/III corps which are so different from the major touring outfits of what Div I shoots for.
  16. Had a cop threaten to arrest half the horn line in Johnsonburg one year. We were sitting on the curb with our feet on the street. Cop rolls up and in a sarcastic voice says "Hate to have anyone run over, you better move" then drives off. We take our time and about a minute later he rolls up and yells "I said MOVE IT!!!" and takes off again. He drove to the end of the block and did a U turn. By the time he got back we were gone......
  17. What if you don't find it entertaining anymore like I did in 1993 and walked away for 10 year? s/ Another RAMD member...... PS - abefore anyone slams, read the History of DC book for 1993. It's called the "Year of Audience Discontent" and I wasn't the only one who went home.
  18. And marching saxes sound great . . . . . . . with banjos, accordians, string basses (Mummers Band)
  19. Eh, you were probably taller at 11 than I was at 16 when I joined my first (Sr) corps. :P
  20. So far no sops or contras (OK, OK trumpets and tubas ) except for one near miss. All mellis and baris.... intersting and thanks for the responses so far. Also interesting that the WWs to brass stories all seem to be occuring in the last few years. Can't remember anything like that in my day but then I didn't have much contact with Jr corps members.
  21. And "they" meaning your corps brass staff...... Have seen a number of posts from people who played woodwinds or other non-brass instruments before they joined a corps horn line. Would like to find out what instrument you first played and what horn you have/had in corps. Also how was it determined which corps horn to play and who decided, you or corps staff?.
  22. Keith - from two years ago...... http://www.drumcorpsplanet.com/forums//ind...topic=28989&hl= I'll also add that DCW is selling some of the RCA Championships records as Ken gets time to work on 'em. (Ooops - remind self to check DCW website....)
  23. Always cool to hear what is going on today, thanks..... In the '70s we had the equivilant of two valves but it was piston (valve 1) and rotor (value 2). Think for most people who played a valved brass instrument in MB the biggest hurdle was learning to get the thumbs working instead of fingers. But what helped being in a Senior corps was that we had all winter to get used to the instruments.
  24. Only there once since the changes but what I remember they knocked down the visitor stands, rebuilt 'em and made that the home side of the field. Actually building constructed for locker rooms for the sports (eh!) teams. Put in that spongy crap track stuff in, instead of the dust creatin' cinders. Redid the lighting system because knocking down the visitors stand wiped out the lights. Remember the b-wording about the cost more than anything else. Bad news is the parking still sucks royally. Can't remember if better drainage or astroturf put in. Wally was an innocent bystander (for once :P ) in a one day feud between me and some of the CD band parents. Last ever band competition my sister was in we all trecked down to Westminster, MD. CV was on before CD and I yelled some things to my ex-corps mates working CV band. Band parent in front of me turns around and with a look that could cut glass says "You should cheer for YOUR band". My growled reponse was "I cheer for MY friends. Don't worry when CD comes out I'll cheer." Rest of the day I was picking out DC folks on different bands staff (pissing off the same band parents in the process). Toward the end of the long day Trinity was on and here comes Wally up the stands to watch the show. Wally sees an empty seat next to my paranets and me and asks to sit there. We all say "Hi Wally, yeah sit" and the band parents in front look like they just crapped a brick. Great way to end my sisters time in competition.
