  1. DCI's championships have been in August since the creation of DCI, correct? And the audience manages to get the time off work to attend, correct? Now with a very large portion of the members of DCA corps being of school age it isn't as crucial to have championships on a long weekend. When it was an 'adult' activity it was better because adults could participate with only losing one or two vacation days. At least that is my understanding of it, please correct me if I am wrong. I personally do not like the idea of a completely anticlimactic championship which I believe you would have if championships were held 4th of July week (sorry, since it is so rarely on a weekend, I can't see touting it as the same). Many guards are rarely in full swing prior to Clifton (that was always the do or die point - have the show finished by Clifton). I can't say the drill or music is anything close to what you would hear 6-7 weeks later either. I, personally, would have no interest in investing in a ticket for championships held that early. Championship tickets aren't cheap, and you are paying to see who has the best show at the END of the season. I understand people like NASCAR, but I don't see why anyone who participates in an activity that thrives on improvement and changes would compare itself to a 'sport' where people don't really change or improve a thing. A car goes in the same direction for multiple times and all that changes is speed and participants. There isn't a learning curve. There is no way you can compare what one does to the other, including the crowds that come to one, as it is a nationally televised 'sport'.
  2. Because the 4th of July isn't always a weekend, but more times than not a week day.
  3. I am sorry but a broken elevator is far more serious than some whiny people - if they don't have a second one for customers to use there will be a far larger legal issue on their hands.
  4. One Gateway Center in Newark on the 25th floor. The east side of the building looks out and down on the stadium I will offer a slight correction to your point of there is nothing to eat nearby the stadium. They have opened a bunch of shoppes at the end of their big lawns (or what should be lawns) down on Jackson. There is a 5 Guys and a bunch of other things there. And there is construction well under way of a huge 6 story building down there as well. Looks like the first floor would be retail and the 2-6 would be residential. That said, there is no real place for warm ups even nearby with all the construction going on. I&E's would have to be inside the stadium. Hotels are very expensive and with school starting that following week, I am not sure what types of rehearsal locations you would be able to come up with, if at all. The schools that have 2 (or more) fields to rehearse on are rather scarce in this area from what I have seen.
  5. Great stadium, yes. Great area to have championships in, no. Absolutely unequivocally NO. *I can see the stadium from my office ~ trust me on this one please ~ I really know what I am speaking of*
  6. that is really sad ~ 10 years old and a mess already.
  7. It has been a while since I have been up there. Look forward to returning to my old haunts.
  8. Nice Queen work in there Jeff....Hope the rumor has no legs to it though.
  9. The term is an accurate description. It isn't pretentious. You may find it to be so because you don't agree with it and that is your right, but there is no need to put anyone else down in the process.
  10. My ex-husband said something to me about them being very small as well. 3 or 4 drummers. Hoping that improves as we get out of the winter percussion season and into the Spring.
  11. When this was discussed on the FaceBook version of DCp, when i brought up doing things other than drum corps that weekend people seemed insulted with things like why would you go to it if you wanted to do something other than drum corps. Thus why I thoroughly enjoyed Annapolis much better than Rochester. I don't feel the need to spend every moment of the weekend immersed in the activity, and haven't for a very long time. While it would be nice to take that idea of having the runner-ups host a regional, what I am still curious about is who were the runner-ups? No one has made that known as far as I have seen.
  12. Long term forecast for that Jersey City parade is 48 and sunny, which is about 40 degrees warmer than it was a couple of weeks before.
  13. so is it that if a member says on social media that they can't believe the score they got and they got screwed and f the judges, that that member shouldn't be believed? or is it the organization that bills itself on social media as a top-rated group with a world class level of educators, yet habitually comes in last, that shouldn't be believed?
  14. But when an organization does not give any level of importance to placement they also need to rethink their priorities and purpose. Yes, there can only be one group in first place (though that would be an erroneous statement of course if there was a tie), but placement is a very important part of every competitive organization, without placement they exist, but IMO they are not competitive. I don't believe in the everyone should get a medal just for showing up school of thought. I also don't believe that members join a competitive organization to never have the chance to be competitive.
  15. Incorrect. DCA has usually held shows the same weekend as DCI championships and rarely had not held one - usually due to the locality of the show. The East Prov show being the only example in recent times I can recall (and is 10 years ago really recent?)
  16. yes, the turf field is in ~ school/city had a been spectacular opening of the new field in fact
  17. Even if it wasn't a sell out, looking at the Muchachos listing of who is attending there are more than just one single group who is historically at the Bucs show. Considering how few indoor shows there are these days I would have thought there would have been some consideration of dates so there wasn't an overlap. But that's just me. There may be a method to the madness as they say.
  18. Interesting. I had figured with Fusion doing their first performance of their show for the season that would have brought in some followers of theirs, as well as DCA competitive corps in general.
  19. Having the Bucaneers show and the Muchachos show on the same date is May is going to cut into both audiences I would think. I'm really hoping that was an oversight.
  20. the reservations are not made - BUT if I hear the term "wintery mix" again today I am going to beat something to a bloody pulp!
  21. I thought WOW stood for Whip 'em Out Wednesdays. Yes. Old time Opie and Anthony fan. But I have no clue what some of that means at all. BTW I have, World of Warcraft I know from my son. SOAB? Is that like Soap? The TV show with Billy Crystal? You are all giggling. I'm clueless.
  22. I admit sometimes I type fast - trying to enter something while something copies or prints. Since you seem to follow what I write so carefully you will note I start off usually far better than I end because I'm out of time. But yes I am bothered by most abreviations. WTH or WTF being the only ones I really use because of the last word. I am the only person who puts Docket Number: on something here instead of Docket No. Who came up with that No. for number?!?!
  23. I said it was one of those terms that makes me gag, not the action or presentation. If you had asked why instead of assuming you already knew I hate the abbreviation of the term. Just like YOLO and other terms that completely disregard what it really is. YOLO is an expression of stupidity for the most part. If you are honoring the American flag use the full term, color presentation or longer terminology which I feel is more correct in nature, presentation of the colors. SSB instead of typing out Star Spangled Banner is another term that I find disrespectful. And while I do not feel it belongs in each and every show as some do, I do think when we talk about the American flag we should be respectful. Just a bugaboo of mine.
