When will Crown pass the Cadets?
GregZ replied to relmquist's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
For some of us, there is never too much old school. Unfortunately, we are in the minority. -
Holy Name Cadets -- Dublin, OH
GregZ replied to Fan of the Arts's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
Crown not going anywhere for now? Huh? I must have dreamt what I saw and heard last night, then. -
Hop mentioned on his blog that the show was delayed 20 minutes due to hash mark issues and "brutal parking". He also added that he had nothing to do with it....just to cover his butt, I guess. Anyway, Crown was just plain incredible and the crowd just loved them. The judges, well......they have Cadets under a point higher. So far.

When will Crown pass the Cadets?
GregZ replied to relmquist's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
I saw Crown last night at the Baldwin (Pittsburgh area) and from what I saw & heard, Crown should have passed Cadets from the get go. The judges don't see it that way, yet, though. Just my 2 cents. -

No Pittsburgh DCI shows this year
GregZ replied to GregZ's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
I hope it was a blip, but time will tell. There were many more corps in SWPA than that, but that goes back further. Also, there were other shows in SWPA, such as in Jeannette and at Hempfield Area but that was maybe 20 years ago. Most were one timers, with the exceptions of NA/Baldwin and Elizabeth-Forward. Thanks for the info. -

2008: Worst Drum Corps Year Ever?
GregZ replied to ctrain08's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
Just an opinion from a person who has avidly been a drum corps fan for over 40 years.....you hit the nail right smack on the head. It's high five time. The main issue here is that too many think everything is great and to a lot of us, that is not true. Is it worth it anymore for a lot of us to take our valuable time and spend our money on today's DCI corps? Especially when there are no shows within a three hour drive? My hope is that somebody, make that a lot of somebodies, wake up before they make things worse. Keep in mind that for most of us veteran drum corps observers with tons of experience are disgusted with the new way things are going on the field. I don't see it getting any better in the future so I might as well deal with it and aim my interests in another direction. If DCI does not care, then why should I???? -
"Discuss"? The problem with discussing this is that the old crowd knows what drum corps used to be. The new crowd has no clue what drum corps used to be. So the new crowd, who in no way can relate, blasts the old crowd. It's not exactly a pleasure to read some of that smack. Talk about dissension, wow.

I Still Get Goosebumps From....

I still get goosebumps just thinking about corps back in the day.....how times have changed and I better say no more. -
No Pittsburgh DCI shows this year
GregZ replied to GregZ's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
Thanks for the info and Post-Gazette link. I missed the other thread asking the same question...sorry. It just seemed strange that both shows were dropped. Baldwin always had great attendance, which lead me to believe that they would be on the schedule. I was not aware that there are no shows in Iowa and Port Huron. The bad news is that the closest show to Pgh is now approximately a three hour drive, which I will not do. The good news is that I will not be spending money, which can now be aimed in another direction. I know that having a show is very expensive and takes a lot of work. Maybe it was no longer worth it for Baldwin and Elizabeth-Forward. Does that mean that Southwestern PA is now a drum corps desert? -
What Happens if the Cadets win?
GregZ replied to music4278's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
Oh wait....Hop can go to Marching Band Planet and post his "told ya so's" on there? -
I imagine this question might have been asked previously. I have not lurked in here for months, months and more months so I would have missed it. There have been two DCI shows in the Pittsburgh area in recent years. This year there are none and I am just curious as to why.

Hopkins can then narrate his acceptance speech.....sigh. -
Wayta go Jeff. Another former Rocket is with you on this one, my friend.

I just mainly lurk around here after being subjected to some rather nasty, harsh and arrogant comments from someone on the left coast a while back, but I have wished I lived closer to Hawthorne for years. I still remember being in a restaurant after a show in Carlisle, PA and the Costellos were there. I saw a Cabs jacket and said how nice they were and Mrs. Costello (I'm 97.75% sure it was her), said something like "Well, join Hawthorne and you can have one". It might sound stupid, but I never forgot that moment for whatever reason. The thing was , at the time I did not know much about the Costellos nor what they looked like. I found out later. .....Rrrrump.....rrrump.....rrrump.........rrrrrrrrrrrrrrump rump............rump.......rump. And to think some people go for picnic tables, singing, narration and amps........I will take the Cabs over anyone, anywhere. I won't even begin to express myself about Cabs Alumni...I'd need all night, LOL . Best wishes to all. Greg

Can amps be removed????How about the stupid narrations? Can we actually hear drum corps? Real drum corps, I mean. -
DCI Attendance Figures Announced
GregZ replied to Tom Brace's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
Good point, Tom. They just don't get it, do they. I think the question everyone needs to ask themelves is "How many corps did I REALLY enjoy?". For me, it gets less and less every year. Darn. -
Cadets better than Phaustom???? You can't be serious.
-
It sure doesn't seem like it. Maybe someone should bop Hop over the head with an amp or picnic table, Very lightly, of course. Then again, when they drop it makes room for someone, welllllllllll...more like drum corps instead of BOA. Oops.

Amplification catching on in marching band world
GregZ replied to cavaliers2287's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
What would Yogi Berra say??? Something like "The more things change, the more they are different"? All I can say is....I miss drum corps the way it was. You can have your amps, your dancing, your picnic tables and all the other "Let's be BOA" things.....Give me an in-your-face- corps and I will show you an actual drum corps. Yes, I know.....the good ol' days are gone. -
Live from the pressbox! DCI FINALS
GregZ replied to dugada's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions

It's sooooo amateur and frustrating. It's all about a shower and bed for me now. I will just have to see how badly BD and Phaustom got screwed tomorrow. -

GregZ replied to dugada's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
I sure wish I knew where all you people are hearing/seeing all that's been mentioned. Can't get in anywhere so I guess I'm not looking in the right places. I give up.......before DCI turns me off even more.
