  1. The St. Francis Xavier Sancians will return as a world class corps and dominate one and all. Just kidding folks. A little early evening humor.
  2. Leland, of course you know who I am! We sat next to eachother on the bus in '92. We had numerous b**** sessions about relationships.
  3. '89: "Blue Stars: coolest & friendliest corps that year." **wink, wink. smile, smile** Here's to my comrades in the '92 bassline! Lesson learned from 1992: long distance relationships are dangerous!
  4. Trust me, I KNOW that image is not the Blue Star Cadets from 1983. After '82, the Blue Stars and Guardsmen had fully functioning cadet corps that carried on until they became the "A" corps again. They ran a story on the Guardsmen and Blue Stars in a 1986 issue of Drum Corps World. Again, that image may not be the Guardsmen cadets, as that's a large number of individuals on the field.
  5. I can tell you for an honest fact, that image is NOT the Blue Star Cadets. The BSC were a CCI unit that year. Judging from the looks of that image, and the show that image was taken at, I'm willing to think that might be the Guardsmen. The members look very, very young. I know the Guardsmen Cadets were out during that time, too; but that unit looks pretty big for a cadet corps; even by '80s standards. The only corps, from the '80s that I can remember cranking out huge cadet corps were the Phantom Regiment Cadets.
  6. This thread struck my interest. In regards to uniform "change," I think it's those that had minor, moderate, or little tinkering/alterations here and there were and are far more respectable than those with radical, space age, and those that claim to be for "arts" sake (do me a f***ing favor). Those that have done quite well with their slight changes have been SCV, Spirit (minus the '88 and '89 years), Boston Crusaders, Garfied (CofBC, Cadets, or whatever the bloody hell else you want to call them), and the list goes on. Some corps that "think" they are on the right path with radical change not only chase away alumni; but they do little in the way of member retention and possible recruiting. The only two corps that I have seen do well with radical uniform changes were the Velvet Knights and Star of Indiana; however, they were also theme corps, so there is the answer.
  7. Bent knee or not, the logo the Blue Stars have was well created. Kudos to the designer. Remember the mid-90s sci-fi flick with Charlie Sheen-"The Arrival" Now THOSE were some bent knees!
  8. "sophmore effort"...please. Why is it whenever a corps becomes open class or, as in the case of the Blue Stars, returns to open class, there is this pessimistic vibe that surfaces from the "no-it-alls" of this fantasy land known as Drum Corps Planet? Some of you sound like your sounding their death sentence if they don't make the top 12. From what I've read about the Blue Stars program for 2007, they should be just fine regardless of making the Saturday show or not. This should be a show that folks might want to catch on Thursday as well as Friday.
  9. Gotta give it up for the pre-season polls. Repetoires and programs are beginning to unfold, placements from last year are being revisited, biased mentality for or against corps takes precident most of the time...ahhhhh, aren't drum corps forums bliss? Some of you take this poll mumbo-jumbo waaaaaay too seriously.
  10. It's also quite refreshing to see all of the "familiar" names still with the corps as well. To have progress and continuity, there must be those that remain year-after-year to keep the foundation solid as well. Sometimes, those have been around are overlooked.
  11. This thread is funny. Cute; but funny. How many of you folks are actual drum corps members or have been a participant in some way, shape, or form?
  12. Just the nature of this topic and thread makes me laugh hysterically!
  13. As a fan of the Blue Stars, I'm curious as to what's happening up in Wisconsin. Any word or rumors towards staff changes-major or minor, and show ideas? They are so known for being hush-hush this time of year.
  14. To all members of Tremendous Blast, Blue Stars Alumni Corps, and the Marching Chiefs Alumni Band (they have a lot of corps ties); I wish each and every one of you a great Oktoberfest 2006! Let's all take this parade by storm and show everyone some great entertainment! Regards everyone!
  15. To John and all with Tremendous Blast, it will be fantastic to have you all at Oktoberfest again! May everyone in the Tremendous Blast, Blue Stars Alumni Corps, and the Marching Chiefs Alumni Band show the young whipper-snappers how it's done! John, a special thanks you, the Govies, and all at Patrick's for putting on a great shindig the night following the DCA show in St. Peter on August 19th!
  16. To this day, it's refreshing and pleasant to read and hear about the Blue Stars still being known for being hardcore yet able to turn to thier competitors in other corps and offer sincere applause and support. I've witnessed the good, the bad, and the ugly within the acitivity over the years; however, corps like the Blue Stars (yes, there are others out there), are an example of what this crazy activity of drum corps is all about.
  17. See folks, just another instance of DCI neglecting the desires of the fans and corps members. It will be interesting to see how the marketing and merchandising department at DCI succeeds or fails from all of this...Again I say, Grrrrrrr!
  18. So "DCI Seasonpass" was the answer you received for the corps outside of the top 12? That just irks me even more! There are still some folks out there in drum corps fan land that prefer everything on one recording and don't desire or do not have the means to download a show. Thanks a lot DCI for neglecting the desires of the fans that are your "non-corporate" sponsors. Grrrrrr...
  19. Remember, back in day, when the DCI recordings included the top 24? Then, some years later, it was reduced to the top 21. And now, it's only the top 12! This is ridiculous! Am I the only that feels that the corps, 13-24, are being slighted?
  20. Hmmm, besides being the founder of the Florida Wave; Rondo's main job is being an anchorman. Correct? After all these years of seeing him on the DCI broadcasts, this year has to rank up there as one of the most humorous. Why? I believe this was his use of grammar, "worser and worser," or something he stated to that effect. Yeeeeesh...
  21. The Sacramento Freelancers! The deep red jacket with the white flap, black cross strap with the shiny buckle. Those tall black plumes! The black pants! The white gauntlets, and black cummerbund...sharp, sharp, sharp! The strains of their trademark closer-"Bells" Oooooo, goosebumps! Yep, I would love to see the Freelancers back. And they would have Pearl drums! I've always liked the way that corps sounded with the Pearls. The Remos...yeeeeesh! Just bad drums, period.
  22. Well, if we're going to have the Cadets do a retro show, that includes a bunny; perhaps they might ask VK if they could use their Engergizer Bunny costume from some years and years past! LOL!
  23. LOL! It's just humor that's all. Most of this thread was primarily dedicated to the Crossmen and Capital Regiment duking it out for the upper most position; and it was the Blue Stars that ended up coming out on top. In regards to the "past" comment; that was in regards to the Blue Stars previous years as an open class corps. Again, all three corps did a marvelous job at DCI and deserve much praise!
  24. And the winner is...**ding, ding** Sometimes the past comes back to haunt the present! It will be interesting to see how all three corps pick up from the end of '06 and progress into '07.
