  1. Fair point - was it only 93 Star that was boo'ed, or would you say the 90, 91, 92 shows were boo'd too? I would say the 93 show began the musical change that has lead to where we are today --
  2. the star show was the best part of the night - coherent melodies, musical phrases - after devs and cavies it was a stark reminder of how much more musical and entertaining drum corps was back in the 80s/90s. interesting to note - the video montage of Star showing the audience at finals back at Camp Randal - entire front side both decks completely full - compare that to the audience at prelims last night - there were what, maybe 8-10K people at Indianapolis last night?
  3. crown was my favorite I was insulted by cavies and BD - that is the worst thing I have ever seen in drum corps really liked the blow your brains out vis by cavies - nice BD - what was that? crap.
  4. passed BAC passed SCV coming down the home stretch PLEASE BEAT PHANTOM PLEASE BEAT PHANTOM PLEASE BEAT PHANTOM PLEASE BEAT PHANTOM!!!
  5. Dear Freelancer 92 - I agree with you - last night I was just watching clips on youtube from shows this year - and I have to agree - drumcorps doesn't appeal to me anymore - I enjoy following the scores and the standings, and it makes me happy to see certain corps do well - but even with my favorite corps, I'm really not interested in seeing or hearing what they are doing with their on field projections. I aged out in 91 - we marched through the golden age of drum corps - that era is gone and will never return. Corps designers are not interested in entertaining the audience - they are interested in impressing the judges and the top echelon of drum corps designers. It's kind of an emperor has no clothes kind of a thing going on - people in the inner circle of course want to be accepted, so of course they say - yes! That's great! (even knowing that the new designs don't engage the audience) I'm not going to gas and carp about this - you know what I mean and I agree with you - even if I could afford to go to shows, I wouldn't. Since leaving drumcorps, I have gotten into traditional folk music like bluegrass and Irish traditional music - in these musical forms, the musicians appreciate and respect their roots - they are free to innovate but they always acknowledge the tradition and will perform the classic tunes.
  6. is this show the first meeting of Blue Stars and Boston this season?
  7. Nice vid of Vanguard in practice at TCF Stadium in Minneapolis: http://www.mndaily.com/multimedia/videos/2...-clara-vanguard
  8. no one agrees that the reason the activity has changed is because the people involved in creating and producing the shows are artist? do you think artist want to do the same thing year in year out? you don't think the creative people designing the shows want to be creating something new? the drum corps community has been having this "why isn't it as good as it used to be?" potty party ever since the end of the first season back in the Civil War era - or whenever the beginning of the art form can be traced to. Get over yourselves. The activity is always going to be changing - quit asking "why isn't it as good as it used to be?"
  9. Mosquitoes have been medium-light to medium in MN this year - shouldn't be bad -
  10. stand still in the aquatic center right next door?
  11. not to be a sunshine pumper, but if the show goes well this year is there a chance that DCI will have a similar show at this venue next season?
  12. There are some very drum corps starved families and friends of current marchers and former marchers here in the Twin Cites as well as a very active high school marching band scene - the Stillwater Show is always a sellout - it would be neat to this show bring in the kind of numbers Drum Beauty at Parade stadium used to. TCF Bank stadium seats 40,000 - so you would think there would be at least 6,000 - 8,000 good seats for a drum corps show... ticks starting at $27 is going to keep many away though... I wonder how TCF Bank Stadium will compare with UW's Camp Randall for a drum corps venue - from the looks of it, TCF looks to be lower and more of a bowl -
  13. for years and years people have been talking about drum corps and marketing and growing the audience - get real - the only people who enjoy drum corps are people who march, people who used to march and the parents of people who march. Drum corps is an extremely small musical niche market - it's never going to be popular outside the immediate band/drum corps community
  14. I have been out of the activity for the past few years - question: is one or more of the 150 members of a corps responsible for running sound?
