  1. Just saw your "Portrait in Plaid" and think that is a wonderful idea to have that about your members. BRAVO!!!!
  2. Just saw your webpage and I like the show!!! When I was working with Renegades (NY) we did the Firebird Suite/Light My Fire piece, what a cool chart. Man I am excited for the corps and then School's Out....geez I may come to NY for the summer....oh my wife would kill me...unless she came but she has to work....unless I win the lottery hehehehehehe. Congrats!
  3. Pseudo Intellectual...? Hmmm Okay, if you say so! LOL. In my opinion, yes! There are some who will say it is the fault of the unintelligent corps directors who destroyed corps. In some cases I agree. However, I believe that due to the demands that DCI put on touring and the amount of shows that they sanctioned, caused corps to travel more than they could afford. Does that make sense? The corps that toured alot were from the west (Troopers, SCV, BD, VK, etc). Since there were more corps in the Mid-West and East they had to travel. When DCI added more and more shows the smaller corps in the east and midwest decided to travel too. Bad decision! My particular corps was a weekend corps. A few times we traveled to Illinois for a few days but that was it. Our demise came because the corps director resigned and the next guy merged us with a smaller corps down the road and we had to lower our standards to those kids. I would say that DCI is at fault....look at the number of corpsin 1976 and 1977 and then see how the numbers dwindled after that up to now. Drum corps is better quality-wise but number-wise NO!
  4. I used to practice straight through until my trumpet teachers Gerry Soffer, Phil Christner and Wade Weast suggested other ways. Actually Wade told me to practice the way weight lifters lift, short periods and then rest. Yes, Donny they said to watch TV too. Actually when I used to teach Heat Waves hornline I would stop after an hour and give them a break. The best way is to rest as much as you play. I saw Tyzik with Vizzutti and Doc Severinson with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra. Vizzutti blew them all away!
  5. I can say that in the winter of 1975, prior to the 76 season, Ted Key from Toronto was brought in and changed our corps around. He brought Bob Stone in from T.O. too and the corps jumped up a few notches. Of course add Bill Dekker and Doug Kleinhans on drums and things were pretty nice in 1976. Add yours.
  6. Anyone have a Blue Rock photo? Our uniforms were somewhat similar to them but a cheaper version. I remember going to Illinois in 1975 and the Cavie people thought Blue Rock was in the show....hehehehehe
  7. I am jealous that you get to see your son alot!!! You're a good Dad and Timmy is a good son!!! Keith
  8. Working with you all was the best drum corps experience ever. I was thanking Cru and being bitter about something else. I was thanking Cru and all you guys. The negative stuff was about something else...but you and I have chatted so you know.
  9. Bitter? Yeah However, my friends know why I said what I said and I think they understand. It was very disheartening to hear that friends were not so kind. Anyhow.... I go on! I decided to say all of this because I needed to, that's all.
  10. Thank you Mike Linton, Donny Allen and the fabulous people with the Rochester Crusaders! When I was a member and on staff you treated me and the rest of us like we were gold. Both Mike and Donny would listen. You are all the greatest! Thank you for all you did to make me continue to enjoy drum corps. My memories of my junior days and my memories with the Crusaders will stay with me forever.
  11. Being an educator in Sarasota County, I can say how proud we are of the North Port HS Drum and Bugle Corps. There may be a possibility of starting a corps at our school at Sarasota Military Academy.
  12. You are absolutely correct! Just look at the "A History of Drum and Bugle Corps" Book. Look at the scores for DCI 1976-77were big years and then we commence with the slow death. The quality is better because of the make of the instruments and obviously the visual portion is more advanced. DCI may be slowly diminshing but look at DCA they are growing every year. WHY? Easy. In the 70's we rehearsed on the weekdays and went to shows on weekends...and what does DCA corps do? Same thing as we did in the 70's.
  13. Okay All you Taco eaters...just want to say again, the "recipe" for the Crusaders famous Taco Salad comes from my mother. Back in 1981 (I think), the Santa Clara Vanguard came to North Tonawanda, NY. The small drum corps I was with that year was hosting them and so my Mom made her Taco Salad. Gail Royer loved it and said it was the best he had tasted. I guess they ate alot of it on the road but my mothers was the best. All the kids bragged about it too. So "Ma" Martin borrowed it and used it for the Crusaders. I am happy that everyone enjoys it....try it with gound turkey too.
  14. Well I use a Monette B3...it doesn't put me in the stratosphere but I feel comfortable with it. That's a Monette not a Hammond B3.
  15. Just saw that Jimmy is with Crossmen this year as brass caption Kahuna, excellent!!! That hornline will be cooking again. Best wishes to Jimmy and Crossmen!!!!
  16. Awesome job Donny! Man...Eastridge and Copiague you are on a roll!
  17. Should add Jimmy Steele in the brass staff....he's a great teacher too!
