  1. Same name (different story) as one of my Favorite books The Power of One by Bryce Courteney. Was made into a movie in the '90's, starring Morgan Freeman with a Beautiful Soundtrack by Hans Zimmer. Not really DC material, but some wonderful stuff.
  2. Gaurd was second in '95, and the corps was sixth- missing finals by 1 spot. So perhaps, had the corps made finals the guard could have won? who knows?

  4. This is true, however I believe caption awards were handed out at finals- not grand finals- which would still make them the caption winner. OC, didn't win the caption because of overall placement
  5. Agreed- one of the best shows DCI has ever seen at any level!! I'll add Dutch Boy 06 (I'm biased, but whatever) Academy 06 Kiwanis Kavaliers, 92 and 95 Les Etoiles- any year- so creative! L'insolite- 90 Huge props to any of the little guys going out year after year, playing there hearts out! I'll stand and cheer for you any day! Colt Cadets, Blue Saints, Racine- you guys rock!
  6. Oldguard Thanks for the kind words about Dutch Boy and what we were trying to acheive this year. As a design staff we were really going for blatant and undeniable. Apparently that worked!!!! I loved that you grandkids picked up on all the cool things we were doing. My favorite part of your post was about your Grand daughter getting twinkle, twinkle at the end of the show. Oddly enough at the same show one of the judges was confused and couldn't figure out why we were playing "Bah, Bah, Black Sheep"!!!!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA (Twinkle Twinkle, Bah Bah, and the Alphabet song are the same thing!) As for the young ones in the corps, there was actually only 2 or 3 kids under 14 in the corps. 2 in the pit for sure, and I think 1 in the gaurd. The bass drummer is actually 14, just looks young for his age. And the trumpets were just shorter girls. But a couple years ago we were filled with younger kids 10-14. I think it's awesome to have kids that young in corps- start 'em young! Once again, thanks for the great words. It's so awesome to know that people out there really appreciate what Dutch Boy and all the other Div III's out there are doing. It's because of people like you and your family that keep my interest strong in the activity. As I tell my kids before every competition- "who cares about a score, let me deal with that. You guys go out there and perform. Put on a show for the people who paid to see you. They should be the reason you do this, not for a score." Thank you!!!
  7. Yes, I saw the video. To be honest, it really not worth discussing. The apology is there.
  8. As for how it was received- I would say pretty well. A few people with issues. But in general- there was a lot of laughing from the crowds when they realized what we were actually playing. some singing or humming as well by the younger crowd members. All in all, a lot fun was had by everyone. There was only one time (Rome NY) that we actually had an awkward silence from the crowd. We had just added a mic'd vocal to the start of the closer. Let just say awkward!! Cut right after the show.
  9. Ok the show music in Order- Mountain Town Uncle... I Can change Blame Canada Kyle's Mom's a... I'm Super La Resistance It was a really fun show to write and have the kids play. The key visual thing that you would have seen was Kenny- he was killed naturally at the end of the show. You can check out the show if you go to the corps website- I think it's there. If not, go to Youtube- I know it's there.
  10. Thank you for all the kind words about DB and the staff. Steve is a great guy who knows how to run a corps. the professionalism he shows and teaches to the kids are a great example of how to live life in general, not just Drum Corps. It's been one heck of a roller-coaster ride for us this year, and all your kind comments help to make the end result even sweeter. Thanks to all the DB fans and supporters out there.
  11. Thanks for taking the time to talk about the Div III's. Great review!!!
  12. Hey Neutral voice- a quick question/ comment about your poll. I was wondering why you had omitted Dutch Boy from the poll? It's obvious that you have the 22 Div I, 6 Div 2, 1 International, and then 1st,2nd,and 4th in Div III. What's your reasoning for that? Dutch boy actually beat Revolution and Raiders (Div II) in finals this year. And to top it off with your popularity poll, they were the most improved corps in Div III, as well as the Spirit of Disney award recipient, which is an award for entertainment. Wouldn't that fit right in line with this poll. Just wondering?
  13. DB Tenor mom- wish one is your son? I'm the pit arranger/ instructor with the corps
  14. Scores, anyone??? I can't wait- this is killing me!!!!!
  15. I think its an awesome idea! Michigan City is alwas a favorite location for Drum Corps. Corps are always treated so well there. I can't wait!
  16. Get 'er done, VK!!! keep positive- You've still got fans everywhere. Everyones gotta start (restart) somewhere. I know I'll be cheering for you! And for every div III member out there giving all they got, just trying to survive the season. Drum Corps ain't easy, espeacially for the "little guys".
