  1. From my understanding, with the increase of #MeToo from the George Hopkins fiasco at Cadets, many of the staff will not be with the group next year. I don't know specifics, and frankly I don't want to because I don't want the negative press to have the spotlight on OC, but hopefully with the huge changes, they can get back on their feet for 2019. I want my daughter to march OC in a few years (Started 6th Grade Band this school year as a drummer!), but I won't allow it if this is the kind of thing I need to worry about it.
  2. OC has a late start with their guard. Not having all their show flags, or costumes yet, as well as all of the choreography. When that finishes, they should see a jump. As for placement, they are not far off from the last few seasons with the color guard issues, which is saying something. Cascades of 2015 is a completely different corps. They had a huge turnout for membership, and have a beautifully writen show. I'm honestly excited to see then rivaling my beloved OC, as it can create some healthy competition.
  3. For years I haven't enjoyed Cascaded shows. They've been boring, and not well executed. Honestly I felt like that was more of a design issue then anything. Not designing a show around the talent level of the group. With that being said, this year's show is wonderful! It's entertaining, has a certain level of difficulty that I feel the kids can achieve, and it's overall package is a wonderful sight to see with this group. Great job Cascades, I can't wait to see more!
  4. The gap between OC and cascades I feel was accurate, but I do feel the scores are way low. Last year OC scored a 66, and this group is leaps and bounds ahead of that that group, even with the guard blunders. With that said, all 3 world class corps were incredible, and I will enjoy watching them grow through the season.
  5. We wore those uniforms starting in 2004... Also, the year 2000 is more akin to the columbians then 2007. Semantics though. Let's just praise this wonderful corps!
  6. On another note, it brings a tear to my eyes watching what these kids are achieving. This show Nevermore is my new favorite. 2012's Dreaming in Color is #2.
  7. As an alumni from the early rebirth years 2003-2005, it is depressing when people dismiss what we accomplished before the 2007 "rebirth". If we never started our climb in the early 2000's, the current corps would not exist. Period. And the same goes from my years. We would most likely not be the "Oregon Crusaders" without the corps from the 70's, the Dickinsons Oregon Crusaders. It's fine to recognize the hard work from the 10 vets, and few staff/BOD that stuck around and kept it from disappearing, but to say "We started from the ground up in the 2007 rebirth" is hogwash. I appreciate all the hard work that was done to keep it alive, but there was not a hiatus year, or a "folding".
  8. How was Akron mic'd differently? I haven't given it a listen or watch. I'm intrigued though...
  9. hearing the feet in the sound typically means you can hear distortions in their tone quality for each step, or some of their steps. Most commonly found in high speed moves. Also, if the move is complicated the player can lose focus on staying in tune or having the proper timing in their playing.
  10. I truly believe if they can clean the spaghetti feet, everything else will fall into place. The feet hurts not only their visual score, but you can hear their feet in the sound. So proud to have been part of this group 10 years ago, and as the current and first Alumni President, I am truly excited to see what they can do in the future.
  11. Your hope was fulfilled! 70.60! OC has been known to have score jumps... I would love to see some soon. According to the score recap, the brass and visual scores are hurting them. We know they sound amazing! we just gotta get the feet sound out of it. They got the volume, lets get the tone quality now!
  12. And they haven't had a show since 6/29... they last had a score of 62.9. Very likely they will be around the same area as OC, possibly higher numbers
  13. OC Not breaking 70 depresses me. I haven't seen the last few shows so I can't say why or how. Gratz to Cascades for huge score jumps though!
  14. Thanks for the awesome reviews! I agree with the OC one, except the score part. Their Marching really needs some work, but the show concept, music, and sound coming out of them is awesome!
  15. I can't wait for the High Cam from the Denver Fan Network showing. I've only seen it in low stands, so don't have a good idea of what they are really doing. Musically they are rocking!
  16. The Viola has a LOT of voice in select sections, that would sound extremely bizarre without. And do what I do in cases like what you are feeling. Understand that the activity is always evolving, and there is nothing we can do about it. So accept it and move on. My 2 cents are I would take ALL of the changes in the last 15 years, if we could send back Trombones lol.
  17. Sad day that OC's score went down. I heard that their Viola had an A string issue... Not sure if it got resolved in time for the performance. Not having that Viola I would imagine would hurt their GE a lot
  18. Very good news about the weather! I will be manning the parking lot, and last year it was in the 90's and miserable! So excited for tonight though! Go OC!
  19. My favorite aspect of this years corps is the sheer volume coming out of this hornline. Leaps and bounds above last years more reserved volume level. They are LOUD.
  20. One thing to remember is there is a very high chance these kids had the first show jitters. This was the first uniformed run in front of a paying crowd, let alone their friends and family as well. Like I said, they COULD break top 12, however it's too early to tell at the moment. I am fully expecting a 12-15 placement. I would love higher, but that doesn't happen overnight (overyear? lol) These kids are doing some incredible things, like what DrummanTx said with the historical placements. They will keep improving steadily due to well thought out planning.
  21. This is the first year I've volunteered outside of the local show. As president of the newly formed Alumni Association, I figured it was a good thing to start doing. When I was watching them practice, this is the corps to burst into top 12. WILL it happen? who knows. But they have the show design and talent level to do it. Just wait until you hear the closer
  22. I got hit in the crotch in the final run through of the 2004 show by a guard members flag. She was 5 yards off somehow... The Guard instructor saw it and almost fell off the scaffolding laughing so hard. I didn't play the rest of the run through lol. HURT SOOO BAD.
