That is an absolutely horrible decision. The battery at the crossmen was the strongest section in the corps for many years now and recently because of Lee. This is very, VERY disapointing.

i believe they've done this on purpose. i've heard rumors that they might be releasing a dvd of some sort of their lot clips. if it's true it would be pretty sweet. -chris

individually yes, but this is the first that i've seen an entire line playing to music. i think it's pretty cool, the bees knees even. has anyone else heard of this done before? (like a whole line playing to music) -chris

http://www.vicfirth.com/education/articles/Gusseck.html check out the link above. it's about murray gusseck and his "new technique" (im using quotes because im not really sure how new this is) but yeah, it really makes alot of sense and is fun. any one try it yet? what do you think about it? i think it makes building chops really fun... as weird as that sounds. i found out about this a while ago but thought it sounded kind of weird but i tried it last night and it's really cool making up your own variations and stuff. just thought i would spread the word. -chris

What is the HARDEST brass intrument to play?
L1STEN2311 replied to BOSMarcher's topic in Brass Forum
i meant that it could. i didn't meant that it always does. especially new learners of the horn with absolutly no sound quality.. i suppose i could've phrased it better. my bad. -chris -
What is the HARDEST brass intrument to play?
L1STEN2311 replied to BOSMarcher's topic in Brass Forum
yeah the horn can easily pierce through any ensemble:-D so that is always fun, but i am originally a percussion player, i marched euphonium for two years, and played trombone in my highschool jazz band and a ska band for about a year. And in my opinion, horn is the hardest. It gets so frustrating hitting partials and fingering with the left hand doesnt make it any easier to just pick up and learn. another weird thing for me (with horn) was that it's about 80% upper lip and about 20% bottom for your embechure(sp?). But a really cool thing is being able to play a scale only on partials and muting with your hand. plus getting a good "horn" sound took me quite a while. im done my rant. -chris -
there was definately stuff on the perc. tape eddited out. during the long roll towards the end of the cadets feature it just goes silent. then comes back in with him saying "NOT LIKE ITS EASY OR ANYTHING!" my guess is just that there was some "chioce words" if you will. -chris

it either sounds like that janet jackson/busta rhyme's song which i cant remember the title of or the ludicrous song fantasy. i dont know. not huge on the "hip hop" scene. rock -chris

There is a web page called drumlineparkinglot.net and is just full of clips of drumlines warming up, playing exerpts of their shows, and I & E. so why not have it for the brass? there is plenty of awesome stuff out there to be posted. any input? any one know of any sites like this? if not lets get one started its about time and would provide great exposure for hornlines and drum corps in general. rock -chris

thanks : )

since it's any key bell front brass... couldn't a corps use trombones? even though it more than likely wouldn't have any advantages... (atleast none that i can think of) anyone have an answer? -chris

I'm honestly not as disapointed with the visual aspect as i thought i would be but there are at least 3 audio problems that i picked up on my first viewing of the tapes. In the opening snare solo for bd, maybe they moved a mic or something, but it sounds like a flange on the audio.... (it's hard to explain what a flange is. at least its hard for me to explain), also, during the first 10 seconds of SCV's show, the audio sounds very muffled and then all of a sudden it sounds normal. The third is during crossmen. right before the birdland lick in bubba. Yeah, im glad i payed $59 and got poor filming, poor audio edditing, and quarterfinals. whooopee. i would rather pay $98 for finals and few to no audio errors <**>

the scv lick in 99 (4:56), 00 (4:26), 01 (somewhere, i think...) , and 02 (2:14). you know what im talking about. I dig it. they change it up just a bit ever year. not that i don't dig the cadets: ) <---------converted cadets basher chris
