  1. New York state has been hit pretty hard by the economy, and certain parts of the NE have as well.
  2. well....I can relate in some ways Tom. look at Westshore. Sure we had money issues after 96......but to start the 98 season in the fall and thru Serenade, we had bodies. 30 brass on stage in April, plus a decent sized drumline. While the money was an issue, we could have in time made it work....but further management issues hurt ( and a scary obsession legal revenge as opposed to rebuilding a corps). I do agree with what you say in a lot of ways about who show design is aimed for, but there is no certain style that will draw over another. For as many people that love what, say Cabs or Empire do, just as many love what Bucs and Hurcs do. If I were to play again, honestly shows like MBI does is what I'd most want to play...I'm a jazzer. But I can see why Empire, Cabs, and Bucs draw people. DCA isn't alone in this ether...read the DCI forums. show design has become a huge bone of contention there as well. Thanks God, to date, DCA hasn't embraced electronics. I've said it in the DCI Forums and I'll say it here. I attended an indoor clinic a few years ago where Cesario himself said that too many designers design for themselves, their friends and what they think the judges want. The problem is, many judges actually want to be entertained as well, and this is missed by the designers.
  3. i got the guy on the left, guy on the right is coming up a blank
  4. I'll guess cost is why. Tho I'd be thinking an early season mini regional/big show would be a great idea as opposed to a finals week test
  5. I would imagine distance is a factor...you did see some different faces when finals were in Scranton.
  6. I think the issue is that it isn't being done for all
  7. wait...isn't DCI the member corps? so to me, they get priase and blame.
  8. no ticket prices alone aren't the cause, I'd imagine the fan network helped, and in those years, higher attendance at places like Denver and LA had to help. Let's face it, 27000 fans at $100 or so a head comes out to a lot more than 21000 fans at $100 or so a head. and i don't think it's just amps...it's all that followed with amps as well as show design complaints
  9. so, if everyone is finally back up and running in the next 2 years, plan on breakfast lunc and dinner at the stadium on Saturday!!
  10. Ewing Nj isn't that far from Philly, so no big issue there
  11. sorry but I disagree. yes the environement may change a little bit outside, but it's still not under a roof...that's game changer.....and could be a good or bad one. Who knows the place may sound worse open, which makes the place totally unacceptable. and sorry, if i were a lower tier corps, yes, i would and they should feel slighted. they arent even good enough to experiment on....or, also, not good enough to get what the cinecast corps do. thats the message it sends
  12. brass is 75 Madison...say what you want about G brass, they were loud, clean and in tune. guard...79 27th. George was asserting his genius percussion...79 SCV. Fred at his best. he got his licks in, which still counted then, but for that era so musical.
  13. more attendance equals more revenue, more swag purchased. if attendance falls, you can keep jacking prices up, but at some point the market will have it's breaking point. a classic example is WWE and their pay per views. prices have risen $10-20 a month for the last 3 years, and buys are down, especially here in the US. The only thing saving them is the higher price and overseas markets getting added. if they had just the US, today Vinnie Mac'd be a hurting pup
  14. A field judge catching something out of the corner of their eye, if smart will probably say "not entirely in position"...and that should be the end of it. We know they can't see everything on the field, but to change their decision based on what someone other than they saw is at best questionable
  15. revenue numbers have gone with ticket prices going up and DCi having a hand in running more shows...that doesnt mean that attendance is up.
  16. a question then, as this may seem as a knock to Empire, but isn't. Bucs and Hurcs haven't been exactly doing big band shows the last few years, yet they do not seem to be begging for bodies. So I'm not going to agree that the type of show is always a reason for low bodies. God knows our show in 96 wasn't exactly toe tapping to many, but we had a full corps.
  17. the guy on the left is no goose, that's for sure
  18. we've been lucky the last few years...i'll have to ask Larry if he has any pull with God. Of course, depending on his Friday night, he may say he is God
  19. are the warm up areas where the marketplace is?
  20. for a field judge tho, unless that supervisor was shadowing their every step, there is no way they can say anything other than what the judge did was correct
  21. Andy has a great idea. I do know of 4 people who have specifically said they weren't marching because of economic factors, and 2 said burnout...1 just started a family.
