  1. and in the eyes of many...this isn't making it better Mike. it's turning them off and pushing them away.
  2. i agree here, but I don't think compulsaries will change that. i just think that they need to credit book less and performance more. one wonderful thing WGI does with the percussion performance analysis caption is that book is 15% of the number and performance is 25% of the number. maybe it's time on the sheets not named GE to make the what box 45% of the number and the how box 55% of the number. maybe even go 40/60
  3. not necessarily. the rental market would still be there as many corps would still be getting G bugle deals and would have exrtas laying around
  4. question...why does drum corps have to be more inclusive for other people? do you see metal bands opening up and letting saxes in? do you see symphonies opening up and letting contras in? no. this continued ######## belief of some that drum corps has to be all things to all people does one very bad thing.... continue to push people away. given how we have seen no attendance numbers for 2008 and 2009, I can't honestly believe all the new toys are really dragging that many people in the door to make up for those leaving. sometimes you can tinker with something good and truly #### it up
  5. here's what I don't get... why spend all that time working on something you'll use for the part of the show that doesn't count? too many corps already suffer in the judged portion because you can see they're too focused on preshow.
  6. you call them benefits. however many fans wouldn't, and would stop attending shows if allowed. so really, it's a loss
  7. condolences to Duke and his family. and future condolences to my back for the shoveling that awaits
  8. maybe it's me, but an agreement with other organizations still sounds like some kind of rental agreement is needed that adds cost

  10. same thing with many DCA lines. I dont think it's entirely the drums
  11. i'd say if the tuning causes clarity issues, it may be mentioned, but it isn't a huge part of the sheet
  12. has anyone considered one large issue for using student owned instruments: liability. if the bus gets hit or the truck has an accident and equipment gets damaged...who pays? does the corps require the kids t have insurance on it ( adding extra costs) or does the corps cover it ( adding extra costs)?
  13. true...but you and I know both know to many, what DCI says is gospel. If DCI said it, it HAS to be true. personally, electronics usage was underwhelming, and given that it's the same faces designing year in and year out, I don't forsee a drastic change. No offense, but adding a rock band isn't all that creative, it's been done in the band world, and, well, was about as entertaining...or not in other words
  14. oh i use it now and then., i like seeing people freak out. too funny Howdy's here
  15. it might be a BS argument, but it was used in press releases. Just like all the hype about DCI folks being experts with amping and the wonderful creativity we'd see with electronics
  16. because being seen as uncompetitive isn't a great recruiting tool.
  17. i wonder about thew cost of it. for a 30 or 40 person indoor unit, it's pricey but doable. for 150 member corps, thats a lot of extra $$
  18. congrats grandpa jimmy! may he be a drummer and a Cowboys fan!
  19. i know that, you know that, and some people don't care. i mean to be technical, many corps arent based where their name says they're from, and people still address them by historical names
  20. if attendance drops, I think finals live on the fan network for an extra fee is a guarantee. regular TV, not so much due to cost
