  1. Ok....3 decades then.....remember when everyone used to jazz it up? Now...only a scant few... SIGH....a big case how the sheets have changed this activity (in some respects for the worst IMHO)

  3. Any hornline that has played jazz over the last decade. Never credited enough by judges as many judges don't get how friggin' hard it is to teach teenagers to swing on the move. I mean...it is hard enough to get them to swing sitting down inside.
  4. Steph: You ever been to a Boston sporting event? Boston fans are extremely lively, raucous, and habitual drinkers and pork sandwich eaters. The average weight of a Patriots Fan is over 300 lbs. (see coach Fulmer below) So...i guess i read this as a compliment..meaning: Hey Bawsteners: Don't Drink before going to DCI. just because you consume more fatty foods on a Patriots gameday then the entire third world population....just because you can drink 2 times the weight of the Empire State Bldg.....don't think you can do that for drum corps...because the first impact of a 60 man hornline under your normal daily consumption will make you barf and give you a side-splitting headache. You must watch drum corps sober (as hard as it is for our freinds in the northeast) b**bs b**bs b**bs b**bs b**bs b**bs b**bs b**bs b**bs b**bs
  5. Can't argue with you here. Some of the rudest fans when their teams don't do as well as they like....case in point: 2000 Mufreesboro when Madison....well...you know the rest.
  6. I cannot totally agree with you here. I mean....it is a Major regional and it is not like they say...well..these scores really don't count because the dome sucks. Judges judge whatever and wherever and all corps are evaluated in the same arena. I agree that Indy is the WORST venue for drum corps on tour....however....the visual judges can see just as well and in the center press box...the upstairs judges can hear just fine. The TREND is set. These scores are posted and like the venue or not...it is OFFICIAL. Cadets are good enough to stay on top and after Orlando...it was obvious it was a mere matter of time for them to get there. As always...my 2 cents. Peace
  7. 1983 Garfield Cadets 1983 - 1986 Suncoast Sound (esp. 1986) You gotta check 'em out!
  8. The 2005 Cadets Brassline is miles better than 1998's if i am recalling correctly.
  9. I agree totally. In this era, when brass judges seem to be relegated to the field, leaving percussionists too much in control of music numbers, Jeff has always been a true professional. When many judges seem to take the easy way out, lining corps up in neat little "two tenths spreads", Jeff will ALWAYS call it like he sees it. Many people on this board complain that judges don't judge each performance as a separate entity....Jeff does. And now, when perhaps he thought BD just wasn't good enough, y'all complain that the judge doesn't know what he is doing. Well..I have news for you folks....its a sad sight to see what was once a huge pool of brass judges dwindling down to a scant few. One can only hope there are more Jeff Mitchells out there to help us "Brass Guys" get some more weight on our panels. For another topic: We have 2 percussion judges, and often percussionists are on GE Music and Ens music, and there isn't enough balance of commentary and evaluation of the brass lines within the upstairs captions. As always...my 2 cents. Peace!
  10. Blue Knights --push and rise into finals Taipei's show SCV's fall
  11. No argument here.....I look at it this way: If you wanted to show someone who knew nothing about computers the example of computers today...you wouldn't pull out your old Apple II...even though it was revolutionary in its day.
  12. Agreed...if you showed them 1980 27th lancers.....with the bland unis....rifles with ribbons...high mark time.....they wouldn't understand what DCI is about today. This goes for any drum corps from that era. You need to show them recent drum corps to sell them on the activity. No disrespect to us corps people who marched in the 1980s...but i ain't showing 20 year old drum corps to define it to new people.
  13. Perhaps a favorite show...my post was in reference to the execution and not the design. Bottom Line...not one of SCV's top hornline performances
  14. Programming is HUGE! Many a talented corps and staff have been done in by some puzzling decisions beyond their control.
  15. Kudos to Chris Maher! Anytime someone can get sponsorships is a positive. Even though there may be other texas corps that can use the money, it is up to those organizations to pound the pavement and do whatever they can to maximize corporate relations and secure financial security.
  16. Beginning of 2002 Xmen's show....one of the hardest things to get together we have ever worked on
  17. 1. Cavies 2. Blue Devils 3. Cadets 4. Phantom 5. Madison 6. Bluecoats 7. SCV 8. Crown 9. Boston 10. Glassmen 11. Blue Knights 12. Spirit/Xmen/Colts (tie in the afternoon....one can dream cant I?) b**bs
  18. My vote would have to go to the 1989 Santa Clara Vanguard. DISCLAIMER: I never saw them live...just basing it on the audio recording i have. I was shocked by the brass sound and ens. music issues. could be a bad recording...but methinks i am hearing correctly. Many moments where you can here bad tq's, individual balance problems, tuning, etc. I dont know where they finished in brass or music ens...but their visual must have rocked. as always...IMHO! Peace
  19. And with Jeff and Bobby Bowden still running the show, they could fall out of the top 20!!!!! Nikk: ITS URBAN MEYER TIME....move over Bobby...i hear there are some nice condos in Ft. Walton Beach!!! :P b**bs :P b**bs :P b**bs
  20. 2003 Santaluces HS A Class Champions
  21. I appreciate ALL drum corps and all the kids who perform.....and it is my time to waste...and yes...i am thankful i have time on my hands today...as i spend a good majority of it teaching the kids you speak of. Sheesh....just like our government...trying to tell us all how to live our lives...... Peace
  22. I disagree here....Crown..BAC and Glassmen...yes...but Xmen are currently on par with BK, Sprit, etc. I know its early...and you can't compare diff. scores from shows...however...looking at how the Jeff Mitchells and Calhouns of the world are calling it so far...i thought xmenjeff's post was more accurate.
