  1. Another corps in Texas! Congratulations Brent and the rest of the Stars. Looking forward to the Preview.
  2. Calling all Austin area musicians. Don't miss the chance to be part of an historical events. Three all-age corps in Texas! We'll have that circuit before you know it.
  3. Awesome! Glad to see that Revo will continue. I hope that we can continue the tradition of having a Texas Drum Corps Preview with all junior (Revolution, Crossmen, and Trinity(?) and all-age (Gulf Coast Sound and Frontier) Texas corps.
  4. One of these days before I stop marching, I'm going to make this gig. I'm still teaching zydeco dancing and the last class night is Saturday.
  5. Ditto what Vic said! We missed you guys on the field this year.
  6. 2007 Open House The Gulf Coast Sound 2007 season will kick off with the Open House on Saturday, November 4th. The event will take place at the Corps home, Rittenhouse Baptist Church. Starting time is 10 AM. Lunch will be provided and we'll wrap up around 6 PM. The cost is free! The Corps will provide the instruments and music that you will need for the day. If you have your own G bugle (2 or 3 valve) you are welcome to bring it. We have a full "battery" of percussion and front ensemble equipment. The hornline uses 3 valve G bugles which are played just like most concert instruments. In fact, the music is even written the same way. So, there's very little adjustment needed to perform on a bugle. The color guard has an array of flags, sabers, and rifles available. Percussionists need to bring sticks. Hornline members need to bring a standard shank trumpet, marching mellophone, trombone/baritone, or tuba mouthpiece. Guard members need to bring guard gloves. Everyone is encouraged to wear comfortable clothes and tennis shoes, there will be a lot of standing and moving around. The Corps will provide water for you, but for personal convenience it's always better to have your own close at hand. The day will be spent playing through the new warm-up book and several concert charts, as well as one or two selections from the 2007 production. During lunch the staff will explain the 2007 production, the 2007 tour schedule, the dues structure, and other general information about the Corps. Parents and spouses are HIGHLY encouraged to spend the day and get to know the Corps and the staff. For more information on the Corps click here.
  7. Welcome Bryan! You will find interesting and useful information on DCP. Hope you stick around for many years to come.
  8. Calling all musicians in and around the Austin area! Let's get this Texas circuit started!
  9. Looks like 2007 is going to be truly awesome for Frontier! I remember 1968 and all those songs and events. I hope I can keep my composure when I hear the music. One question...Chris, what do know about 1968? Were you even born yet? :) Good tidings to you and all my Frontier friends in '07!
  10. Has this been communicated to the powers-that-be in Houston?
  11. I march with Gulf Coast Sound and it was at our show that Trinity's members were told that the corps was folding. All of us really feel sorry for the kids and wish them the best. Some members even asked about marching with us to finish out the DCA season. Unfortunately, our numbers and drill have been set, but we could use some members in the pit members if they could commit to marching the championships in Rochester over the Labor Day weekend.
  12. It's great that CV is performing at the Dome. The exposure is good for the "all-age" corps movement. Make us proud!
  13. Here's a link that works: http://www.anisman.com/steve/sadrmlst.htm
  14. Good luck with the recruiting. We need you guys to come back strong so we can keep this Class A movement going. See you in Rochester!
  15. I knew it was you all the time, William. Just wanted to keep plugging GCS. The show is progressing well and the corps looks great in the new uniforms. Hope to see you at the show.
  16. For those of us that didn't march juniors, I'd have to say collecting championship patches for my corps jacket has to be on the list. I LUV PATCHES! ^OO^
  17. I went to the show last night. Revo has a nice show and good sound. Revo may be on its way to another championship. Two people that marched with Gulf Coast Sound (all-age) last year (one baritone and one guard) are members. I was especially cheering for them. Also, Revo's score was higher than Magic and Pioneer.
  18. You may be out of luck, hotelwise. The corps were required to reserve some time ago, and with 26 corps scheduled to compete, the pickings are going to be slim. Hope you don't have to go to one of those you have to pay by the hour. b**bs

  20. IMO, playing in the band/corps gave people some of their fondest memories and many people (including myself) now realize that they can continue to pursue this beloved "hobby" beyond their school/corps years. It took me 20 years to find out that there was an "all-age" corps in Houston and I thought my career as a person who loved marching band/corps was over with college. It is also an escape for the stresses of life in general. Remember...we do this because we love to do it.
  21. I was out of drumming for about 20 years, so you can come back. If you are not in MBI shape, you should definitely consider a corps like the Govenaires. In terms of chopbuilding, check out this website: Digital Drum Tech. It contains downloadable chopbuilding exercises that can help get you back in shape.
  22. Gulf Coast Sound doesn't have the husband/wife hornline duet this year but it does have two (count 'em, two) horn/guard husband and wife teams featured in the ballad. There will probably be some on-field smooching going on.
