Alumni of corps who used ampes, voice, etc...
George82 replied to DrumCorpsFan03's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
I feel the same way Mike. I have no problem with amplification of the pit. I was impressed with the improvements The Cadets made with their use of mixed voices in this year's show. The Cadets for many years have pushed the envelope and attempted to take the activity to new heights in terms of show design. I think they've done a real good job ot that this year. Can't wait to see them in Foxboro. Beyond Tradition... "...For Holy Name Shall Always Be!" -
Do you think their inspiration came from the episode of "Happy Days" where Fonzie was Joanie's partner in a dance marathon at Arnold's??? Richie's band played and everytime he took the mike to speak he would say "Yowza, Yowza, Yowza"????

1982 Huntington, WV Drums Along The Tri-State Being a member of the first Garfield Cadet corps to place first in a DCI contest over the Santa Clara Vanguard. We knew we had arrived that night. -
But that wasn't just any old professional eating contest. It was the "grandaddy" of 'em all....the 2005 Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest! This contest is held at noon on the Fourth of July in front of the original Nathan's in Coney Island, NY. Believe it or not, it was covered LIVE by ESPN2. There's nothing more patriotic than watching fat guys shove hot dogs in their face.

A similar incident DID happen to yours truly in 1982. We were rehearsing somewhere in Massachusetts and I was having a really bad day. I was "ticking like a bomb"! George Zingali got in my face and told me to do pushups. When I asked him "how many?" he responded "...until I get tired of watchin' ya!" -

From imdb.com..... Was supposed to play the lead in Music of the Heart (1999) but dropped out two weeks before filming was set to begin. High school cheerleader. Marched with the Bridgemen Drum and Bugle Corps. Her daughter Lourdes was named as a tribute to Madonna's mother, who wanted to visit Lourdes, France, where the Virgin Mary, the Madonna, appeared in 1858, but died before doing so. -
Eric.... You're very close. We played "Rio" in 1983 as our 2nd number. The soloist you refer to is Mike Bushman who did not march in 83. He marched in the 1970's and rejoined in 1984. His horn with the "Dizzy Gillespie" bent bell was a bit controversial and an attempt to protest it was made at DCA's.

I thought this was settled in the spring..... 1989 SCV honorable mention goes out to .... 1975 Madison Scouts 1983 Garfield Cadets 1996 Phantom Regiment 2000 Cadets -
Gotta disagree with you there Garry. First of all it doesn't seem that you have been to a show where this has happened and you haven't experienced it firsthand. The girl wanders through the stands between performances and intermission (if there is one). Secondly, it's not done throughout the contest so there really is no distraction to performances happening down on the field. This is meant to be interactive with the audience, not to be judged or penalized. As far as you not being a "Cadet basher"......c'mon ...you obviously have a problem with the "single person spinning on retreats" and "the fire station sirens conveniently going off in Madison" (that was planned btw). This is not a "look at us" mindset as you put it. I applaud the Cadets and their staff for being different and pushing the envelope. Try opening your mind and enjoy what's happening not just in front of you for 11.5 minutes but also all around you. ".....for Holy Name shall always be!"
