  1. On the starting line,....from Anaheim, California,.......The Kingsmen!!!!
  2. I never meant my statement to imply that you have not posted before,......I simply was trying to state that you have a more in depth knowledge of the activity than you care to let on.
  3. Can't everyone just get along???? I am old,....but I love what the kids do today. I have marched or attended,"Nationals",...(yes that is what they were once called) or Finals Week since 1966. I loved the Royal Aires then. I enjoyed their reunion corps. I can't begin to name how many shows or corps that I have seen and enjoyed through the years,...but the fact remains, I enjoy seeing the growth and innovation to this day. I could never envision any corps ever being able to duplicate SCV opener after first seeing it in 1972. DAH!!!! I thought that nothing could ever be better than the Z pull. WRONG!!!! There will never be a mello line quite like Star. WRONG AGAIN!!! I will never tire of the Sunburst. Maybe,..but would still enjoy it. Corners,007,Fight Club and Machines,....keep entertaining me. I enjoy Alumni Corps,....but would tire of them quickly. A one time shot ,aka 27 and Madison, is the way to relive the past. Look forward to Anaheim in 2007. I can't wait to see what the years ahead hold, as long as clarinets and saxes stay off the field. I enjoy watching them at BOA!!!!
  4. "Granny" isn't as new to this as "he" claims. You all play into "his" hand. No one likes change, but you have to live with it. Comparing baseball to drum corps is "Ludikris". There is already a genre for what you want,.....'Reunion Corps"
  5. I think "Granny" is doing a fine job of "recruiting" for "her" or "his" corps. Slick way of trying to be anonymous.
  6. I witnessed puzzlement, hurt and disbelief within corps that the Combine founders/leaders purposefully excluded from their self-serving oh-so-exclusive closed club without offering one word of public explanation or apology to the other 500-plus corps which then existed. That statement IS a lie,...if you witnessed it, as you say, you chose to see only what you wanted. I not only "witnessed" it, but was a part of it, and you should preface your statements as "opinions", and not fact. Fact,...."I am not a Nazi, never was" Done feeding the troll.
  7. You are so wrong in your statement about the Combine, it hardly merits comment,......but when you in no uncertain terms slam legends of the activity, I must respond. IF, you were there to live through those years of the Combine and early DCI, you would realize what this group of men did to envision what needed to happen to let it survive. It took more than guts to do what they did at that time. Drum corps would be a bunch of small corps marching in local parades today if not for what transpired in the early 70's.
  8. It makes me sad to keep hearing all of the same negative arguments about this activity. It is also embarrassing, knowing that current marching members will possibly read some or all of this after the season. They are all on the field now, for basically the same reason that you or I were years ago,...because they love what they are doing!!! They practice long and hard,...just like you did. They sleep on gym floors ,...just like you did. They DO eat better than we did. They don't have to perform on Labor Day,...with, admit it, 10-20 holes for the members that did have to attend college. They don't have to perform Memorial Day, with, admit it, most corps playing anywhere from 1-2 songs, or almost complete repertoires from the year before. Why try to recreate what was then,...enjoy what the kids are doing now,...they are getting the same enjoyment that you did then. Drum corps has changed from years ago,...yet it remains the same. If it hasn't,.....most of us wouldn't be here checking scores ,complimenting,...or complaining. Go to shows, buy some souvies,...sponsor a member or two, get to know them, feed them, cheer them on. They will carry a piece of you on the field with them every time they perform. They also will relish your stories of how it used to be,...and respect you for the legacy you have left them. Believe me, ...they love the history of drum corps, the passion of drum corps, and the mark that they will leave. Don't dissappoint them with the negativity.
  9. Always the same ISSUES,....seems to have all the questions and not one answer!!!! But at least we now know,.....he is blessed with looks!!!!
  10. Not in any particular order, impact, or revelance, just top 12 of "ALL-TIME" Santa Clara Vanguard Cavaliers Blue Devils Cadets( Garfield and Cadets of Bergen County, Holy Name,...all of them) Phantom Regiment Royal Aires 27th Lancers Boston Crusaders Madison Scouts Bridgemen Kingsmen Star of Indiana
  11. Some people's kids ???? Always trying to stir things,....why can't everyone just enjoy good performances, no matter what division, and appreciate all the hard work that all the corps have put in for the year??? If you have ever performed at the UW-LaCrosse Stadium, and experienced the appreciative crowd, you will never forget it. Be there if you can.
  12. My corps dues in 1971 were $150. We were not fed everyday,...and our meal money came out of pocket except on the end of year tour which only lasted 9-12 days. We were given a daily food allowance each day so we didn't have to carry a lot of cash with us. We did not eat as well as the kids do today. My tuition for college for one semester in 1971 was $221. Enough said,....... Drum corps was,...and still is today,....a BARGAIN!!!!!
  13. Marketing 101 people,....get a grip!!!! I would hate to hear your reviews of the last episode of Lassie. Oh,....they should have shown more of Timmy crying,...why didn't we see Grampa in this episode????,......Timmy has a girlfriend named Carmen,...but she was nowhere to be found!!!!
  14. July 19th,.....spread from Blue Stars to OC 7 points. July 24th,.....less than 1 point. ?????????
  15. Late 60's, early 70's. Rumbles and fights were always talked about, because a few had occured (mostly brought on by staff). We heard about fights and scuffles, saw very few,...but on one East Coast swing, we were lectured on what could happen if push came to shove. We were simply told that if you had to defend yourself or your corps honor, go ahead,....but if you got into it with the Boston Crusaders guard,...you were on your own,...cause they could whoop up on anyone!!!!!!
