  1. if you do a quick google search....you can find an amazing pit tune from UMass's pit. They played Paranoid Android by Radiohead, simply amazing. Kudos to Seth Adams for arranging that. He also arranged Everything In It's Right Place by Radiohead as a warm up that we used at Magic in 2003. I wish I had a recording of that.
  2. Well for me.... this is lame I know.... but I'd get excited when we'd figure out a new way to load the equipment truck to make it quicker and safer for the equipment. or in 2004...it was finding a Sonic near our housing site or show site.
  3. Too late, the Spirit of Disney award (or whatever it's called) has been around for a while.
  4. I would have prefered if DCI would have just flipped a coin. Or, if they were lookin to make a quick dollar.....they should have chosen the 6 corps by who had the most paid for downloads off of DCI.org.
  5. ::::yawn:::: ....doesn't care about order for this event.
  6. G trumpets, when you peel off the wrapper, have chocolate inside of them. Bb trumpets on the other hand, are filled with creamy nouget.
  7. Agreed on Stone Ground Seven. Although, if I had to pick one of my favorite "solos," I'd go with the Tenor break in BD 95.
  8. Just found this article from last year... http://www.drumcorpsworld.com/articles.cfm?id=693
  9. Phantom Regiment 2001 Opener....front ensemble starts the lick followed by the mellos in unison.
  10. Well he's obviously gonna move to Casper...why not? It's got the largest percentage of liquor stores per square mile in the country! (or so I was told by someone who marched the Troop)
  11. To this day....I still wonder what would have happened if TBT didn't merge with KK. I remember the first few winter camps were awesome and had a HUGE turnout, we even had kids coming from other states for the first time! Then the merger came about....then a post on RAMD got me to drive up to Rockford.
  12. Ah, how I love hearing people say that the pit doesn't work. As someone previously said, front ensemble members are constantly moving and lifting equipment. I think I lost most of my weight from being the truck so much. It was like bein in a sauna, but instead of sittin around naked with a towel....i was in there lifting marimba's and vibraphone's over my head (well....usually almost naked) I never really bulked up in muscle on tour, I'd just get really toned, especially in the calves. Pushing a 5 octave beast of a marimba with cymbals and other junk attatched to it around the country. I probably would have gained some serious weight in 2002 at Phantom if the original plan of having 4 members of the pit march during the piano concerto would have gone thru (kinda glad it didn't...would have been cool though) Unfortunately, strapping a full set of bells, 18in gong drum, 8in snare drum, and a mounted cymbal was too much for the harnesses to handle...
  13. man......y'all are missing one of the biggest needs for tour... B U G S P R A Y ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! I never kept a bag, mainly cause I would keep my essentials in the back of my stick bag hanging from my Marimba. Sunblock, Bugspray, disposable camera, shammy, and a watch (a cheap one from a gas station that I didn't care about) Never brought valuables to the field. Kept them all well hidden, well, the few valuables I brought on tour. Although in the pit, we generally shared when out on the field.
  14. So i've spent the last couple hours today ripping my 72-07 cd's onto my laptop and it's led me to think....what happened to Canada in DCI? There's currently only 3 corps competing from our northern neighbors now. I understand that corps fold and all...but it's almost like the activity just died up there. I marched with a plethora of canadians (mainly drummers). Is there just not a big enough talent base up there? What's the deal? There used to be so many perenial finalists from Canada back in the day. Heck, there was a ton of div 2-3 corps from Canada my rookie year in 2000....and I remember pretty much each one of them stomping all over us in competition.
  15. in "my day" Napster got shut down during tour. ....but then literally a couple days after we saw the newspaper headline in one city, we saw another paper saying it was back. .....I also remember playing at 8am in the morning at div 2/3 regionals, to the crowd of our bus drivers and staff...since they were the only one's there.
  16. So I saw a post mentioning this.... I'm planning on sponsoring a front ensemble member, do I need to make the donation directly to the corps (and tell them to apply it to the members dues) to get the tax write off?? Thanks.
  17. I'll jump into this one finally.... If you're under 21, and not marching this summer....then I highly suggest joining Pioneer. The more experience you've got on the road, the better your chances will be in the future if you ever decide to go elsewhere. I know this first hand, by marching a div 2/3 corps for 2 years...if I wouldn't have marched those 2 years, I NEVER would have made Phantom when I did. I've met some great people from the organization and marched with a ton of pioneer alumni. The $1700 is a bargain in my opinion compared to some dues out there, but it's the economy that's jacking up tour dues. Pioneer has everything that a world class corps needs, trucks, buses, new equipment, etc. Don't sit on your ### this summer because you didn't make that top 5 corps you auditioned for and didn't make. You'll regret it. (I still to this day regret not marching in 1999 when I had an opportunity to fill a hole in the Kiwanis Kavaliers at the age of 15)
  18. 2 seats left in the Land Rover. Come on central floridians...I know there's tons of y'all out there that aren't marching this summer.
