  2. Back to Cartoons/ anime music. I actually think the music from the Adult Swim show "InuYasha" would be just fantastic for a show. I know that the concept would be demanding to say the least, but I'd love the chance to see and hear a show with that concept. Hint: If a corps ever plays that, please play "Every Heart" as the ballad. That song just summerizes a lot of loose ends in the storyline. $1 to myself (I had the concept thought out for DCP-I this past summer which was well received, look back to see what songs and where in the series or games that they're from)
  3. Actually, I believe Cadets roughly average $2500-$2750 a year while Crossmen stay hovering around $2000 a year.
  4. Umm... John? All in all, it's not our decision to make a DCI corps choose a different show because it doesn't seem appealing. Sure, a show at the beggining of the season may not hit you correctly, but as the season wears on, and the show gets adjusted, changed, and has a complete overhaul at times, the crowd grows to love it. Also, some DCI corps try to pull off shows that both the judges and the crowd will enjoy at the same time, but I'd say 7 out of 10 times, it usually goes to the fans side and the judges hate it. Perfect Example: Velvet Knights in the early 90's, I believe, when the Floats were in their first year at the helm of the Percussion, the show and the corps was overhauled to be fully competitve. But, the fans and alumni pushed so hard to get them to go back to being the fun corps from California and so the corps ended up being in the lower part of Semis. That's why we need to just back off and let the shows take us where they may and the performers do their best. Change is good for most corps. What do you think would be the outcome if VK actually stayed on the trail that they had going before they were pressured to retro itself to being who they were? I think VK could've stayed around and very well may be still here today. That's why crowds should just not pressure or just flat out tell these corps to go back to typical styles just because we want them to. unfortunately, IT'S NOT ALL ABOUT US! THE JUDGES HAVE THE MOST SAY, THE CROWDS NEED TO GET OFF OF THE STEREOTYPICAL ENTOURAGES THAT WE HAVE AND KEEP THE OPEN MIND ABOUT WHAT A CORPS IS DOING. *stepping off my soapbox*
  5. Ok, then what would you say about the Cavalier "dynasty" from 200-2004 (with the exception of 2003 when BD just had it all) but I digress. Now, Cadets have had a lot of good lines since the 2000 season up until this year. (Cadets 2000, though you can hear a tick which I think was from Tim Greene (Center Snare that year)was just INSANE! ). I haven't heard 2001's show and I've only heard 2002's show maybe 3 time total. Now then, the 2003 line was just as sweet and maybe moreso than the 2000 line. 2004, well.... not my cup of tea with what I am used to from Cadets, but what I heard from 05 and the solos like the Tenor solo (just sweet and ####s-out no worry attitude). So yes, I think the Cadets have established a Dynasty, just like the Cavaliers had a championship Dynasty from 2000-2003 and all the other Dynasties that occured in DCI's history.
  6. How about we keep the Retro Songs from since DCI was created, but have the drill as after 1981 (or whenever 90% of corps used Aymmetrical(sp?) Drill). Like a progress from the first asymmetrical(sp?) drill movements up to what Cavaliers and Cadets pull off nowadays. Now THAT would be cool.... Just a thought...
  7. What he said.... and Gene, that would be sweet. But hey, next best thing, right? My D.C. fantasy: Marching Crossmen at finals night of my Age-out year.
  8. Then that guy should just leave that corps.
  9. Shenandoah wants to.... all depends on the number of people at the open house..... which reminds me that I need to tell the PR guys to get a topic going on that.
  10. umm.... no. Now back to the topic and my .02. I don't think that fans should bash a corps. I don't mind the statement, "I just didn't like that show". That statement is my opinion about the Blue Devil's 2005 program, I just didn't like the music nor the drill. Now, onto the real bashing of corps. In both DCI and DCA (I know, this is a "Junior Corps" Forum, but this is all inclusive), corps are being judged not by product, but scores and prestige. I know of fans who go out and audition for Junior Corps, but when they don't make it and I tell them about Shenandoah Sound, they laugh at me and tell me that they'll only march with a "champion" Drum Corps, not a "lesser" drum corps with little chances. Now this gets me thinking. "What is a "Champion" Drum Corps? Is it a corps that has at least one title to their name with the best staff they could afford? Or is it a corps who goes out, no matter what happens, and does the job regardless of judges scores?" If the latter is true, then aren't we all in a way "Champion" Drum corps? Who's to say that the unforunate corps in the lower tiers of DCI and DCA wouldn't become better with more people wanting to march to say, "I marched with this corps from "so-and-so" year to this year and I didn't get a title, but I don't care about it, I'm just happy to march." What is the problem with the kids who do not audition for DCI corps in general? If you live near a corps of any type, DCI or DCA, then at least give them the opportunity to see you and to let you know what they are about. Who knows? If you can't march DCI just yet, then take DCA and have a very limited schedule as a "weekend warrior" while getting the experience that all get from marching. That is what ticks me off about some of the players who are around the Drum Corps area who don't look at all available options for marching. Just a thought from a fellow marcher who wants to see the activity grow in all areas.
  11. MAPS Division 1: Potomac River Knights The Engineers Division 2: The Stake Drivers Division 3: Caboose Senior: The Railroad Workers
  12. I know for a fact that Shenandoah would have you two for Percussion in a heartbeat. Depending on the turnout (and how my hopes for DCI marching occur), the Percussion outlook will be overhauled. But anyway, I hope to meet you all in November.
  13. *PRESS RELEASE TO ALL DCP FANTASY CORPS DIRECTORS* The Mid-Atlantic Performance Series would like to announce their 2006 winter season plans. Mr. Smith states in this Announcement: "I have just finished talking to the administration and we have decided that The Engineers will go to Division 1 Competition and a new corps will be created for Division 2 and a new corps for Division 3. The new corps names are.... The Stake Drivers and Caboose! I believe that these corps will be very successful in the years ahead. Be aware, that Caboose is in no way degreading to the corps, just they are in Division 3 and will be used more for a stepping stone for the younger generation. Now, onto different matters. I am stepping down from being the head arranger for the corps and have hired people who are very good in arranging parts for Horns and Percussion. However, if needed, I will provide my points of view on the parts. We have also figured out our shows for this up-coming winter season." The Shows are as follows in Division Order. Division 1: Potomac River Knights: "The Greatest Adventure of all time: DRAGONBALL" The Engineers: "From Don Juan to Pancho Villa: The Men of Spanish Lore" Division 2: The Stake Drivers: "Love and Tragety: Romeo and Juliet" Division 3: Caboose: Come along for the ride: "Around the World in 80 Days" Senior Division: The Railroad Workers: "Festivus!" "We will announce the show's respectable songs and the Corps' Staves in the weeks ahead. Thank You." *THIS CONCLUDES OUR PRESS RELEASE*
  14. Oh heck no! I'll attend, but not wear a white shirt. Besides, I didn't even bring one.
  15. Man, I hate delayed flights . I just arrived and will be getting some sleep and thinking of rules proposals. Maybe I'll join a game of poker if I get an invite or something. Hopefully, I'll be up to hear the announcements. BTW, what time are the announcements? *Signs in, gets name tag, and goes to room*
  16. All right all you chuckle heads, the 2006 season looks to be very competitive, although this past year was very fun. Now, since there's a thread about this in the DCI forum, why not have one here? My question is this: Aside from the corps who have announced their shows and has their own topics about the upcoming season, which corps would you like to see play which shows next season? And yes, this includes all possible corps for Prelims/finals this coming year (a.k.a. a crap load of corps).
  17. I do not mind the amplification to an extent. Amping of the voice should be outlawed but all the nuances like brushes and such that you don't typically hear is perfect. Allows for more to be heard. The voice should not be taken onto the field unless the entire corps stops playing and sings part of a tune (a-la Crown 04 "Nothing really matters, anyway the wind blows") That's fine and dandy, just not a solo person singing or a friggin quartet. Now, onto the topic at hand.... Woodwinds should not be allowed at all. Why have an instrument out there in which you can tune your hornline to? I know that with a very good tuning job (btw, when is tuning going to be included in Brass Performance?) a Baritone/ Mellophone line can sound like a Saxophone line (just about 20 times louder and loud is good). I just think that some of the brass staves don't want to have to meticulously tune each instrument to get the effect and instead going with a "ballpark range" (about a 1/2 step to a whole step off either way, as long as enough are in tune). In that case, have a second set of those horns (Keep the older ones longer and save a little $$) and have them tuned to the pitch needed for that effect. Worked very well for SCV, why not if you want that woodwind sound without actually having woodinds? Just a suggestion so people get the sounds they want, but without un-needed instruments.
  18. My show concept (probably wouldn't be done by renegades, but a good challenge for any/all corps): "Fanasties and Visions" Songs are: Selections from "Spanish Fantasy" By Chick Corea with "Visions of Flight" sandwiched in as the ballad and as a little refresher before a grand finale of S.F. Granted, this would be going into Cab territory. However, I believe this would be very well received and unexpected from the Renegades and it would be a good thing to hear for Drum Corps Fans. Just a suggestion....
  19. I'd like 2 shows under my corps organization: Baltimore, MD (M&T Bank Stadium)= Potomac River Knights Shepherdstown, WV (Shepherd College Stadium)= The Engineers
