  1. shhh.... Potomac River Knights and The Engineers are looming....
  2. Jeff, with what I heard and read. MVE's members are the second toughest SOB's in Drum Corps. (no offense, but we have to keep our reputation you know?)
  3. <**> <**> <**> This guy should just shut his trap. He just opened up pandora's box. Glad to see you don't know much. Shame as to how shallow and frankly, idiotic, some people are.
  4. It was a good show, IMO. Yes, we had a lot of small-er corps in the show. However, everyone who I did hear did a fantastic job. From the time I actually got there until I left was a blast. I feel sorry for you, MCL I remember hearing parts of your show, but the utter confusion in our camp with getting everything cleared until we got doused on. With what I heard, I enjoyed. Kudos for returning to the field and going over it from the top. Even though I admit I left during the storm. Back to overall, do I think the crowd could've been larger? Yeah, but I'm happy with what sized crowd we got, especially with the problems given by the weather. Do I think that the advertisement should've been more wide scaled? Indeed, but if we have another show, it'll be better advertised and a bigger crowd will embark on it. I wish to thank everyone, on behalf of myself and Shenandoah Sound, who did appear at the show for attending and/or performing, even if I did not meet you face to face. See you all at Ro-Cha-Cha.
  5. Actually, I heard from many people that we actually out did Fran with the "Loudest-shirt" contest. It was a fun show and I had a great time. I left during the rain delay since, well my family was ready to leave because of the rain and such. Pity, I wanted to see the CorpsVets and Marines.
  6. I use a Hazy Ambassador Snare Side on my personal snare and it does a very good job. You shouldn't have much of a problem with them. Nice response with White Maxes (at least in my experience)
  7. All of MAPS have changes to make. However, I am very pleased that PRK stood their ground exceptionally well in a head on collision against Mystre'. These last few weeks will be very interesting. To say the least.
  8. As reported in the "DCA 2006 Line Up thread"... and I guess I will confirm it for everyone. Shenandoah Sound is in Mini-Corps this year. Membership is low due to injury and family issues throught the entire corps. Plus, with us hosting a show and trying to compete in the DCA South shows would put too much burden on the corps in both areas of importance. We are still around, just as a Mini corps in 2006. We'll be back in 07.
  9. I'll let one of the others state our reasoning for Shenandoah's silence. We're still here, mind you. Just we want to be on the down-low, you know?
  10. As much as I hate to do this, you still missed PRK's Music Ensemble change. Nothing against who won at the Eastern show, it wouldn't affect the top 3 I think, but I think the score was low for us. Congrats to the winners of the Regionals.
  11. I almost feel corry for my East coast counter-part, Rosselle Park. Since it looks as though he's getting double trouble from PRK and The Engineers. We may have been associated before, but the rivalry never ends. Oh and.... STAKE DRIVERS TAKE THE DCP-East crown for D2! YAY!!!!!
  12. DANG IT! This is NOT the guy I wanted to face off against!!! If you see a smear on the building's wall after he's done... it's me.
  13. A word to the wise from a man who's marched Dundalk, Towson, Catonsville and Havre De Grace: Dundalk is a long parade, if you are a drummer, you will hate this parade. 3.5 miles, but it is like 99.9999% flat, so no real issues with elevations. Towson is a modest Up one hill, down another hill parade. However, the two hills are huge, and the level ground you have is short lived. Catonsville: A hill to begin, but then straight and flat for the rest of the way. I seem to remember no turns, just straight. Havre De Grace: Fun parade, some turns.... nothing too strenuous as I seem to remember. Overall distances: Dundalk, 3.5 miles, Towson: I believe 1.5-2 miles could be wrong, Catonsville: 2.5 miles, Havre De Gace: 2.5 miles. Have fun and be safe.
  14. Outside interference caused this latest change to occur. Thankfully, a site was found.
  15. Talk to Vic on that one. All I know is that Shenandoah won the A-35 championship in DCA-South and we were the only one in that division. I took it somewhat like an insult to this corps to be the only competiting corps and win this "championship" for "A-35". However, what the higher ups in DCA-South do is their business. And yes, Tom is our corps director's name.
  16. I know I sent in Stake Drivers and Caboose, check your e-mail
  17. Ha! He claims he has countless veterans from the top Corps in the nation. Yet, all of the vets that you tried to contact in my organization (MAPS) were all age-outs or already committed to the corps. I think I lost 10 to age-outs, 5 to monetary issues and 3 to outside problems. Yeah, that's in the Horn line, percussion kept all but 2 performers and color guard lost 15 members. So yeah, PRK lost 35 members, Engineers lost 40; 5 of which went to PRK, Stake Drivers lost 20; 4 went to Engineers, and Caboose lost 3 sinced they were moved up to the Stake Drivers.
  18. Hmm... I don't buy Cadets dropping that far down to 4th or 5th, maybe third is a possibility, but come on, 4th-6th? I severely doubt it. Also, I didn't see Vanguard this past season so I don't know what the whole shibang is about. So do I think SCV will make finals, you bet your ###! Do I expect a top 8 for Vanguard? no, but a pleasant surprise if they do. Now, onto Blue Stars, A hard working corps finally back in D1, however good this seems, I don't see Stars making Semis, maybe 18th and barely missing Semis but not above 17th. So with that being stated my predictions are: Top 5 (in any order of the following corps): Cadets (possible title #10, but won't be surprised to see them edged like Star was by Cadets in '93) Cavaliers (after last year, Cavies will be on the prowl and out for blood, machine + Cassella's writing = top 2 in Drums for Cavies, could be upset by others though) Blue Devils (Yowza, last year's program hit the fan... Godfather will make the judges an offer they can't refuse, don't see a title for BD but a good dogfight for second) Phantom (Good program, retaining of staff from past years and working more and more gives them an edge, 3rd-4th place is my prediction for them) Madison (Carmen was spectacular, and that momentum will show this season (3rd-5th is very possible) Rest of top 12 could be (no order, just possibilities) Bluecoats Glassmen Crown Crossmen (After last year's disaster, Metheny will bring prestige back to Ol' Bones) Capital Regiment Southwind Santa Clara Vanguard 13-23 will be a dogfight but once again in no particular order: Blue Stars Pioneer Esperanza (Close, but no cigarette, get some more members and you'll be golden) Pacific Crest (Same as Esperanza, wants it but needs the members, reminds me of another corps in DCA) Seattle (Loved 2003, saw snipps of 2004 and enjoyed 2005 but no dice... Semis are a lock, but no finals) Mandarins Colts (could give a run at Glassmen, Crossmen or Cap. Reg no clear spot for them) Magic (Liked 2003, disliked 2004, Beddis' Percussion Writings and other experience may help but no Finals, Semis unlikely but the seeds will be planted for a push in 2007, solidified finalists by 2009 at latest) Boston (too much talent in other corps to help make the push, I'd say 10-14th place range) BK (read my opinion about boston's possible Finals miss, but could squeak in as 11-12th) Spirit of JSU (good foundations, just need evelopment of the entire program and find a new source to tap)
  19. From a previous post by me: I'll see if I can answer this... Fantasy Drum Corps is basically you can create a fake Drum corps that is used to face off against other fake corps over an extended period of the Drum and Bugle Corps Season. You can create the name, uniform type, music selections, whatever you wish. However, make sure that you don't try to recruit real people for a fantasy thing (I've seen it on another Fantasy Corps organization I'm in). From there, you can announce who you have as the "staff" for the fantasy corps (again, this is fantasy, you don't really need to have written agreements by the instructors and such). Captions are selected by you from the standings based off of the last year's finals (this is the 2006 season, so you use 2005 final standings to make your selections for particular captions like GE Music, Visual, Etc.). Once that is done, you can create your tour (The announced dates and places for the "tour" will be released within the next few weeks so no need for a tour yet). During the tour you have a number of show dates/ sites that your corps MUST be a part of depending on your division, you'll find these out when the tour dates and such are announced. Then, just keep active, make a storyline if you wish and make a rivalry or do whatever, let the imagination run wild. (some corps make storylines to moderate within the show, prime example: Potomac River Knights Membership story during the "InuYasha's Journey" year, you'll have to search for that). Have fun and watch out for the typical Powerhouses in DCP-i such as Mystre', Tri-Color, Potomac River Knights (PRK for short), Oakland Skylarks, Star of Jupiter, etc.
  20. If I may state that as of this week, Shenandoah Sound is still looking for at least 2 mellophones (to complement our fantastic solist from the past few years), 3 Baritones (Low end is good and again, to compliment our phenominal solist from last year), and 2 Contras (we have none so please help!). Battery has 4 spots open and pit has 3 openings. We would be honored to take in and allow anyone from KK's move to inactivity but still wants to march to do so. Please check the DCA announcement board for more information.
  21. Ludwig is trying to get back to DCI competition status by having Southwind and Magic use them. I've heard from people who marched in the corps that they were decent, but since they were still prototypes, they were a little on the shotty side. But, with the imput of those two very recognized organizations, Ludwig should be back in DCI before too long. Now, back to the whole Premier thing. I've used them and I own a mid 1990's model Snare drum. The thing I really hate about premier is the rediculous amount of care you need to give them for the drums to sound in any way, shape, or form decent. Now for the whole Premier, Yamaha, Pearl, Dynasty, Ludwig, Andante' stuff: I have worked with and played Yamaha, Pearl, and Premier. I have not used Dynasty, Ludwig new stuff nor Andante drums. So, in my inexperienced opinion based off of what I've played and how I've tuned, Yamaha is my pick for one of the best drum companies. Pearl and Premier have a good sound and are semi-durable (when cared for correctly), but Yamaha just seems to have that tight focused sound that I prefer while being very durable. It's only my opinion based on what I've played and have worked with when I taught High School Drumlines. For me, it's Yamaha. For heads, I love Remo because they have a better feel while keeping a good tone while evans just seems too Table-top like. For Sticks, I like Vic Firth, they have a good feel and get great response for how I play and how I teach people to play. Whoop! my bad I went off topic. But yeah, for me... Yamaha Drums, Remo Heads and Vic Firth Sticks
  22. Actually, some drills are made for the more active/ younger generation. But, DCA is an actual option. More often than not, the drill is written with respect to 3 things. Those are size, balance, and how far the performer can push themselves. Shenandoah has some difficult drill because we can push ourselves but can't expand because of size. While Bucs can fly on the field because they have the size, and the willingness to push is off the charts because most of the corps are either DCI hopefuls or recent age-outs (I'd say 18-25 yrs old roughly).
