  1. Sorry, I misspoke. This show almost didn't happen because of corps who pulled out after the show had been agreed to. It was not last-minute, but certainly late enough that the show was in jeopardy. Ask Lee if you want any details. I'm NOT pointing fingers, just highlighting how difficult it is to get consensus on a big show outside of the northeast. The corps who did perform at the show that night were superb - there just should have been a couple more. IMHO, with everything they had to go through, Bush showed a lot of class that weekend.
  2. You mean like the one in 2005 that a bunch of corps pulled out of at the last minute?
  3. You should have heard Sunday's runthrough! ^0^
  4. I am very sorry to hear that Jester will not be fielding a corps this season. My heart goes out the members of the corps - stay strong and I hope to see you on the field again soon. I'll be sporting my Jester shirt as much as I can this season. Go Jester!
  5. Please tell me the band isn't still playing Stars and Stripes Rock...ugh! :P
  6. Poohbear's "Goodbye Blue Skies" solo in 2004.
  7. I spent 5 hazy years in the USC Trojan Marching Band (89-93). Got kicked out and then elected tuba section leader the next year! Ironically, the band was so anti-corps that is was very corps-like in its hierarchy!
  8. Best of luck to you this season, Sky! I look forward to seeing you this summer!
  9. I studied with Jim Self and Tommy Johnson when I was at USC. They were always coming up with some of the weirdest looking horns... Needless to say, master classes were sometimes very interesting!
  10. Yes, I read the entire post, and we were the only corps that was singled out regarding our use of G bugles. I'm not here to talk placement or numbers from previous seasons. If one wishes to make judgments about our corps based on 2006, so be it. It wasn't our best corps. However, Chris implies in his post that we don't play with balance, blend, or intonation. This is entirely untrue. I will hold our 2005 corps as being the best corps that the Renegades ever put on the field. Yes, there were minor performance issues that night, but it was a consistent show that was performed to a very high standard. I will also say that no other hornline was as in tune as we were that night, and our intonation was incredible. I defy anyone to listen to recordings from that night and tell me otherwise. 2003 was a pretty good hornline, too. I appreciate that everyone has an opinion and they are entitled to them, but I don't believe that the assessment Chris gave us reflects what we have brought to the field.
  11. Why do so many threads, including this one, degenerate into Renegades bashing? I just don't get it... <**>
  12. Some wisdom imparted to the Renegades from Frank Dorritie in 2002: "The ear will perceive clarity for volume." Play in tune with great intonation and you will be loud. Period. Doesn't matter what key your hornline is in.
  13. Sounds like you are off to a great start! I'm wishing all of you the best of luck for a successful year!
  14. Wow, lots of great shows lined up, and that's only the beginning! Frontier's show is definitely on my list! I played Music for Prague last year with my wind orchestra and it was one of the most powerfullly emotional pieces I have ever played. Best of luck to you guys in '07!
  15. I completely disagree with your assertion. I even went back and re-read EVERY one of Sara's posts and I cannot find ONE personal attack in any of her posts on this topic. She is trying to bring some level of discourse to this discussion because she and many people (including myself) happen to think this is of great importance to our activity. And many of us are very upset at the direction OUR circuit seems to be heading. It appears that in making a completely fallacious statement, YOU personally attacked Sara. All she has been doing is passionately articulating her position. And the best you could do is to insult her? Bring something to the discussion or just stay out of it.
  16. Maybe they're just jealous because we don't have to shovel snow in the wintertime.
  17. After reading this entire thread, I can't help but think that this is very similar to the expansion of Major League Baseball. When the Dodgers and Giants moved to California in 1958 there were a lot of naysayers. It absolutely freaked out the baseball establishment, which was considered to be a predominantly Northeast network. Did they enact rules to limit the Dodgers' and Giants' voices in the league's decision making, or not allow them to compete in the World Series? No. There were many who just wanted to see the Dodgers and Giants fail and go away, because they were now from the West Coast. In fact, the farthest west any team was in 1957 was the Kansas City Athletics. Part of the decision for the move out West was that the Dodgers' owner saw a very lucrative market that was untapped. He also wanted to see the activity expand. The move turned out to be a very good one for both the Giants and Dodgers, even if my Giants still haven't won a World Series since the move! Fact: In 1958 there were 16 major-league teams. Fact: There are now 30 Major League teams all across the country, with minor-leage and college baseball being as popular as ever, too. What can we learn from this? We need to get over our regional "Holier than Thou" attitudes and realize what is best for our activity. Limiting voices is not how you expand an activity, no matter what that activity may be. Otherwise you end up with the Good 'ol Boys' network trotting out the same tired product year after year after year. The path toward expansion is inclusion. I firmly stand behind Lee. Go Giants!
  18. Amen to that! I'm also curious about how many of these G-Bugle bashers have actually heard a great G-horn line. Yes, there are some great Bb hornlines now, but to be able to argue one side or the other takes knowledge of both. Just my $.02.....
  19. If I remember correctly, didn't the folks in Marion change their street names during the U.S. Open weekend to the names of different drum corps and important people in the activity? I thought that was really cool...
