  1. People, think about the opportunity you're overlooking here. Want to boost attendance at DCA shows? Well, a lot of hockey fans go to see the fights, right? Why not let the fans and staff show up to competitions with bluefish clubs, brass knuckles, baseball bats and such. Whatever they want (firearms and explosives excluded, of course). What better motivation for corps members themselves to blow the walls down with a ballsy performance than the chance to see their staff get all riled up in response, to the point that it just torques the fans off, causing all hell to break out. I know the guys and gals I taught when I was there would have just loved seeing me torn limb from limb for the crap I made them play. I personally know many fans who want to beat the crap out of staffs for no other reason than the esoteric shows they've been offering up over the last decade or two. Think of all the drum corps purists who don't go to shows anymore. They'd FLOCK back if they thought they could break some knees on a Saturday night under the stars in the name of old time drum corps and get away with it. And I know Fran would do a bang up job doing blow-by-blow commentary. It could be awesome. Just my opinion.
  2. If that's not what's supposed to happen at a "competition" then boy am I confused.
  3. But this was the "clean" laundry. The dirty stuff isn't ready yet. (Videos and photos are currently in production). P.S. You think you know Fran Haring pretty well, don't ya.
  4. Bye Bye Frankie

  5. Thanks Frankie boy. By the way. Those forums have been up and running without pause since they opened in 2007. You were probably banned. OK folks, I didn't intend to veer this thread off so far to the dark side. I made my point and won't be responding to bonehead anymore.
  6. Regardless of the denials, SunRifle's condescension and disrespect need not be any more glaring if you ask me - (and yes, I realize no one did). "..SO CALLED DRUM CORPS.." and "..dance troupes.."? Really? Please. But that's to be expected of someone who harbors bitterness about being unable to keep up with the activity, thinks what THEY did in THEIR time needs to be continually trumpeted as the height of the drum corps activity, and who probably still has a rotary phone at home. Sorry. This stuff gets tiring for me.
  7. Or better yet, if you're so sick and tired of hearing instruments being referred to by their real names and it offends you, go watch something else, not DCA. Furthermore. if you can't even spell "contra bass" and "soprano" correctly, it may just be time to pack it in completely.
  8. Terrible. I am sincerely sorry Fran, and condolences go out to you and yours from Lora and I. I don't feel a need to urge you to stay strong because it's clear that's what you've been doing all along. You've done all you can. Get some rest, my friend.
  9. Jane, you ignorant slut. To be accurate, "what happened in 2007" was most certainly NOT a case of members from the previous year returning to fill the unfilled ranks in the following year. The veterans that stepped in during the 2007 season to fill remaining blanks - every one of them brass players - had retired a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away. They heard the names Guillen and Williams and knew there was hope for a renewed Sunrisers. They were what I always refer to as "warriors". And they complemented perfectly a nucleus of hard-working holdovers from 2006 who had the character and dedication necessary to not only make the commitment, but also to endure a very difficult season in which each and every one of them grew ultimately into a champion. P.S. In the future I recommend that any questions intended for the Competing Corps regarding how they're doing be directed to the Competing Corps and not posted on the Alumni site. It's an apples-n-oranges kind of thing. We return you now to our regularly scheduled broadcast......

  22. Tom, Under Jim Dyckman's direction we've been working hard over the last year to set the stage for the corps return in 2009. We should be posting some announcements soon. Thanks so much for the nice words. Stay tuned. Dave Franceschina
  23. I wish I could adequately express how awesome it is to hear such words of support from people in the corps community. Thanks to all. Jim Dyckman's press release at the top says it all, but if I could offer one last bit of embellishment based on hearing how the rumors have been circulating: When the focus is close up - down on the level of one single competitive season span of time - it's tempting for some on the outside to use words with more serious tone to describe our situation (i.e "inactive", "folded", whatever) when in reality we're just not competing in 08. But after all, Drum Corps is what we do, and if you're standing on the retreat field this summer looking across the field (or, for that matter, in the stands looking out at the corps) and you don't see Sun standing there the first thing that comes into your mind is most certainly NOT going to be "I'm so glad they're 'retooling for the future!'". If anything you'll probably just think about how you wish there were more corps there. But our focus is not close-up. We're looking at this long term. The bigger picture requires us to make bigger decisions and changes than normal. Think of it as a NASCAR race. We've taken a pit stop that we would have been forced to take at some point in the future given the long term goals we set at the start of 2007. The best time for this is now. We're excited about the prospects for the future. We're disappointed that we can't be there with you guys this year but we're also excited for what's in store. Dave Franceschina Sun Management
