  1. Good for the Mandarins. They're guard is vastly improved this year.
  2. Lower scores are just making room for all on the playing field.
  3. I think it's more because we're in the middle of a super long intermission. Really? 6:40? REALLY?
  4. Let's try that again http://----------/xview.php?eid=711&xid=2073&ext=jpg
  5. Jersey Surf on the field: http://----------/xview.php?eid=711&xid=2073&ext=jpg
  6. Unfortunately not in the crowd, just sharing jewels from Twitter. Many mentions of it though say that it is causing sound problems :-(

  10. Show is in progress, but don't know how far they've gotten.
  11. They're staffing. I'll definitly post if I hear anything!
  12. Already did, but my peeps are probably busy either with preparing for performance, in performance or waiting for scores. Haven't heard back yet!
  13. FYI - I got a text around 8pm that the show had been delayed. I didn't hear back on whether it had begun again or not.
  14. I can print/deliver for you. I'm meeting up with PC on Saturday morning.

  16. QUOTE (spinninstephanie @ Feb 26 2008, 07:44 PM) I don't consider anything in my above post an insult, ESPECIALLY if you consider yourself to be "middle ground." The generalization at the end of the post is geared towards those who starkly oppose dance or the current changes involved in the activity. Well, actually, you've said you can't believe that I have the opinion I do, and this comment -- "I really don't understand how some of you think, or maybe don't think." -- is pretty close to some replies you posted earlier to me. I think basically it's what someone said earlier, that you and I have a fundamental difference of what we expect to see on the field and/or floor. So we're never going to reconcile our beliefs one with the other. As another poster suggested, I think we're simply going to have to respectfully agree to disagree, and leave it at that. ________________________________________________________________ I believe you're mixing me up with another poster. I am not the one that said I can't believe that you have your opinion and the quote you provide above. I believe oldtimedrummer is the one that posted that message.

  18. I really didn't want to insert myself into this heated discussion, but I have something to bring up. It seems like both sides of this topic both prefer their side because it is what appeals to them directly. The guards of the 70's and 80's were known for their precision, cleanliness and ability to execute a wide variety of difficult tricks. I appreciate the guards of today for a completely different reason. In MY humble opinion, I feel the choreography and design that is being asked of colorguard students today is much more artistic and expressive than the choreography of past decades. As it's already been said, movement and dance have been used by people for thousands of years as an art form, and colorguard today focuses more on the artistic expression of the music rather than executing straight musicality and "tricks." If you have never been a fan of ballet and dance, then it's hard to all of a sudden appreciate it the same way as someone who has been dancing since they were 5. Is it more difficult to see from far away? Yes, if you're not open to paying attention. Is it less "clean?" Yes, as each student now has the opportunity to insert their individual personality into the choreography. But I prefer these things. I'd rather see an artist's interpretation of music through movement and equipment (even if it differs from mine) rather than a show that is just meant to be impactful and crowd pleasing. I also preferred learning choreography like this as it is mentally challenging as well as physically challenging. Again, a personal preference, especially since I have a focused dance background in colorguard. Each audience member has a preference, so nothing is going to make everyone happy. If you don't like what the colorguards of today have to offer, go watch your videos!
  19. Oyyyyyyyyy. I think I'm going to need a martini before this one.
