  1. Hey Tim, do you remember Chad Sexton the snare drummer 1987. I think he was from Railmen. I could be wrong. That kid was a character and great drummer. I don't know if he marched 1988 or not. Someone said he is a drummer for a rock band called 311. I took a look at their web site. He must have changed a lot,if that is him.
  2. I remember several Railmen who joined Sky Ryders in 1987 and several aditional who showed up for the winter tryout camps for the 1988 season.
  3. I saw the show live. I liked the show but I'm just not a real Phantom Fan. I like the presence and power the Scouts, Cavaliers and the Blue Devils projected. I'm not bashing them, Phantom is a real good Drum Corps. Classical just doesn't keep my attention. Does that make me shallow? Probably.
  4. The last time I saw them, I thought they were a solid group with the Knights Inn Motel sponsorship. What happened to make Geneseo go away?
  5. We need a Drum Corps station on cable. And a national radio show.
  6. Yep, I have my sheet music in a scrapbook my sister made for me along with my drum corps pictures. B)
  7. I liked marching in the West Side Story Show better. As far as tour enjoyment, the 1985 Wizard of OZ was better bacause the buses worked.
  8. I remember the Troopers in 1985. To me, They are the dum corps tradition.
  9. I don't remember what the actual dues were. I know I spent $700 to march Sky Ryders in 1985 and $800 in 1997. I didn't march 1986 and 1988 because I was flat broke and my parents wouldn't give me the money. I marched corps the old fashioned way, I eeeaarned it.
  10. I regret not marching my age out year of 1988 with the Sky Ryders. I made it through the try outs with a real strong performance.
  11. I vote Sky Ryders. We need more drum corps in fly over country. The Sky Ryder winter guard ROCKS. Very strong performances. They just need some horns, drums and a pit. Note:There is a current discussion group for a senior corps in the KC area on yahoo groups under Prairie Sound Drum & bugle Corps.
  12. I only marched once in the 1987 finals with Sky Ryders. I just tried to soak up everything I could about the whole experience. When the Drum Major counted off to start the show, I remember thinking ok we're here, nail this. I still have not bought the tape. I've only seen crude tapes the instructores showed us of dress rehersals. Everything was automatic by this time, I didn't have any brainlock what so ever. We came in 12th and I left my black golves on the field with my name in them. I guess I knew marching my age out year just wasn't in the cards. As we marched off the field I felt satisfied with what I did and what the corps did.
  13. Could not would not tell anyone what happened on the bus. No way no how. Now the busses mechanically was a different story. A very long story. <**>
  14. Before I joined the Sky Ryders in 1985 I wore out a finals tape with a Spirit of Atlanta sop player who was awsome. Don't know his name but it was in the early 80s show
  15. I liked performing in the 1985 Wizard of OZ show. We had not reached our peak by finals. If the season was a week longer we would have. The 1987 West Side Story was a more serious and intense show that I also enjoyed being in. The only part I did not like about the tour was the everyday bus breakdowns. Getting ready to play baritone again for an upstart senior corps in KC.
  16. I marched Sky Ryders in 1985 and 1987. In 85, we had a mostly emerald uniform with black pants and emerald cadet hats. This was the 1st Wizard of OZ show which had the judges dumbfounded the entire season. They just hadn't seen anything like it and would not give us the score we thought we deserved. <**> They made up for their misdeed in 1986 when The corps finished 9th at Finals. :) I marched again in 1987 in the West Side Story show and had fun even with the numerous bus breakdowns. :( West Side Story was an intense show that I think appealed to a lot of people. The black uniform for the low brass was kinda hot for performing in the sun. Luckily, most of our performances were at night, thanks to the 1986 finish. We finished 12th at Finals in 87. I liked the King Bugles. I wish they still made them. Oh well, I guess Kanstul is the substitute.
