  1. Not all merged corps managed to come-up with a new name for their combined entity. Right around 1980, 2 Illinois corps, the Firemen and the Vaqueros, merged to become.....wait for it.....The Firemen-Vaqueros. Half the corps wore firefighter uniforms. Half wore gauchos, open vests and Mexican cowboy hats. Surreal.

  3. Imogen Heap's Hide and Seek (blended with Bartok's Concerto for Orchestra) was also the theme of a very cool show by The Woodlands HS (4th at BOA Finals, AAA winner in semis) this year. The anti-amped-voices people will hate it. D.
  4. Yes, I'm still here but I'm not on WBAP anymore. After 18 years as news director, morning anchor and host, I'm now, as we say in radio "on the beach" and searching for my next opportunity. So, if someone could please launch an "All Pageantry Arts" channel on satellite TV in the next couple of weeks......that would be convenient. 5. Ummmmm....what? Dan Potter (Yes, I think I am who you think I am...but who you think I am is not really....oh, nevermind.....) My nominees: Brandt Crocker (University of Missouri scientists working on cloning right now) Don LaFontaine(sp?) (the movie trailer voice over guy) Tom Blair (many of you don't know how many times you've already heard Tom's voice in DC-related productions. It's alot) Joe Bruno (anyone who marched in a DCM corps in the 80s pines to hear Joe announce Phantom REG.......i-ment) Jim Cramer of CNBC's Mad Money Elizabeth Hurley
  6. The DCI board is still waiting on some numbers from Indy. For example, there's no firm estimate on the costs of air conditioning the new stadium. Indy can't give a hard number on costs to DCI until stuff like that is pinned down. <editted to remove off-topic material> Dan
  7. Right back atcha! I LOVE OT50! Where's this week's edition? D.
  8. Matthew, How 'bout you let me interview you about On The 50 on the new jumbotron in Madison? I bet it wouldn't be that tough to make you cry. Come on...lemme try.... Dan
  9. The Indianapolis proposal includes several incentives one of which is extra space next to the DCI offices for a DC HOF and museum.
  10. Thanks Tim and everyone else. New FP should be up in an hour or two.
  11. It's been posted that this is Phantom's first win over Cadets since '96. Michael Boo tells me I can get quick verification from y'all. I'm producing Field pass right now and gots-ta-know quick! Thanks in advance, Dan Potter
  12. Great stuff, Matthew! Look forward to it every week. It's like James Faulkner and Michael Boo and Michael Cesario had a three-headed love child. Keep 'em coming. VERY entertaining! Dan
  13. Thanks Mat! Nola Jones cracks me up. She really does cut the bottom half off those green shirts. All of the shirts are men's sizes and a small goes about to her ankles!
  14. Nope. Not me. I don't know who announced Lisle. My first show will be Bloomington/Normal.

  17. This show was a lot of fun to produce. It includes an extended interview with TV host Steve Rondinaro. Reliable Rondo comments on everything from his TV co-hosts to ESPN2 to this week's Classic Countdown. Also, Dave Gibbs, Jeff Fiedler, George Hopkins, Marc Sylvester and Wayne Downey all reveal which corps shows changed their lives. Many of the shows they mention are part of the Countdown. You can here a clip of the show here: http://www.dci.org/news/news.cfm?news_id=d...58-fba18e46a984 BTW, with the season approaching, The Field Pass is looking for story/interview ideas for the summer. If you have an idea, please contact me thru DCP or email to fieldpass@dci.org Dan Potter, host The Field Pass
  18. Just FYI: Cadets' 84 WSS was top-of-mind for BD's Wayne Downey when he was asked which non-Blue Devils' show over the years has impacted and influenced him most. You can hear what he had to say by listening to a clip of The Field Pass posted today at dci.org. http://www.dci.org/news/news.cfm?news_id=d...58-fba18e46a984 Dan Potter
  19. This month on The Field Pass with DCI's Dan Potter, the focus is on the people who attended the DCI winter meetings and the ideas they were discussing. You'll hear conversations about the future of drum corps and whether corps still have the same sense of identity they did 20 or 30 years ago. Cavaliers director Jeff Fiedler is inducted into the DCI Hall of Fame by drum corps personality Michael Cesario. The tour director of the Dutch drum and bugle corps, Jubal, tells why his corps is coming to North America this summer and Michael Boo reveals which one of the shows to make this year's DCI Classic Countdown is, perhaps, "the most siginificant drum corps show ever." All you need is your Field Pass and you can get your Field Pass each month during the off-season and each week during the summer simply by subscribing to the DCI SeasonPass website. Dan Potter, host The Field Pass

Inside access.....with your Field Pass, available exclusively to subscribers at SeasonPass.dci.org. The Field Pass is looking for story ideas for this summer. Email your ideas to fieldpass@dci.org or boxfive@comcast.net Dan Potter, host The Field Pass
  21. Me...a Saturday afternoon in 1977...the YMCA in Moline, Illinois. A bunch of kids were watching some marching bands on the TV in the Y's lobby. The broadcast went on forever...like 6 hours...live. Rode my bike home as quickly as I could to watch the rest in static-y black-and-white on the Iowa City PBS affiliate. Saw my first drum corps show live the following summer and was marching the summer after that. Little seeds get planted and grow....eventually becoming........ old men who can't give this stuff up.
