  5. I am proud to announce the Sun Devils 2013 program, “Diablada: Dance of the Devils”. “Diablada” will include the following musical selections: Candelabra Rhumba - Michael Daugherty Oblivion - Astor Piazzolla Symphonic Dance No. 3 ("Fiesta") - Clifton Williams The Diablada maintains its origins from Peruvian and Bolivian lore, however the Sun Devils will take a more modernistic approach to the ancient ritual. The Diablada is a dance characterized by a mask and devil suit worn by street performers. Diablada is a hybrid of theatrical presentations brought from Spanish and Andean religious ceremonies. The Sun Devils 2013 show will capture the essence and spirit of the Diablada through the music of Daughtery, Piazzolla, and Williams. We hope you enjoy our 2013 program, “Diablada: Dance of the Devils”.

At DCE, you will experience an entire Sun Devils camp weekend, including a performance on Sunday afternoon for friends and family!!! We have been busy preparing for the 2013 season and want to see you with us! We've already moved into our new home at Citrus High School and could not be happier! Inverness and Citrus are ready, are you?
  12. ***** SUN DEVILS OFFICIAL NEWS RELEASE ***** 9/20/2012 The Sun Devils, who have been dormant for the last two competitive seasons, have been quietly working on bolstering the corps' infrastructure. New horns, new harnesses, and a new truck are just some of the items that were needed in order to finally make a successful re-emergence. One of the most important items was a permanent home. We are excited to announce that the Sun Devils Drum and Bugle Corps will now call Citrus High School, in Inverness, FL…HOME! The final approval was signed off by the band director, principal, and the school board superintendent yesterday. On the back of that good news, RPT Percussion Theater (Indoor), one of the Sun Devils Inc., Performing Art Groups, will also be making the move to Citrus High School as well. Brian York, band director at Citrus High School, said, "we are excited to have the Sun Devils here on campus. It will be a win-win for both groups." The move was conceptualized by both Vic Kulinski, Benny Pisani. Both of whom want to see Florida drum corps continue and have representation at DCA Finals for years to come. Recruitment tables: The Sun Devils Drum and Bugle Corps, RPT, and Impact will be setting up recruitment tables at the following shows: 9/29 – Citrus High School : Hurricane Pride Invitational Marching Band Festival 10/6 – Leesburg High School : Central Florida Marching Arts Invitational 10/27 - Crystal River : Golden Pirate Invitational The 2013 staff and our first Drum Corps Experience Weekend will be announced in separate releases.
  13. Sun Devils - LND The later years in Heat Wave had - FIFE!
  14. On behalf of the entire Sun Devils organization, I would like to congratulate the members, staff, volunteers, and alumni of the Carolina Gold Drum and Bugle Corps on your 2012 DCA Class A Championship! It has been a long time coming. As someone who has seen your rise from the very beginning, I have always been a fan. From way back when I met Dana and Alby, to recently with Big Country, I knew CG was filled with people that have passion. Your passion was finally realized this past weekend. Enjoy your well deserved win! I look forward to seeing you on the field in 2013.
  15. CONGRATS to all, but a special congratulations goes out to Impact of Orlando on your very first mini corps appearance! Your Sun Devils family is VERY proud of you!!!
  16. I agree! I am speaking from recent experience in running a (DCA)drum corps in Florida. In our case, the community did want drum corps and rallied around us. The chamber of commerce even decided to foot part of the DCA contest fees as well. As far as I was concerned, we were the home town corps. Our problem began with the affordability of rehearsals. The school board was going to charge the corps, 14k to rehearse from April to June. One of the many line items was the use of an empty, unused parking lot at $20/hr even if we didn't use it. Needless to say, the corps could not rehearse at said High School due to our limited budget. Our travel budget is the lion share of our expenses and we could not afford to spend money on parking lots and empty fields. Plus anytime we want to do a show, we are traveling out of state. So right off the bat, it takes at least 7 hours to the nearest contest. DCA South was created to help alleviate Southern corps travel whoas. However in recent years, DCAS has also seen a decrease in competitive corps as well. I would love to see a regional circuit in Florida. One where we could have a mix of DCI/DCA corps perform. By next year, hopefully, there will be (DCI)Teal, (DCA)Tampa Bay Thunder, and (DCA)Sun Devils all being competitive drum corps representing Florida. As a resident of Orlando-ish, we need to keep drum corps visibility up and in a positive light. There are several band directors that are NOT pro drum corps. Keeping the DCI Orlando show and possibly 1 to 2 more DCA/DCI shows in Florida, we can show them that drum corps creates positive life changing experiences through the pageantry of the arts. <-I feel I stole that from somewhere. If not, you may quote me at will. Lastly, rehearsals here are BRUTAL. If there is no cross/seabreeze, you are going to have a bad day. Luckily, when the corps was based in North Port, FL we did have a gentle sea breeze almost 100% of the time. But when there was no breeze...melt city! All done with my off topic post...thanks!
  17. Actually, the Sun Devils (DCA) still exist in Florida. We had to sit out the 2012 season. We are currently mobilizing and restructuring for 2013. Not taking the focus off this thread. Just wanted to let the world know there will be another option for 2013 in Florida.
  18. The Sun Devils Drum and Bugle Corps would like to extend our open arms to the entire Teal Sound Family. As a fellow Florida corps that has fallen upon hard times, let's put our heads together, work together, and bring both corps back for 2013. As always, the depth and breadth of the Sun Devils is available to Teal Sound. Edit... I almost forgot NEM / LND!!!
  19. That stinks that you will not be at DCA this year, but I commend you for making an intelligent, yet difficult, decision for the future of your corps. When I was with Heat Wave back in 2006, we met MANY Dream folks and had an absolute blast. I look forward to seeing you on the field...at DCA (Unless I go to Cali)...again.
  20. *****Official Sun Devils Press Release***** This report is bittersweet. The previous posting on DCP is correct. The Sun Devils Drum and Bugle Corps will not be fielding for the 2012 season. With a full drumline and guard, we did not have enough participation from the hornline to continue the season. The management felt that, for the betterment of the corps, we should suspend activity for 2012. With the bitter comes the sweet. The Sun Devils as an organization grew this year. Impact Drum and Bugle Corps and RPT Indoor Drumline are now both a part of the Sun Devils family. Impact plans to attend the 2012 mini corps competition! Impact is based out of Orlando and is currently looking for new faces to have fun and play down a couple of blistering tunes. RPT will be led by our percussion caption head, Vic Kulinski. RPT has been given permission to continue the use of all of Sun Devils percussion equipment. Lastly, as everyone knows, we were fortunate enough to use all of the brass from North Port High School. Not having North Port as a home base created some unique challenges. We were able to borrow horns from Teal Sound and Tampa Bay Thunder and finally struck a deal to purchase horns from both corps. We are currently looking for an additional 15 horns. Subsequently, we also purchased a new equipment box truck. As the corps looks to the future, we will take a look at many factors that should hopefully bring the corps back in 2013. The infrastructure is set up for success. All we need are the members. Thank you and good luck to all corps this summer. And a special good luck to Teal Sound and Tampa Bay Thunder! LEAVE NO DOUBT!
