  1. Ace, without me getting suicidal, could you give the color guard numbers?
  2. Antoine was the judge!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! No further comment!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  3. What amazes me about all this, unless I'm mistaken, YEA has been involved with other Corps before, including a previous D.C.A. Champion. I don't recall any of these Corps all of a sudden reaping all these benefits that everyone seems to be expecting that will instantaneously change the standing of all the present member Corps of D.C.A.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  4. I think "The Blousemen" were pretty good, and probably had "HIGH SUIT", also "The Stealthmen" were highly entertaining,, I think they had "HIGH VISUAL" although it was a bit difficult to see most of their show!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  5. Post is for you Donny, thought you could use a chuckle!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  6. Hey Donny, There's a rumor circulating that since you're one of his biggest fans, and his numbers are abit low this year, that "Brigadier General" Tardy maybe looking for some assistance or input from you about leading his troops on the field this jyear. Not that HE should have any problem, but I guess he figures he may as well go to the best for any suggestions!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  7. Hey Donny, I hear that "Brigadier General" Tardy might be looking for you to help lead his troops!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  8. argumYou make a very good argument on your observation. Did you also happen to observe the direction change in The Hurcs percussion scores!!!!!!!
  9. It's Tuesday, and still no review of Tom's River show. The stands had a good amount of spectators who seemed to be enjoying all the performances, so what's up, everyone tongue-tied, or should I say TYPE-tied!!!!! "CAKES"
  10. Hi Andy,"CAKES" here. So could this have been the original cadet uni for Sun, or just the idea for it. "CAKES"
  11. Hi all, "CAKES" here. Of course if you marched in a Corps from the Boston area, I don't think anything could top a North End Parade. They were all held on a Sunday in the summer, with the Saint being honored carried down the streets, with sheets stretched out around the bottom. At most, the parade was a 1/2 mile, but they took about 6 hours to do. By the end all that was visible on the Saint was the face, they use to tape the bills like streamers from head to toe. We used to have to stop at every corner to play while they put more money on the statue, then form a line into the shrine, or club, or somebodys house, go in the front door, grab a sandweech, a shooter, and then a beer as you went out the back door, back into the line of march. This would go on all afternoon. About half way through people would start chang-ing instruments, to the point where no one was on their own. I'm saying there were times when all the drummers were playing horns and horn players were on the drums. By this time the parade powers that be just wanted lots of noise. As long as the sheets were getting full of money, they didn't seem to care. "CAKES"
  12. Hi all, "CAKES" here. On a positive note ( I think, at least), I see that we'll be sharing our beautiful park again this year!!!!!!!!!!!!! Always great to see M.B.I. across the grass!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! P.S. Hope you have a great trip out to Scrantoon!!!!!!!!! Must be gearing up right about now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Safe voyage!!! "CAKES"
  13. Hi all, "CAKES" here. One of the strangest gigs I remember ever doing, and I thing it will take something supernatural to top this one, was with The Ct. Alumni. Every year we used to do an exhibition in West Haven, Ct., it was like a fair without rides, lots of food booths arts and crafts and such. One year, after we're finished, the horn instructor, Dave Negri, tells the Corps we have another gig at a local club. The place is a jazz club, "CAFE 9" in New haven, Ct. He said we didn't have time top eat or anything, that they were already waiting for us. So we get to the club, do a quick warm-up outside, then procede inside to set-up. Setting up meant squeezing nabout 32 horns, 9 snares, 6 bass drums, 11 flags and 6 honor guard in what space was left. We were placed in the space between the bar and the tables. It was about 30 feet long and maybe 6 feet wide. I think the major directed from behind the bar, with what looked like the assistance of the bartenders as they were grabbing bottles bouncing off the bar, and actually trying to hold the mirrors from crashing down. I believe the most common response from t5he regulars was that we were the loudest act they had ever heard in there!!!!!!!!!! Talk about deafening. "CAKES"
  14. Hi all, "CAKES" here. I was trying to reply to the "drink beer" part of the prior thread, but couldn't figure out how. Definite "SENIOR" moment. My take on this is that it's Drum Corps version of that Vegas thing....."What happens on D.C.I. tour stays on D.C.I. tour". Is it my imagination, or do some of us truly believe they are all 'Touring BANDS of Angels"!!!!!!!!!!! I know tthis isn't what was intended by this thread, so lets get back to it. Would it benifit D.C.A. and the Open Class Corps by having #1 a better possibility of more shows, #2 benefit contest sponsors by having a possibility of more Corps in your show? "CAKES"
  15. I've been proposing this for some years now. Just a Jr. Division, what used to be Div. II and Div. III. A whole lot to be worked out on a logistics end, but just think of the added show possibillities for all. I've always believed this could make D.C.A. a much healthier place to be. We could have combined shows, and we could have divisional shows. A lot less likelihood that you would have shows with just 3 or 4 Corps in them. Just my thoughts. "CAKES"
  16. Hi all, "CAKES" here. The answer to your query would be Wolcott High School. The show was held on a practice field behind the school. Thye football field was to the rightr of the mpractice field, as you observed the contest from the side of the hill. I don't know the reason we couldn't use the stadium, could have been cost, more than likely the A.D. Vic, I can't remember the kids name, he was in The Hurcs snare line a few years prior to this show. He was involveds with running it. I'm not sure if he was the band director or an instructor there at the time. Stay well, hope to see some of you at a show this year. I'll be with The Hurcs. Also you can look me up at D.C.A. I&E, I believe I'll be working the SOPRANO/trumpet room, and, of course, I'll be at the Mini-Corps venue again. That is if I stay on the good side of Mr. Pronti!! "CAKES"
  17. Pepe did the reverse of what an earlier post said about mello players using adapters and a french horn mouthpiece.Pepe had an adapter in his french horn that took a sop mouthpiece. I believe he used either a Parduba(sp.?) 5-star or a Giardanelli(sp.?)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! In S.K.E.K., at one point, I believe the whole hornline used Rudi Mucks, and they were never too shabby!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 18. Know don't be making any snide remarks about my friend "RATZY" (John Ratzenberg to you}. I do believe he peruses these pages now and then, and you don't want to get him ###### at you, he might have your mail dissappear!!!!!!!!!!!! Although, that could be a good thing depending onwhat type of mail you get. JOHN "CUPCAKES" CURRAN "A LEGEND IN MY OWN MIND" (and the minds of countless others)
  19. Before anyone starts any crazy rumor!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The BOLT bus IS NOT owned nor operated by The Ct. Hurricanes. It is a division of Greyhound, which is owned by First Student, you know, the school bus company. They operate in a limited market area, express service. Boston to New York, New York to D.C. for a couple. They advertise one way for as little as a dollar! I don't know if that means the driver throws a rope out his window and you hang on and get dragged to your destination or not, but it seems it would be worth checking into. JOHN "CUPCAKES" CURRAN "A LEGEND IN MY OWN MIND" (and the minds of countless others)
  20. I do beleive the person playing those drums in the picture, Mr. Tony Smith, will be present at Mission Drums as a judge!!!!!!!!!!!!!! JOHN "CUPCAKES" CURRAN "A LEGEND IN MY OWN MIND" (and the minds of countless others)
  21. Hi Dick, "CAKES" here. Hope you have a great time down South. Give Vic a hug for me!!!!! Maybe you can bring a stack of applications with you for I&E and shake up a ton of early entries. Talk about a party atmosphere!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If I don't see you before, I'll definately see you in RaChaCha. Oh, and thanks for the concern in your other post. So far, all is well' JOHN "CUPCAKES" CURRAN "A LEGEND IN MY OWN MIND" (and the minds of countless others)
