  1. Here is a show I am looking forward to seeing. HEY MIKE- Going to vista ridge? I'll be there with my opinions, lol.
  2. It's not the actual size of the city, it's the population and traffic congestion that is the problem.
  3. Haha, July heat? No freakin way. I think half the appeal of the Alamodome is the AC. The other half is that all the world class corps show up. (perhaps due to the AC?) If you had a major DCI regional in Austin anywhere near the Alamodome size it would shut the city down. I mean, traffic stops in Austin on i-35 for no reason at all. None. I couldn't imagine it happening without a TON of fuss. I would make the trip to Reliant in Houston before considering going to a DCI show for hours and hours in the heat (and I live 25 minutes from Austin). (I also would love to NEVER step foot inside the UT football stadium, my dad might disown me)
  4. So wgi's fan network subscription expires tomorrow on the 15th according to the site, does that mean I can finally spend the money to get a fulls years worth after tomorrow? I can't believe they don't do a year from the time you register. It doesn't seem good for business.
  5. To me Hallelujah has been way over done and I am frankly a little shocked anyone in IW would choose it. Different version or not.
  6. I know both Andy and his wife Ashley who I both went to high school with and they are two of the nicest people I've ever met. I was happy to run into them at a show in 2006 in the lot. I can't even explain how many times Andy would make me laugh as he helped with the high school winter guard. A nice guy, a hard worker, and amazing soldier. It's been a while since the accident and with the daily updates we have been receiving from Ashley he is doing better but with a long road ahead. (Don't ask me for any information either as I will not tell)
  7. 2004 BD which I watched recently. The hornline is outrageous, the screamers are phenomenal and the guard is hot. The drumline is of course great. The pacing of the show is top notch and the hearing the concept of a train in the music is fantastic.
  8. I don't know if I could do ten off hand but 98 Cadets really finished that show well, that would be my number 1.
  9. Just world class? How about open? No love for open?
  10. It's still fun. Still good shows since the 2000. How can you say there doesn't seem like much fun? Light Brigade? Braddock? Still a lot of fun out there.
  11. Voted Cadets 2005. A season no one thought they would have. Great imagination, great performance. A good guard, perhaps not as good as other championship guards like BD03, but the demand for them was off the charts.
  12. Voted Bd 2004. Smokin hornline, entertaining show, amazing guard. Well performed, well thought out.
  13. I don't want to see scattered people tossing at different times in a drill, it's messy and over done already (I won't name names, but some guards we know are going to do it no matter what). I want to see a smaller guard kick butt. When a smaller guard makes finals it makes me smile because you know they worked super hard to beat out groups with larger numbers (I think we can agree, the bigger the guard the kinder the judging).
  14. I would love this. We've discussed how this can back fire but I don't care. I want to see this done!
  15. Let's hear it! What would you like to see done this year that was perhaps lacking in previous years? Better quality work? Dance? Happy shows? You get the idea. I would like to see dance improve drastically again just like in previous years. I would also die to see a truly world class flag book that is demanding and well achieved in all the guards, and not just at the end of the show with a flag feature but throughout the show with a flag line.
  16. The only advice I've ever gotten on how to toss in poor light is "count your rotations". Someone asked one day during all days "What about the wind?" Instructor says "The wind cant count for you" D'OH!
  17. SHHHH! You're giving away our secrets! You must be living in the wrong part of town. Or is that the right part of town?
  18. This sends the wrong message. Your shoulders/muscles are designed drape around the front of the body. All of the muscles from the shoulders and back wrap around to the front of the body. You have to maintain the extremes of complete relaxation where the shoulders roll forward and pulling them all the way back to where the chest pops out. Once you establish each extreme in your body have to find the balance. The way you put that statement implies he/she should always be at a posture that is just not natural and that is when lasting damage can come into play. 1) Learn to breathe. 2) Learn how to depress the scapula without jutting the chest out. 3) Make sure there is a hierarchy of stability starting with the feet/knees/hips/shoulders/neck/head. When checking in with the body in relation to the shoulders don't forget that everything is connected from the back to the front and a lot of what we consider the back actually deals with the shoulders. Pay attention to what the body is saying.
  19. How many of these apply to you so far? How to know you're from Houston. (I purposely left off number one) 2. Forget the traffic rules you learned elsewhere. Houston has its own version of traffic rules...Hold on and pray. There is no such thing as a dangerous high-speed chase in Houston. We all drive like that. 3. All directions start with, "Go down to Loop 610".... which has no beginning and no end. 4. The Chamber of Commerce calls getting through traffic... a "Scenic Drive." 5. The morning rush hour is from 6:00AM to 10:00AM. The evening rush hour is from 3:00PM to 7:00PM. Friday's rush hour starts Thursday morning. 6. If you actually stop at a yellow light, you will be rear-ended, cussed out and possibly shot. When you are the first one off the starting line, count to five when the light turns green before going, to avoid getting into any cross-traffic's way. *You can ask my sister about getting plowed down by a person who strongly believes in this one! 7. Kuykendahl Road can ONLY be pronounced by a native Houstonian. 8. Construction on I-10, I-45, US 59 and Loop 610 is a way of life and a permanent form of entertainment. 9. All unexplained smells are explained by the phrase, "Oh, we must be in Pasadena!!!." 10. If someone actually has their turn signal on, it is probably a factory defect. 11. All old ladies with blue hair in a pink Cadillac have total right-of-way. 12. The minimum acceptable speed on Loop 610 is 85 mph. Anything less is considered downright sissy. 13. The wrought iron on windows in east Houston is NOT ornamental. 14. Never stare at the driver of the car with the bumper sticker that says, "Keep honking, I'm reloading." In fact, don't honk at anyone. *THIS IS NOT A JOKE EITHER* 15. If you are in the left lane, and only going 70 mph in a 60 mph zone, people are not waving when they go by. 16. The Sam Houston Toll road is our daily version of NASCAR. 17. If it's 100 degrees, Thanksgiving must be next weekend. 18. When in doubt, remember that all unmarked exits lead to Louisiana. 19. You don't have to wait for an exit to get off a freeway, just follow the ruts in the grass to the frontage road like everyone else. This is how Houston residents notify Texas Department of Transportation where exits should have been built. (read less)
  20. Any way you slice it the traffic isn't going to be pretty. Friday rush hour in Houston starts Wednesday afternoon. PS go rockets.
