  1. When a corps used the same set of horns for too long and then tried to sell it, that mismatched, worn-out hornline had little resell value towards buying new ones. Now that they're selling like-new horns they can make enough (I assume)to cover the cost of the new ones. I remember the Bluecoats used the same contras from about 1993-2002 and the same uniform jackets for a similar span. Is anybody doing a similar thing with uniforms, selling them off regularly to keep their members is new ones?
  2. He never went anywhere, he's always been behind the scenes, taking care of the business side of things. He has a staff bio on the Bluecoats website. Apparently an annual party at his house became the norm immediately AFTER I aged out.
  3. I think there is a way around this, like the corps director can release the member from the agreement if the situation warrants it. The problem there is that all the kids that want to quit but not lose their tour fees will fake an injury. Or cite a real injury that plenty of us marched with.
  4. You just made my night. I live just outside of Jackson MS and I got a stadium to recommend. Except the weather looks a little worse than that. And so does the field.
  5. I was very sad to hear about Jessica. I marched with your daughters. I didn't get to know them very well but I do remember being fond of both of them. I do have a couple of things to offer- I have the 2000 yearbook cd. A traditional yearbook was prepared that year but was sent out as a .pdf on a cd due to problems getting it printed. It's filled with black and white pictures of the corps, sections, members, and candids. It also has all the scores and other stuff from that season. The whole thing is 11MB in size, so I might be able to send it as an email attachment. I can send it immediately if you don't have it. I also have the 2000 video yearbook on VHS. As I remember it, it's several montages of candid, practice, and performance pictures followed by the hi-cam version of the finals performance. However I haven't watched it in a few years and don't know what shape it's in. Unless someone speaks up and says they know of a version of it already on DVD, I'll take mine out and work on burning it myself. Let me know if either of these are needed - I'll keep an eye on the thread.
  6. So have they written one for Bob Barker yet? That would save me the time of making a fake one every summer.
  7. Aw, someone beat me? Well - DCP is Jericho
  8. Nice work. Keep it up and they'll upgrade you to Golden King.
  9. I loved wearing the Bluecoats jacket with the mini cape that continued off the sash. I don't think it would look right with the uniforms they got last year, but I miss it.
  10. If there was a minimum score and the corps got exactly that score I think that would be much more embarassing. Maybe they should be doing exhibition.
  11. To add to the 93 hype - There's some talk about Veterans Memorial Stadium being torn down. The state's three big schools haven't used it in years and Jackson State is talking about building a smaller stadium of their own. And the land it's on does have some value. This won't happen for years, but it's a possibility. For people interested in the BlueBQ, do we have to act like adults and get hotel rooms or will there be a classroom floor available?
  12. Finals week will see two surprise additons to the show: first, the return of that half cape thing that used to come off the end of the sash, which is worth about .75. Second, Larry Hershman will be somewhere on stadium grounds. That’s worth a full point. And thus they win DCI.
  13. Actually, it rarely holds a third that many, it just has the potential to hold 60,492.
  14. It has already been said that folding wouldn’t have happened, but it definitely would have changed the course of events. Bluecoats had a very hard time recruiting in 2000; recruiting after a second year out of finals would have been really rough. Two tenths is the difference between them being in this thread or being stuck in semis. Another reason for the rise has been tons of talent coming from Texas auditions. And Bingo has meant more money, meaning Dave Glasgow as a full-time director and steadily improving staff and equipment. Hopefully those are reasons the success will continue.
  15. I've been checking DCI's website repeatedly trying to find out who was going first. Not because I'm worried about which spot is more advantageous, but because this should mean that the Bluecoats will be next to the Blue Devils at retreat. I always looked forward to that rare occurance; I hope our contras have plenty of candy.
  16. Dave Glasgow made the same switch to try out for the Bluecoats years back. He made it, was my drum major for two years, and is now corps director. Mississippi is a drum corps no man's land so I had to drive 10 hours to audtion - in Texas! The Bluecoats have full weekend audition/rehearsal camps every other month in Cedar Park (north of Austin). The biggest advice of all is to do it - go and audition somewhere, this year. Ninety perecent of people cut themselves because they never show up. Just go out there and do it, even if you don't think you're ready, or if you're not sure you want do it this summer, or if it its not that top four corps you drool over. Go, do it. And good luck.
